Rating: Summary: Complete drivel and an insult to the Australian aboriginals Review: This book which purports to be "true" and only published as fiction to "protect the identities of the Real People" is total hogwash.Full of New Age psychobabble, borrowing myths from all over the world and mainly the North American continent -- this woman would have us believe that her account of going "walkabout" with a bunch of Australian aborigines is true. It is not. It has been resoundly denounced by every Aborigine nation in Australia. Yet it continues to sell to the gullible. This book belongs in the same category as the Celestine Prophecy and the Conversations with God series -- interesting fantasies which should not be taken too seriously.
Rating: Summary: Important Reading Review: I found the message in this book as important as any message in the Bible. Easy and Fun to read. This is pure truth.
Rating: Summary: A great message Review: It was slow going in the beginning and a bit far-fetched but once I got past and LISTENED to the message I was fascinated. Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: Book Club Money Maker Review: Having been a member of four different book clubs in three different states in the last twelve years, I found that while I was reading about Marlo's journey down under, I was also thinking about how it would be critiqued by my reading companions. Should I serve red or white wine? As an English and writing teacher, I had a difficult time accepting her writing style as anything but an honest attempt at a new craft. The story line seemed a bit far fetched yet I am a believer in letting people have their say. I wanted to believe that this woman had an experience that would enlighten us as individuals and then collectively as the world's society. For Marlo to claim it to be fiction for the sake of the Aborigines was thoughtful, I guess. But in the Acknowlgements in the front of the book, she never mentions her gratitude to these native people. Don't you think she could have at least mentioned them on this page? I believe reading is essential to human growth and people have to learn to appreciate literature for what it is worth to them on a personal and individual basis. I teach kids that people write because they think they have something valuable to share with the world. Marlo had a message so she wrote a book. Good for her. Is her message new? I don't think so. Is it worth discussing? You bet. What I liked best about the book is the fact that people react to it. I think that there are many people in this world that do care about the quality of life. Read the reviews. There are 37 pages of reactions from good people who don't have to go to Australia to experience "being." I am glad that Marlo finally got the message from down under. Now what do you think she will do with all the money that goes with it? I guess we'll have to watch Oprah to find out.
Rating: Summary: New vision of life Review: I suggest that read this book this weekend and start your life on monday with new person . I am sure that you will find a message for you which helps you to feel good in this book...
Rating: Summary: Negative Star! Review: I just cannot read on anymore! This woman writes as well as a high school student trying to finagle an A out of her Supposed Writing class. I spent years trying not to produce writings like that and here it is, an entire 187 pages of it... My problem is now facing the person who gave me this book; she is expecting some kind of praise from me. The author not actually being a high school student makes it an extremely difficult task.
Rating: Summary: Just stick to the facts Review: Marlo received the "Bent Spoon Award" from the Australian Skeptics assoc. in 1996 for this book.
Rating: Summary: Great Read Review: Although her writing style leaves much to be desired, the message is phenomenal! I think that this book should be on people's "Must Read"list for the new millenium. Great for those seeking to deepen your spiritual understanding of your oneness with the Universe
Rating: Summary: Mutant author down under Review: Why would anyone follow the advice of a tribe who selects Marlo Morgan as its messenger? This book could have been authored by a 10 year old with a slightly decent imagination. It is an insult to the intelligence of the reader and a disgrace to the publishing world. If Marlo truly practices what she preaches, I sincerely hope she is donating all proceeds from the sale of this book to an environmental organization or other worthy cause. I'm tired of all the preaching, I want to see some action.
Rating: Summary: Please give this book a chance Review: I'm glad to see that most of the reviews are in favor of this book. Maybe it means that we "mutants" still have some hope in improving our environment and saving our future. I am always depressed with the way this world operates, and dream about a living style portrated in this book. I don't know if this book is fact or fiction, but I do hope that it's a true story, for knowing that there is a group of people on earth who can really lead a life so simple, honest and fulfilling gives me the courage to pursue a similar life of my own. I don't quite understand why some people think this book is an exploitation of aboriginals. I could only wish that I were a member of this tribe. I would be very proud of it! I think being called "mutant" hurts some people's self-esteem, but if we don't face our true selves, things will never get better. I think these people are part of the challenges facing us, and I appreciate them for giving me this opportunity to test myself. No matter if the story is true or fabricated, I think what really matters is if the information delivered helps. And it does! I hope that everyone can have a chance to read this book, and, try to live out the messages for a while before making judgment.
