Summary: The Girlfriend's Guide to Pregnancy
Review: I don't know what book Shannon read but it wasn't this one. This was the book I was looking for when I was pregnant with my first and it wasn't yet published. It is not a book for someone who wants the details about fetal development and the birth process. There are hundreds of others for that. This book made me laugh more than any other. It helps to know that there are other moms-to-be that are going through the same thing from how strange my husband was acting to why I felt like a pod when I had wanted to be pregnant for so long before. I give this book to all of my expectant friends. The sequels are great too but this is the best.

Summary: Finally a Dose of Reality!
Review: After reading the boring and old-fashioned "What to Expect" books, this book was a breath of fresh air. I felt that I was actually sitting down and getting real advice from the author about things that I needed to know. I had this book for both of my pregnancies, gave it as gifts to other friends of mine, and then bought the Toddler's Guide. I highly recommend this book to those of us ladies that like the pregnancy info. given to us straight up with a twist of humor!

Summary: Irreverent, perfect comedy for any expectant mother
Review: This book is a perfect addition to any expectant mothers' library. I felt like Vicky was one of the girlfriends in my inner circle and that I could share as much with her as she did with me during my pregnancy. Perfectly irreverant and honest about the myriad of changes occurring in the life of a pregnant mommy or adoptive mother. BUY IT NOW! You won't regret it.

Summary: I almost laughed myself into labor!
Review: This is the book that will get you through your pregnancy. The other "technical" and serious books will give you what you need to know - this will give you the strength to go on. With each month of your pregnancy, Vicki's words ring truer and truer. I laughed myself into fits and cramps, at times shedding tears because of her easy reading, no holds barred narrative.

Vicki does not leave any taboo subject out - and no "surprises" for the big day.

If you or a friend of yours is having a baby - and has even the slightest sense of humor - this is the book to lighten the often heavy, depressing weight of information you must consume.

Summary: A light-hearted look at Pregnancy
Review: I'm in my first pregnancy and while many books are informative (and a little scarey with all the talk of risks) this book was refreshingly lighthearted. There's lots of information to be had and it's couched in a writing style that made me laugh out loud over and over. My one disappointment was that there wasn't as much discussion about the baby's development and her fashion tips were a little dated. :) However, I highly recommend the book to anyone a little intimidated and depressed by the purely medical, objective books that we're all supposed to read to be ready for a baby. I'm buying it for my sister who just found out she's pregnant!

Summary: Skip this book.
Review: What a complete waste of the precious little time a pregnant woman has to sit down and read! Fortunately, I realized this early on and tossed the book in the trash. I don't understand why anyone would find it appealing. It's really cynical with very juvenile humor. It makes pregnancy sound like the worst thing that could ever happen to you -- you'll be miserable, your spouse/partner will be unsupportive, will hate the changes in your body, etc. (God forbid if you think about cutting your hair! What?!) For me, pregnancy was such an amazing time, only surpassed by the experience of raising my little girl. Please don't waste your time or your money on this book. I would avoid the What to Expect books as well. They will just make you worry. Hope this review is helpful to you. Relax and enjoy your pregnancy!

Summary: Great read for every pregnant woman!
Review: I read Vicki Iovine's book while I was pregnant last year, and it was wonderful! This book provides a much-needed break from all the heavy duty health information that most mothers-to-be are reading. Plenty of down-to-earth advice and laugh-out-loud stories. Not a book to use to research medical conditions, but great for just common sense preparation. As stated in the Amazon editorial review, Iovine definitely has her strong opinions and philosophies- whether you agree with them or not, she still provides plenty of more neutral subject matter any pregnant woman can identify with.

Summary: Very Informative- For a first timer
Review: I have read this book. I am not yet pregnant, but I am going through the steps to conceive. I think that this book is a little scary for someone who has not yet given birth. But, lets face it, motherhood and pregnancy are scary. I dont think that this book was only written for women of upperclass, as some other readers have stated. I am not of upper class, I did not find that she was shallow. She did not tell you to get the most expensive stuff, she recommended going to second hand shops. That is not shallow. I find that she was like any other woman who would sit down and tell you about their experiences. She has the right to her opinion. She didnt bad mouth alternative forms of birthing, she simply stated she recommends and prefers to give birth in a hospital with a medical doctor present. I did not know about half of the information that she provided. I have read the more clinical books, and this was the most honest. The other books are good for clinical information, but this book was good for those questions and concerns you dont want to ask anyone else, or that you would only ask your friends. All in all she puts having children in a realistic light, with a great gift at the end. Read this book with an open mind

Summary: Hysterical
Review: Very funny and definitely tells you how it is.

Summary: Scared Me
Review: Sometimes I felt she imposed an incredible fear in me after reading her all too real account of the whole process of giving birth. I also felt her continuous little jabs to the male race has put bad thoughts in my head...for example when she describes how she felt once she had given birth and how unfair she felt it was that her husband and the baby were together and she was left alone. Why do you, especially if you are a first timer, need to put a thought like that in the back of your memory? It will only fuel more bad feelings, as if, we don't have enough at times already! I will give her that she seems to be very frank about the process but after I literally threw the book across the room (not like me) and had a good cry for a while, I wondered if the book was really good in the fact that it is told like one of those women who go up to you and tell you "their" birthing story (which personally I can't stand) or if it was bad because it has tainted me in a way. I guess I feel that after reading the book I have taken on more negative feelings toward the birthing process and a bit angry at my husband for things he hasn't even done yet. I know it is going to be tough day giving birth in 3 months but I just feel I didn't need her thoughts staying with me like they have. I would tell first timers esp. to not read the book...you'll be with happier thoughts.
