Rating: Summary: "Lonesome Dove," What a great novel. Review: The novel Lonesome Dove is a great western novel and it tells alot about the western ways of life at that time. It shows from how they did cattle drives to the way most the women made their money. It also had great fictionated characters that made you feel that you were them and how they were feeling. Larry McMurtry was an extraordianary author that brought his readers to life, ecspecially in this book. You were always knowing what was going on,but were on the edge of your seat trying to figure out what was going to happen next. Such as when Gus left and headed out to find Loreana that had been stolen from Blue Duck. There are little parts in the book that make it just more interesting and enertaining, such as when the bear and the bull were fighting and that cowboys reaction to that. In all it was a fun and enertaing novel, probably the best I have ever read.
Rating: Summary: Lonsom Dove Review: The book was great and well written. It was definitly the longest book have ever read in my life but I thoroughly enjoyed it. The ending seemed a little week to me. But I guess that I will have to read the next book to get the understanding why you ended Lonsom Dove the way you did. All in All I enjoyed the book.
Rating: Summary: The Exciting Trail of Trial Review: After reading the book of Lonesome Dove I was shocked at how good Larry McMurtry had written it. The great adventure of Gus, Call, and the boys driving the cattle accross the spaciouse mid west was extrodinary. McMurtry was great at not just trying to get the point accross in others perspectives, but he thought further then that making you think of what you just read. I liked it when how at the start all are charactors are appart and unknown then he ties the charactors together and builds strong relationships in a short amount of time. He makes the different scenes come alive. He didn't just spend one page to describe the charactors, but he spent many making his charactors come to life. McMurtry has written a wonderful book which I insist that everyone should read. If your looking for adventure and excitement then I recomend it.
Rating: Summary: Lonesome Dove Review: I think that the author Larry McMurtry did an excellent job in writing this book and I think that it is one of my most favorite books I have ever read. The book starts out in Lonesome Dove Texas where a bunch of ranch men work. Then one of there partners comes back and tells them that there was awsome land in Montana. So the men go and steal a bunch of cattle and horses and drive them to Montana. Along the way they run into a lot of troubles from running out of water to people dieing and their are a lot of other excess things that happen on the side, but at the end of the book the men make to the Montana Territory and build a ranch to raise cattle and to spend the rest of their lives. This book is one that all people should read especially if you like Western Literature and I do encourage all to read it.
Rating: Summary: The Best Western Ever! This book is the only one I have ever read that I really felt like I knew the characters in it.As I read this book I gained a lot of respect for Call and Gus and even Newt. He was Call's boy and you could tell that the whole book.I really enjoyed this book and I will definately be reading another novel of Larry McMurtry's.I recommend this book to everybody.
Rating: Summary: Lonesome Dove Rocks Review: I began this book with the thought in mind that all Westerns fell into the typical Western genre. Lonesome Dove too, did fit these characteristics, however unlike any other western I have read, I was ultimatly intreged by the characters and events that took place. Within a few weeks of begining the book I was consumed by the plot line and couldn't wait till I could read at the end of the day.The fate of many of the characters left me empty inside and I felt as though with their death I had lost a true friend. Despite the fact that I mearly veiwed the fictional lives of the characters McMurtry was able to make me feel as though I was part of the book. I was very impressed not only by the story and its development, but by the discriptive way in which the author depicts the western frontier. I found the story itself unpredictable and intertaining. The only fault I could find was enjoyable. The end was perfect in the fact that it left me at a loss and desprate to read the other Lonesome Dove novels.
Rating: Summary: Lonesome Dove Review Review: If you like western based novels than you will love the book Lonesome Dove. It is action packed and you never get bored while you are reading it. The book is big but you just fly through it. You meet characters that you will come to love and some that you will hate. The book is great and I would highly recommend that you read it not once but many times in you life.
Rating: Summary: Lonesome Dove Review: The book Lonesome Dove was a very good book I enjoyed it alot. This portrayed the west as what it was and how it was wild. I like to read western books and this was by far the one I enjoyed the most. Larry Mcmurtry did a great job describing the west and bringing the characters to life. My favorite character would probably be Augustus because he was an old funny cowboy who was a hardworker but he could also be caring. I have heard about how good of a book this is and now I agree. Augustus and Call were two characters that didn't care for lazy people, but that is typical of an old tough cowboy
