Summary: This book never took off
Review: This was a pick of my book club and that is the only reason I finished it. I must admit I have not read anything about Amelia Earhart but I also don't think I will now. The book was dry from the very start. I never connected with any of her characters. I think Amelia Earhart sounded like a spoiled child who always thought she was right. Her navigator came out looking like a total drunk. I had no emotional attachment so I didn't much care what happened to either of them. I wouldn't waste my time with this one.

Summary: Pleasant.
Review: This was a pleasant diversion that I read on Don Imus' suggestion. The author has given us a plausable alternative to the other theories of what happened to Amelia and her (all too often forgotten) navigator. Wonderful descriptive writing which I found relaxing and interesting. A good choice for readers who are looking for a short escape.

Summary: My favorite book of 1996.
Review: Transporting you to another time, and effectively another world, this is an ingenious combination of fiction and fact. The writing is superb. As soon as I finished the book, I started reading it over again. I cannot stop thinking about it so I'm going to surrender and read it again. I can't remember ever doing that in adulthood. I wish I had actually read it on a desert island. Everyone in my life is receiving a copy for Christmas!

Summary: A lyrical poem of fantasy and introspection
Review: Yes, another book about the disappearance of Amelia Earhart.. BUT this one combines the fresh and playful thoughts from a new novelist with the healthy introspection that we all experience upon the death or dissapearance of someone famous. Its a great companion on a day trip to the beach or an afternoon on the parkbench with a cool skin of Chablis and french bread.
