Summary: Leave all logic at the door, then read this sequel!
Review: You would think that Harris would have read his previous book to know about the characters for the sequel. I can't give away the ending, only to say: "Give me a break!" In no conceivable way do any of these characters act this way in real life. And the protagonist, she's as nutty as the cannibal. There was not one believeable character in the whole book. Harris didn't have it for long, and he lost it quickly.

Summary: This book was such a disappointment.
Review: After waiting so many years for the sequel to The Silence of the Lambs, I was greatly disappointed when I read this book. I found it mundane and boring. I was hoping for a more in-depth study of the characters of Clarice Starling and Hannibal Lechter and the things that made them such wonderful opponents. I was highly surprised to discover the fact that Harris just wanted to get rid of them. If he writes another book, I'll wait for the paperback or check it out from the library. The promise Harris showed in Red Dragon and Silence certainly isn't reflected in this book.

Summary: A Well Crafted Tale
Review: I very much enjoyed this book. It was beautifully writen, with an engaging plot. Yes some parts of it are voilent but no more so than the previous two tales featuring Dr. Lechter. What is exceptional about this book is the variety of styles Harris makes use of. This book includes gothic, midevil, and trancesdental styles. By the end of the book I could not put it down. The reason I gave this book only four stars is I did find some inconsinetes regarding Dr. Lechter's charcter. In this book he commits murders he never would have commited in the previous book and he does so without explination. But on the whole it is well worth the read.

Summary: The suckiest suck that ever sucked!
Review: I guess some authors only have one really, really good book in them. In Harris case it was The Red Dragon. Although I did enjoy The Silence of the Lambs, it wasn't as nearly as good as The Red Dragon, but still a good read. Then along comes Hannibal, and it turns out to be the worst piece of drivel I have ever had the misfortune to read!

Summary: Lecter, Hannibal Lecter
Review: What starts out as an exciting hunt for a serial killer on the loose ultimately degenerates to James Bond fantasy. Lecter goes from being a really, really ugly human to something akin to SuperHero. Of course, he never runs out of money, or out of luck. He is stronger than almost everyone he meets. He kills people cleanly and neatly in the middle of a crowded street. Why not strap him to a metal plate that is being cut in half by a laser? You know he'll get out of that one. No, no, no! Strap him to a big log that's being cut at a lumber mill. Wait a minute, how about having him blast off into space to hook up with his evil genetics experiments... Obviously, Thomas Harris enjoys doing his research in Buenos Aires and Florence more than rural Ohio and Louisiana. What the heck, who says a serial killer can't be chic?

Summary: Not worth the money or time
Review: As a fan of Thomas Harris's books, I was anxious to read "Hannibal." However, I was extremely disappointed with the plot and the ending was nothing short of unbelievable. So many things were wrong with this story that I cannot go into them. The dinner scene near the end was just gross. I kept waiting for the scary parts, but it was just babble. The characters were over-engineered and their motives didn't ring true. Too bad. Red Dragon and Silence of the Lambs are among some of my favorite fun time reading.

Review: The story is unbelievable, the characters predictable and the ending a terrible disappointment. If it were possible to rate this book with a minus then I would give it a minus 10 stars. Buyer beware! If you must read it wait until your local library has it in the 'FOR SALE: $1.00' bin.

Summary: Not What I Expected.
Review: I'm not going to blame Harris for my own expectations about what this sequel should be. After digesting this novel for almost a week, and with only slight cramps lingering, I now realize that this book was wonderful. I was really scared. It was creepy, surreal, a slow motion nightmare. I've had more than one bad dream about it. That's my criteria for a good horror novel. So calm down, get over it. Harris gave us better than we deserved - some originality. Glad I read it. It'll make a great movie.

Summary: Interesting but disappointing.
Review: After reading the first 100 pages, it dawned on me that this book is like reading a movie script. Thomas Harris knew before he wrote the book that it was going to be made into a movie, so why would he want to rewrite the book into a script?? I was lost in the Florence section, but thought it was an important piece. Silence of the Lambs was a much better story. I was extremely disappointed with the ending. This is one time where I hope the movie is better than the book!
