Rating: Summary: I never thought I would like a hit man! Review: J. P. Keller is funny, fair, human, and loves dogs. I can't wait for the next Keller book.
Rating: Summary: This is NOT a How-to book. Review: The story is interesting, but the actual crimes are reruns of what we've all seen in the movies and on TV a thousand times. Some civil libertarian groups were fighting to keep this book on the shelves on First Amendment grounds. They obviously hadn't read the book itself before starting to waste their time. The book's main character is interesting. It's mostly a psychological look into an ethical hit-man's mind. (Hey, it's just a job.) To me the most interesting character is a minor figure, the hit-man's female intermediary. Overall, this is a different read and a nice change from the usual murder mystery. But a manual on how-to-do-in-the-neighbors it's not.
Rating: Summary: It was different. Review: First of all, I have to admit that this is a well written book. That said, be warned that it might do some funny things to your head. Most of the novel concerns (us) getting to know Keller and, possibly, getting to like him. After all, his daily life and struggles aren't ALL that different from our's. Are they? Hey, wait a minute! That's right! This guy's a cold blooded, mass-murdering assassin. Oh, the moral delemmas of life. What's my therapist's number again?
Rating: Summary: Unforgettable! Review: As someone who reads constantly, many books I read are enjoyed but forgotten. "Hit Man" is one of the few that stays with you. The main character, although a killer, is also someone you can relate to in many ways. Lawrence Block knows how to evolve a character like no one else. I highly recommend this book. You won't regret it.
Rating: Summary: The HIT of the Year Review: The more and more I read books by Lawrence Block, the more I get amazed by him. He is clearly one of the best writers around. This book is no exception. The separate stories within the book are each and every one intriguing, yet still all flow together so seemlessly. I had to wait quite a long time to read this book and was eagerly anticipating reading it, I was not in the least bit disappointed. The humor in the stories and the exceptional writing kept me reading. I hope that we all get to see more of Keller soon.
Rating: Summary: A highly amusing read Review: This is the only book by Block that I have read so far, but I can assure you that I will read more. I found HIT MAN to be a very amusing book about a hit man going through a mid life crisis. I love books that deal with life and issues from a different perspective and this one hit the mark! I recommend it if you can handle a change from the ordinary.
Rating: Summary: Another dark side hero Review: A sleepless thief, a drunk pi, a burgler and now... a hit man. As usual we learn to like the most unlikely hero. Short stories make it an easy read and as usual - very entertaining.
Rating: Summary: New character, great Block... Review: I am Lawrence Block fan. I have read all Bernie Rhodenbarr books, the Matt Scudder series the four books in the Affairs of Chip Harrison and several other books. When I saw "Hit Man" on the shelf with other Block books I had to take it home. I was surprised to find it isn't a novel but a collection of stories about a hit man. As the title suggests each of the stories is about a hit man, Keller, who is a paid assassin. Keller is an interesting character. He lives alone in his one-bedroom New York City apartment except for a short period when her has a live in girl friend and a dog he acquired after a hit. He never cooks for himself depending on restaurants and take-out food. In each adventure Keller receives a call from someone in White Plains, New York and is off to that upstate community to get his assignment from the "old man," through an intermediary, Dot. Keller is NOT a hero in the true sense because after all he is a killer. Nevertheless the character is true Block. I enjoyed it and found the book was a page-turner because you want to go from one assignment to the other. At one point I though Block was going to wipe out this character. However the last story in the book opens the possibility of more "Hit Man" episodes. This, I am please to find out, will be so as Lawrence Block is preparing another "Hit Man" book for publication next year.
Rating: Summary: Keller can be addictive. Review: This is a collection of short stories about a hit man who goes by the name of J.P. Keller. He is seriously considering a change or two in his life. Will taking a hobby in flowers work? What about stamp collecting or real estate? As for his job, well that does not have easy questions either. Can Keller kill someone he actually likes? When two people hire him to kill the other, which will he kill and which will he not? Ah, yes, life as a hit man has its advantages and disadvantages. I would recommend this one for exciting reading even though it is short stories. In my opinion, it give readers some very entertaining time spend with their noses between the pages of this book.
Rating: Summary: Terrible! Review: This book details the life a hit man going through a mid life crisis! The book just goes on and on. I was waiting for a point! Don't waste your time.
