Summary: Much Needed
Review: Especially if this is your first pregnancy, this book is exactly what you'll need for the third trimester. It's lively, funny, and usually RIGHT ON the money. With a glut of books out there about what to do, what not to do, what to eat, what to think, what to breathe ... this is truly a much needed break from that. And puts things back into a sense or reality, into perspctive, again.

Summary: It's called the "Girlfriends Guide" for a reason...
Review: I don't care what the other reviewers had to say but the basis of this book was not to talk about medical terminology, infertility, or breastfeeding. It is meant to give a "Girlfriends" perspective on what it is like being pregnant.
I loved every page of this book and can't wait to pass it on!!

Summary: Enjoyable and informative
Review: My doctor recommended this book to me after saying that she read it herself and enjoyed it, often finding herself laughing at many of the parts she identified with. In contrast to what many other readers thought, I felt that this book was honest about the changes your body is about to go through over the next nine months. Although she does at times give bad advice(ie it's okay to drink alcohol to take the edge off on occasion and not exercise), the author does let you know ratherly candidly what your body will begin to both look and feel like. I didn't agree with some of her advice (such as drinking during pregnancy), but overall feel like the book was worthwhile and informitive. It gives you information that other medical books won't, but this also works it reverse. It would definately be a good idea to get yourself a medical book as well.

Summary: Sorority Sisters in LA LA LAND, don't bother!
Review: I found this book to be an annoying self-absorbed guide to the author's "4 pregnancies in 6 years"! She brags about it like this happens to everyone and has no sensitivity for those of us who have stuggled with infertility. It took me 5 years, miscarriages, and a plethora of invasive treatments to get pregnant, and now I'm reading this immature [stuff]? The author doesn't even mention one word about the struggle many of us have (that I could find in the book) getting pregnant, or what to do/say to that "Girlfriend" who can't get pregnant or finally got pregnant after years and is a nervous wreck, it's just a bunch of sorority sisters in La La land.

In the chapter "Sharing the wonderful news" the author talks about how she and a friend were pregnant at the same time and at dinner, Iovine blabs on and on about her big news and the other woman keeps her own pregnancy a secret for a fear of miscarriage. Her response later after she learns they were both pregnant is "It pays to advertise". Well, it's just obvious Iovine is an egocentric blabbermouth and has no clue. Bottonline: Leave this ... at the bookstore!

Summary: I don't know what the other reviewers are thinking....
Review: This is the one and the only pregnancy book that I find truly comforting. You can get good medical advise from a doctor, but you just cannot get the excellent "girlfriend" advise found in Iovine's book. When you are pregnant, you are overwhelmed by anxieties, worries, and silly comments and advises from other people. The important thing is to keep a good perspective that the only thing that matters is YOU -- which, of course, would physically include your baby. I don't know what the other reviewers are thinking, but I HIGHLY recommend this book. Besides, it's hilarious.

Summary: Funny, but doesn't suit my lifestyle!
Review: I received this book as a baby shower gift from an also-pregnant friend who said it was the best pregnancy book she'd read. Now, not to diss my friend, but I just couldn't relate to Vicki and her Girlfriends -- I loved being pregnant, was lucky enough to find pretty good maternity clothes, always planned on a non-medicated birth (an option for which there is NO support in this book!!) and breastfeeding (for which the support is at best tentative), thought my body looked great up until the last 2 weeks when everything swelled up to twice its previous size, and didn't feel the world, or my husband, owed me anything for the effort of carrying my child. So I found it hard to take seriously Iovine's suggestion that my husband should feel obligated to buy me jewellery as a "reward" and was saddened by her admission that each of her four children was nursed for less time than the previous one. As I read this book, I felt the way I do when I am sick in bed and read magazines like Cosmo: sure, the stories are interesting, but they don't seem to take place in the same world that I live in!

If you are considering buying this book, or have been given a copy by someone else, you should be aware that most of the information it contains about childbirth and breastfeeding has some serious flaws, and you should get a second opinion.

Summary: book was never received
Review: I ordered this book on 3/3/03 but never recieved it. What I did get was an empty manilla envelope in the begining of April. The envelope wasn't even taped by the sender. I sent an email to the person who I bought it from and all I got back was "what was your book" and have heard nothing since.

Summary: Amusing, but get a good "medical" book as well
Review: I read this book in 2 hours one evening. It is amusing and candid, and offered some good advice, occassionally. But for the most part, it is the author's "sassy" views. One should take it as a comedic memoir, rather than ANY medical advice book. In fact, her views on epidurals, breast-feeding, and weight gain are seriously misinformed. The fashion tips are appropriate for women who run in totally different circles than most women I know: always wear makeup at the hospital, continue to dye your hair during pregnancy, wax the bikini until the 2nd month (!!!), wear very high heels with short skirts to work. Read this book for laughs and giggles, but supplement with a more traditional guide.

Summary: Don't Bother
Review: Although this book is meant to be sarcastic and funny, I found it mindless and annoying. I felt like I was reading the memoirs of a sorority girl. I agree with another reviewer that the advice needs to be taken worth a grain of salt. One cannot eat what she wants, nor can she remain inactive, nor do most husbands react as hers did (disappointed and shocked) - of course she mentions that when her husband now looks at their child and becomes teary-eyed, she gleefully reminds him that "... this is the child you didn't want" and then she quickly runs away. I had always purchased this book for my girlfriends in the past upon their learning of their pregnancy...and now that I am pregnant and reading this book, I regret the fact that I spent so much money sending this to my girlfriends. I wish I would have done a bit more research and sent them The Pregnancy Journal - A Day to Day Guide For a Healthy and Happy Pregnancy by A. Christine Harris. It offers very useful information...not only do I enjoy it, but so does my husband.

Summary: Funny!
Review: This book gave a scared new Mom a humorous, yet realistic, look into pregnancy and mommihood!
