Rating: Summary: Not Cussler's best effort, Review: That about sums it up. Try one of his other books if you haven't met Dirk Pitt yet as this one might lose you. If you enjoy action, I recommend Bob Mayer's special forces series. Mayer is a former green beret who has written six books about special operations that are fast paced, accurate, and fun reads. Check them out!
Rating: Summary: Great Review: Another great Dirk Pitt adventure, comparable to VIXON O3 (my favorite Cussler book) and to great thrillers by other authors, such as THE SHAPE by Craig Furnas and THE BOYS FROM BRAZIL by Ira Levin. FLOODTIDE is an up-late-at-night-even-though-you have-to-get-up-early page-turner.
Rating: Summary: Clive needs to improve Review: I was dissapointed by this book. It was anyway something I expected after "Shockwave". Dirk Pitt has grown old, he isn't the young gun as in "Raise the Titanic" anymore, he gets more and more settled down, which in way is not surprising due to his shoot-outs, fights and silly adventures with several women. I must say that Dirk and his friend Al are still very capable of controlling the reader, but it looks as a computer has written the plot, only the input like "Who are the bad boys? & "Name of the evil:" and so on have been fed in by Cussler. R Dahl wrote a story like this, where the computer controlls the output and the storyline. However I believe that Dirk will not end like John Patrick Ryan, ergo as Peresident of the US of A. Clive let Dirk die or retire in your next book, please! By the way if Cussler is Pitt and Dirk is Clive, than Dirk should get a brain tumor or prostata cancer in his next adventure! Nevertheless, don't miss "Night Probe" and "The Treasure" by Clive Cussler. These are really good books.
Rating: Summary: Dirk Pitts gets stupider but more exciting. Review: In my opinion, this was a well written book and contained the best action scenes in a Cussler book so far. I was upset, however, with the simplicity of the plot. I figured out what was going on before Dirk Pitt did and that sort of ruined the story a little for me. Any Cussler fans will still be delighted to read it.
Rating: Summary: Another good Dirk Pitt story...................... Thanks Review: Like others have mentioned, I had to get out the maps to see if Clive had it right. Of course he did. Whether it's the desert or the ocean, your research is amazing. Thank you for a great series. I can't wait for the next one.
Rating: Summary: This book was so exciting I couldn't put it down! Review: I bought 6 books at the same time and I would have to say this one was the most exciting of them all. I love a good mystery and this book measures up in all respects.
Rating: Summary: Politacally Incorrect Review: I believe that the premise of this book is an intriguing one, but I believe it portrays the Chinese in a terrible way. I believe that this is one of Cussler's better efforts, but not as good as Inca Gold or Sahara which I enjoyed a great deal. Cussler doesn't pull any punches in this book. The Chinese characters seem to be cookie cutter stereotypes. I believe Cussler could have made a greater effort in making his villian in this story a greater counterpart to Dirk Pitt.
Rating: Summary: Action from the start that is fun and entertaining Review: Cussler starts with action and keeps it going. The characters are real, believable, and fun. The intrigue of China's intentional export of people to the US and the details of such a massive plan come to life as the heroes thwart a clever (albeit unlikely) scheme to increase Chinese leverage over the US in the economic wars. Difficult to put down.
Rating: Summary: A Dose-o-Dirk'ell do ya. Satisfying, but not Cussler's best. Review: Its been almost a year since I've read "Flood Tide." Although I enjoyed it, it was certainly not Cussler's best. I agree with someone elses comments that it "lacked a sence of adventure" as found in the other Cussler novels, yet it still satisfied my craving for an undersea (underlake) thriller.
Rating: Summary: Been There? Done That? Read the book! Review: I have been a loyal Clive Cussler fan since about 1979, when I read VIXEN 03 (for the FIRST time). After that, I have found myself waiting in line at the bookstore on the release date of his new novels. I usually buy two copies so I can have one and loan the other to all of my friends I have gotten hooked on Dirk and the gang. Some of the reviews I have read indicate that Cussler's stories are not a good as they used to be. This may be true, but let's face it folks, how many more are left? As for me, if Mr. Cussler publishes Dirk Pitt's favorite RECIPES, I will be in line at the bookstore to buy it! Thanks Clive!
