Summary: The Girlfriends' Guide to Pregnancy
Review: This book was different from other pregnancy books. In addition to the author's "tell it like it is" attitude, I spent most of my time laughing while reading it! Most other books were very technical, which was good too, but this book helped me relax and enjoy my first pregnancy.

Summary: Fabulous Fun Read
Review: Loved this book. It's a fun and refreshing balance to all the reference books you read when you're pregnant. I highly recommend it.

Summary: Something to make you laugh
Review: This book is a great way to lift your spirits if you're feeling worn down by the morning sickness and the fatigue of early pregnancy or you're just plain sick of being pregnant by late pregnancy. While there seem to be a lot of new pregnancy humor books that are trying to hone in on Vicki Iovine's turf (Pregnancy Sucks, Belly Laughs, Hello My Name is Mommy, and others), from what I've seen they aren't terribly funny, and in the case of Belly Laughs they are kind of crude. I say accept no substitutes and go for Girlfriend's Guide instead if you want a pregnancy humor book.

Summary: Not for a first time mom
Review: A friend of mine loaned me this book, and it looked at first like it would be funny. There were parts that made me chuckle, but most of the time I read it with awe, wondering if people really think this way. It really turned me off. I am in my 27th week of my first pregnancy, and this book made me feel worse about myself than most pregnant woman already do.

She even says that your husband that should turn to the Playboy channel until you get your figure back. I wasn't offended necessarily, but more ashamed that a fellow woman would say this during a time that is so sensitive for women to begin with.

The truth is, this is not written by a normal woman, it's written by a Playboy centerfold (which is probably why she's ok with her husband watching it) so she isn't concerned with the normal things that we all are. She doesn't have to exercise because she has personal trainers when her pregnancy is done. Normal women work until their delivery date, we have to watch what we eat, most of us have to exercise, and most of us hate looking at our growing bodies and if our husband's turned their attentions elsewhere, it would hurt.
I am not saying pregnancy is beautiful and all that stuff, but there still are lines that shouldn't be crossed because it's a sensitive time, and most of what is supposed to be funny in this book, is negative and exagerrated. I feel sorry that the author feels so negatively about pregnancy. I don't think it's a piece of cake by any means (Actually I can't wait til it's over) but I still don't think that this is book is good for pregnancy. It's just not funny.
I personally would not recommend this book to any pregnant woman.

Summary: hilarious but true
Review: I absolutely loved this book. It was the first book I purchased during my pregnancy along with The "What to Expect" Guide and I am so glad I brought it. The author tells of her pregnancy experiences (all 5 of them) plus the experiences of her friends who have given birth. While this is not a medical guide or point of reference book it gives you real scenarios, practical advice, and laugh out loud humor that you will enjoy and need during your 10 months of pregnancy (yes ten months not nine). Topics include- what to bring to the hospital, sex during and after pregnancy, and a chapter for the expectant father. If you have a sense of humor or need to lighten your mood during your pregnancy this is the book. I highly recommend it.

Summary: Soooo Helpful
Review: I couldn't put it down!!! I was done within three days. This book helped me because I am young and lknow almost no people who have recently been pregnant. She talked about all the stuff your gyno wont tell you or that you are too embarassed to ask about it. Her format was excellent and very funny too. This is a scary time and uuncertain time but she made it a little lighter. I thank her very mush for writing this book. I would suggest this to anyone who is pregnant!!

Summary: Hilarious!
Review: For those of you who need a politcally correct pregnancy book, look elsewhere. I bought those too. This book was so funny, and if you are a first time mom, there's a lot that doctors don't tell you. I bought this book as soon as I was pregnant with my first child, and now that I'm pregnant again, I would re-read it if I knew which friend had mine. Read the medically informative books, then read this one--and all of Vicki Iovine's Girlfriend books (althought the others aren't quite as good as this one). You'll be laughing so hard, it just might induce labor.

Summary: Wonderful book
Review: My mom is an OBGYN, so I have grown up hearing the doctors side of pregnancy. This book tells you everything you really wanted to know, but didn't know who to ask. I would highly recommend this to a new mom-to-be.

Summary: Sex in the City Girlfriends get pregnant
Review: I got this book from a girlfriend who's pregnant, and know I'm trying... and this is such a good guide to fear not all the ugly panties we may have to wear and such matters !!! This is not a medical book, but it goes side by side with one. The book is soooo funny, and is really like a girlfriend is right next to you saying " sister, let me tell you as it is..." and your fears go away in laughter. Love it, and is in my gift list for mothers-to-be from now on.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Mildly entertaining but low on content
Review: The Girlfriend's Guide is written in a breezy, engaging style, but for a first time expectant mother, it provided very little information. Worse yet, it seems jaded. If you favor unchallenging chick lit, then the Girlfriends' Guide is your book.
