Rating: Summary: Fun to read Review: The book is fun to read & provides some useful information. However, I would not recommend this book as the only book you will need if you are pregnant & want some educational material. It is easy & fun to read for pleasure.
Rating: Summary: A necessity for mothers-to-be Review: This book aims to be the humorous, real-life perspective on having a baby and I believe it delivers. I looked forward to reading, and re-reading several of the chapters. The section about "nesting" is just so hilarious. I was cracking up when I first read it. Of course this book won't replace other necessities - such as one of the "your pregnancy this week" books or even some more intelligent reads like "Having Faith." But if you want a laugh - and you need a laugh - go to this book.
Rating: Summary: Overrated, not encouraging Review: Although occasionally funny (especially towards the beginning), and initially readable with its engaging approach, the Girlfriends' Guide ends up being a discouraging discourse into all the downsides of pregnancy. Ms. Iovine especially spends a lot of time discussing getting fat during the course of the pregnancy and on getting rid of the fat afterwards. Get it out from the library if you must but don't waste your money.
Rating: Summary: Hilarious and Truthful Review: This book is wonderful! I wish someone had given it to me with my first pregnancy. I am now on my 2nd pregnancy and laughed out loud reading this book!! It's packed with great information about those little surprises you don't learn about until you actually are pregnant or give birth. I highly recommend this book as a gift for yourself or someone you know who is expecting.
Rating: Summary: The Best on the Topic Review: Once we found out that my wife was pregnant we went out and got an arm full of books and this was one of them. This book was by far both my wife's and my favorite of all the pregnancy books we bought. We both thought it was full of very helpful and interesting information that she wanted or needed. You really understand what is going on each week with the development of the baby. It also provides a great deal of pictures and illustrations. It is just an all around very useful book that has a lot of humor. My wife said it was the "inside story" on what she really needs to know. We recommend this book to all of our friends.
Rating: Summary: Laugh out loud fun! Review: This book was my saving grace! This being my first pregnancy, I had no idea what to expect--this book put everything into perspective. Vicki reminds you that it's okay to feel the way you do, even though the rest of the world thinks you're ridiculous. The Girlfriend's guide is a hilarious look at what pregnancy is REALLY like and will make you laugh out loud more than once. Vicki tells it like it is in this no-holds-barred glance into the realm of the pregnant mind and body. A definate must-have -- first pregnancy or fifth!!
Rating: Summary: great book Review: When I'm pregnant, I'm grouchy, cranky and anxious. This book addresses the fears, anxiety and hormonal changes that the Girlfriends faced, and assured me that I'm not the only weird one.It also uses a light-hearted approach to describe various aspects of pregnancy, truely the things you never thought about asking your doctor or friend. I highly recommend this book!
Rating: Summary: Fun, and Reassuring Review: Vicki Iovine doesn't suggest she is giving medical advice, just providing her honest account of pregnancy. I loved reading that she endured exactly what I was feeling! I found myself reading aloud to my husband, saying, "see, it's NOT just me!" Sit back and relax and enjoy the book, it's a lot of fun.
Rating: Summary: For the insane pregnant woman in all of us! Review: This book is absolutely great. It got me through my first pregnancy, and kept me from going completely crazy when my daughter came late! Vicki Iovine is a great writer, and appeals to our humorous side. However, the thing I like most about this book is that she not only makes it fun to read, she also reports the facts and helpful information that every pregnant woman (or her partner) needs to know. Absolutely, without a doubt, this is the best book I got during my pregnancy.
Rating: Summary: Not for the biologist..... Review: "The Girlfriend's Guide to Pregnancy" is good for kicks-sort of like slapstick comedy. It does lack biology and medical facts and is mostly based upon the author's opinion. If you want a light fun read, then this may something for you. My personality and the relationships that I have with my husband and friends are quite different than Vicki's, so I could not relate with most of what she wrote about. It is not a horrible book, but if you want factual information then this book is not for you.
