Summary: Funny, but shouldn't be your main source for information
Review: I liked the authors style, but two things bugged me. (1) She keeps touting that pregnancy lasts 10 months (because, as she says there are 4 weeks in each month, and since pregnancy is 40 weeks, that's 10 months). That's just not true otherwise our year would only be 48 weeks long! There are on average 4.33 weeks in each month (52 weeks divided by 12 months) so a pregnancy is just about 9 months. (2) She complained about having to "go through the x-ray machine at the airport". I believe she was actually talking about the metal detector that people walk through - the only x-ray machine is the one that your bags go through. So, no need to make pregnant women fear the metal detectors at airports - there are no x-rays scanning you, just your bags! On the whole this was funny, and some important information that women aren't getting elsewhere is provided.

Summary: Very Real and Funny
Review: My husband is a physician and he was surprised by the information she provided. I felt so identified with her. It was like my story on the book, it help me a lot when I felt nobody could understand my feelings.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: A funny, relaxing read
Review: While I don't agree with everything that the author promotes (I do not think an occasional glass of wine is ok, and I do not agree that you should be drinking coffee whenever you feel like it) the book is very funny and takes you mind off of the more serious stuff for a while. So you don't agree with everything, shkip what you don't like. This isn't meant to be a medical book or a What to Expect book, but rather a funny, laugh-out-loud look at pregnancy. Put your feet up, grab a (healthy) snack, and enjoy!

Summary: Very Entertaining!
Review: We are trying to conceive and I am finding this book to be very entertaining and informative. I find myself laughing out loud at the author's wonderful sense of humor. I plan on buying this book for all of my pregnant friends!

Summary: Not what I expected!
Review: I bought this book thinking it would be fun. I was hoping it would ease some of my fears and tensions but it did the exact opposite. It scared me! Some of it is funny-but she really focuses on some mediocre stuff that most likely the majority of us wouldn't even worry about. I felt depressed after I read it-then I realized it was just a book and I am not going to let one lousy book get me upset.

Summary: HILARIOUS outlook on pregnancy!
Review: This book was given to me by a friend.
It was soooo funny! It's so "matter of fact" about your pregnancy. She tells you whats going to happen without tippy toeing around the facts. Just says it like it is!
I bet the author would be one of the funnest people to know!
I highly recommend this book, and intend to buy it for pregnant friends in the future.

Summary: Should be titled ¿Cheerleading Squads Guide to Pregnancy¿
Review: o.k., I admit I have laughed out loud reading this book. I've read about Vicki's 20 girlfriends who've been pregnant and all of their trials and tribulations with pregnancy & delivery. However, for those of us who have supportive husbands who DO want to have children (and didn't "knock us up" by accident) or for those of us who already have imperfect bodies and don't obsess about outgrowing our size 4 jeans, some of her banter is really irritating. The book is a good one to add to the collection but it's not the one to refer to for anything too serious.

Summary: This is not a medical book - nor does it claim to be!
Review: The Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy is what it claims to be: a lighthearted read that should in no way take the place of a doctors advice. Vicki qualifies almost everything she says by stating "talk to your doctor" if it doesn't sound right to you. I think that the people who didn't like this book are simply taking it too seriously. Yes, pregnancy is a serious subject, but give me a break, sometimes you just need to laugh. And laugh I did while reading this book. I guess it's just a matter of personal humor as to what you find funny. But, if you don't find this book funny, you need to talk to your doctor about locating your funny bone - and do it soon!! (I also have to mention, in response to the person who said her friend didn't like this book because of the treatment of miscarriage, I also have had a miscarriage and didn't find anything wrong with the treatment of the subject in this book. However, it is an extremely hard topic to deal with - duh - so again I have to say it depends on your sense of humor and how far you are removed from the miscarriage situation!)

Summary: All titles by this author are a must read....Fantastic
Review: Miss Iovine's humor is so welcome as she discusses the ups and downs of pregnancy...I have bought this book for several pregnant friends. It is just what you need to lift your spirits. Read this and you'll find yourself rolling on the floor laughing. (But you might not be able to get up!)

highly recommended.

Summary: Not for the stuffy type, a fun and hip book
Review: This is a fun, honest, book about how the presumably young and newly pregnant are truly feeling, but are afraid to admit it. She tells of the pregnancy woes from a completely humorous point of view. A sense of humor and lightness are an absolute MUST for this book. It is NOT a medical guide with stodgy advice, if that's what you're looking for, then try the everpopular "What to Expect When You're Expecting", which incidentally was not a favorite of mine. Not my style. And as for having alcohol while pregnant, well, it's not the best thing to do for your baby, but I know how many totally misinterpret and act like Vicki Iovine is advising you to a can a day or something. I know physicians who have had an occasional glass of wine during their pregnancy, and that is of course, with the OK from their OB/GYNE. It just cracks me up how people can take one point from the book and totally twist it out of proportion. The bottom line is, this is a FUN pregnancy book and a breath of fresh air from all the technical ones out there. I don't recommend this as the ONLY book to have, it should be part of your collection mixed amongst the more serious if you should choose.
