Summary: The discovery of a lifetime!
Review: In third grade, I discovered this book on Mrs. Stepp's dusty bookshelves. This was literally the first book I read cover to cover in one sitting. I still consider it his best work, and read it to my son every chance I get (even if he only is seven months old)

Summary: Very good book.
Review: This is about a family of cunning foxes who have trouble with 3 farmers, this book has surprises around every corner and one very special surprise at the end. It's one of those books that even when your 50 you'll still laugh at. I'd recommend this book to people of any age

Summary: The meaning of this book.
Review: Fantastic Mr. Fox is a wonderful book showing that animals can think, project, and act on their thoughts. In our world today we have begun to take animals for granted. We also are degrading animals. Dahl shows the characteristics and feelings of animals in this book. The tale begins with Mr. Fox, who steals foul to feed his wife and four kits, to survive. The book describes Mr. Fox's struggle against three farmers (Bogus,Bunce, and Bean). This struggle, to keep his family alive represents in the end, the struggle of whole undergroung kingdom. It is a heart felt story that teaches feelings through the animals. Only Roald Dahl would be able to create such a touching masterpiece and avoid the potential campiness of anthropomorphic representation

Summary: If you like a little excitement, this is your kind of book.
Review: I'd recommend this book to kids between 6 and 10. Probably the best character in this book is Fantastic Mr. Fox. By Charles, age 9, a Roald Dahl fan

Summary: Some of Dahl's most miserablest characters
Review: Roald Dahl has a wickedly cruel streak running from his brain to his pen finger - and that's one of his better qualities.

This is a short but brilliantly entertaining story about a thieving varmint who outfoxes three unlikable farmers. There's not one good role model in this book, so don't bother looking for one.

Three rich, unpleasant farmers with the cool names of Boggis, Bunce and Bean conspire to catch the miserable critter that has been raiding their store rooms, and bring out every weapon in their arsenal to do so. After escaping eradication by the skin of his heinie, the said critter goes deep undercover, where his family nearly dies of starvation.

Because of his actions, the other burrowing creatures in the neighborhood are also facing starvation, so Mr. Fox takes action the only way he knows how. Enlisting child labor and encouraging other animals to incriminate themselves, he digs his way out of trouble, and then starts an underground cult, with himself as the supreme ruler, while the enemy waits patiently at the gates.

It's a fun story, but not exactly morally uplifting - your kids will love it!

Summary: fantastic
Review: In Roald Dahl's chapter book, Fantastic Mr. Fox, he tells a traditional story in which Fantastic Mr. Fox outsmarts three halfwit farmers. Like most foxes, Fantastic Mr. Fox is sharp and cunning. He lives near three farms that belong to very unpleasant farmers. The farmers are described as having nasty personalities, horrible eating habits, and disgusting features. Each night, Mr. Fox steals food from the farmers to feed his own family. The farmers are furious and band together to find Mr. Fox and 'string him up by his tail.' They find his hole and wait for him to come out so they can shoot him.
When Mr. Fox refuses to surrender, the angry men try to dig him out with shovels and then with farm equipment and bulldozers. Eventually, they take all the workers from their farms and scatter them over the hill in order to stand guard so that the foxes cannot escape. As the farmers wait, the Fox family is slowly starving. Mr. Fox gets a brilliant idea and soon he and all of the underground animals find a way to pull the biggest trick of all on the three nasty farmers. They get food for their families off of the farmers' own ignorance and the farmers continue to miserably wait for Mr. Fox to emerge from his hole.
This book is a classic example of Dahl's writing style. The adults are always mean and rotten, while the children and animals are smart and good. This book raises a number of questions that could make for a very interesting discussion. Mr. Fox feeds his family by stealing food from the farmers. Does that makes stealing ok just because the men he stole from were mean? The Badger brings up this important issue and Mr. Fox sweet talks himself out of trouble, but should stealing ever be considered ok?
This book has a good plot and inspires creativity and problem solving skills. The characters have strong personalities and are involved in hopeless yet humorous predicaments. Kids will laugh at the farmers' misfortunes, enjoy the unusual underground setting and cheer on Mr. Fox and his fantastic schemes. I love the way Roald Dahl gives his characters such unusual qualities. This book was an entertaining and enjoyable read.

Summary: If you have a child who hates to read... give him/her this!
Review: Fantastic Mr. Fox is a slim book; it certainly is not as long as "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory", "The BFG", or other Roald Dahl classics. If you have a young reader who hates to read or has a hard time reading, "Fantastic Mr. Fox" is an excellent choice. It's got great characters to root for, a fun plot and premise, and reads pretty quickly. I gave this to a young friend of mine who dreads reading, and he stayed up all night to finish it!
