Summary: Better than what most people think.
Review: It's too bad that there aren't many who can appreciate such a wonderful classical novel because they aren't smart enough to understand the language, or rather, unwilling to do so. Nevertheless, Ivanhoe is a beautifully written book, and I completely recommmend it. I just don't think you'd want to read it if you prefer simple language. A must-read for intelligent readers.

Summary: This book is pointless!!!
Review: If your looking for an exciting spine tingling medevil story, this is the book to read. However, is you need to wright a fairly in depth report, steer clear of this novel. Though it is a fun story, there is no symbolism, or any literal elements involved with this book.

Summary: Don't get it
Review: This book has got to be the most boring filled book in the world. The descriptions of a persons clothing take many pages. You soon loose interest after the first chapter. DONT GET THIS BOOK!!!

Summary: if you like medieval, youll love this
Review: first of all, for the people who dont like the book because they cant understand it, its too bad because this is the best classic novel ive ever read. once you get past the tough to understand language, its a great book. the best part about it is that it combines real factual people with some fictional things that make an incredibly interesting book to read. but thats just my opinion.

Summary: Not the greatest.
Review: I read this book last year in 9th grade and i thought it was the lamest book I ever read.I bought the Cliff Notes and even through them I couldn't understand ANYTHING. The whole novel is in that ancient annoying language that virtually no one can, nor wants to understand. Believe me, if you prefer literature that your brain can actually compute, skip this one.

Summary: BOOOOORRRRRRRRING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Review: Forget the book. Rent the video. The book should be about 1/4 the length that it actually is. It's a Classic alright: a Classic Bore.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: The best of historical fiction. Period.
Review: I'm 13 years old, and I read this book in the seventh grade and LOVED IT!!!! Sir Walter Scott mixes legend (Locksley, or Robin Hood) as well as some of his own characters (Ivanhoe, Rowena, Rebecca, Bois Gilbert, and others). My favorite character is probably Wamba, the jester.

Summary: Narration is first rate!
Review: Belfast-born actor Ciaran Hinds (who also played the role of the Templar Knight Sir Brian in the 1997 A&E network production of "Ivanhoe") did an excellent job of reading and giving each character their own unique voice. This version is a very pleasurable book on tape.

Summary: Sometimes tedious classic
Review: Ivanhoe is written in the wordy, somtimes tedious writing style of the Georgian Age ( Dickens and Jane Austen are also guilty). The love triangle (if you can call it that) of Ivanhoe, Rebecca and the Norman nobleman is more unlikely than that of Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio in the movie Titanic. Yet, the story is interesting if one hangs with it in it's duller stretches. PS-Indicted ex-HUD secretary Henry Cisneros once bragged that he read Ivanhoe in one day when he was a boy, more proof that Mr. Cisneros has problems with the truth. Ivanhoe a one-day read-maybe a comic book version.

Summary: A great classic that has stood the test of time
Review: This is a truly excellent book, a masterpiece of English literature. Scott has a very clear way of expressing himself which I find very enjoyable. Although the historical details are not all perfectly correct (some minor anachronisms), this does not take anything away from the story. It's a nice old-fashionned romance with chivalrous knights and fair damsels... it's wonderful.
