Rating: Summary: The first brick in the Yellow Brick Road Review: This book ended my life, and began a knew one. We are all messiahs, all are holding on so hard to the bottom of the river. We are afraid to let go and flow into the current of our own divinity. Jah guide Jah provide!
Rating: Summary: Start your spiritual journey here! Review: I did, over twenty years ago. I've bought every used copy of this book I've come across; I've given them away to dozens of friends -- especially in their times of greatest need. Whenever my life is dark I go back to this simple story, and it never fails to lift me up and send me back along my spiritual path. I've recounted the "story within the story", of the little creatures, over and over to help people find their way and its never failed to help. I've heard one negative review of this book in twenty years. It was from a cousin who warned my mom against reading this book, saying it was about suicide. Boy! Was she wrong! Bach's trilogy of Jonathan Livingston Seagull, There's No Such Place as Far Away, and this wonderful book have been guiding lights. I never tire of reading them. And when you're done, pass them on. We need all the help we can get in our world. (Then read Ishmael by Daniel Quinn for the next step)
Rating: Summary: That's life all about Review: These book is one of the best. It's all that many of us need to understand what is life all about. I love Richard's work, doesn't matter which book I read. peace and love Veronika
Rating: Summary: Its an insight into ur life Review: Man.. any time u are faced with a problem in life, just pick up this book and bingo! the answer is there. The simplicity of the book stares u in the face and u have no option but to acknowledge it. I picked up this book in my turbulent teenage years and it did show me the way. And i have been a fan ever since. Bach's understanding and his presentation style are unmatched. Simple, direct and sweet .Period.
Rating: Summary: A fabulous book - both litmus test and life-path primer Review: I have owned, read and re-read this book a hundred times. It is my 'second Bible' and something of an improvement on the first, in my view. I have given away so many copies I should get a commission from the author. And the way people respond to the book is an unfailing indicator of whether or not we can successfully be friends. If they react with denunciation I know they are still too fearful to depart from restrictive and dogmatic viewpoints, so I bless them and go my way. Short, pleasant, easy to read, and deceptively simple. But powerful, revelationary truth usually is not complex or difficult to comprehend. If you have been ruminating on how and why things work they way they do in this world, and how and why they could work better, prepare to be shown the way to a level of conscious living that will enrich every facet of your life. To an open soul who takes Jesus literally when he said, "All that I can do,and more, ye can do as well," this is intoxicating stuff. To someone not quite ready, it's a very pleasant and nicely told story. Either way, it's a winner worth the read!
Rating: Summary: A Great Start to One's Spiritual Journey Review: Illusions is more than just a beautiful story. It is a wonderful beginning to one's own spiritual journey. Universal Truths are elgantly woven into the practical, everyday life of the main character Richard. Richard is Everyman--he very well could be you or me. His experiences and enlightenments will inspire the reader to dig deeper into his or her own spiritual existence. Illusions should not just be read once, but time and time again.
Rating: Summary: Bach Does it Again! Review: Yet again, a masterpiece by Mr. Richard Bach. I loved this book as I loved so many others by him. It's a rather quick read, but it's worth it.
Rating: Summary: Too Other-Worldly for Me Review: I have made it something of a hobby to read books of this kind. While I liked the book, it was too mystical and other-worldly for my taste. I liked the books by Regan (The Evolution of a Warrior) and Millman (The Way of the Peaceful Warrior) better. Why? They are both more practical and based on true stories.
Rating: Summary: Response to those who dislike it Review: I have always expected that the responses to this book (and other "heretical" works) would be either very positive or negative. The title itself encourages more than a raised eyebrow or two from those linking the word "Messiah" with Absolute Truth or Divinely Inspired Religion or God. I've always learned a lot by asking an introductory question of people who wish to pull me into a conversation about ultimate reality. "Wait just a moment, if you please," I'll say. "Do you conceive of your religion as something that humankind is doing; or, something God is doing?" The answer to that question defines at the outset for me almost exactly how the conversation is going to go. So, too, would such an answer predict that same reader's reaction to R. Bach. At least partly the point made in the Messiah's handbook, as I recall . . .
Rating: Summary: What a load of crap Review: Sorry to disagree with my fellow non-messiahs out there, but this book is not worth the little time it takes to read. Yes, it's in interesting look at the complications of the human soul and psyche. It's also wrong. If you're a pantheist, or at least a universalist, you might find confirmation of your beliefs here, but for the rest of us, it's New Age tripe that borders very precariously on the blatantly heretical.
