Rating: Summary: What was this supposed to be? Review: This book never really does anything. A hit man wanders around, kills people, contemplates life, almost get a life of his own in the form of a dog and a girl, but then both of them just disppear from the story, leaving our lead to wander around until the end. What's the point?
Rating: Summary: Super Read! so read it TWICE! Review: Can't wait to see MORE of Keller! This book is a must for any hitman fan. If you enjoy this, check out the movie Grosse Pointe Blank, the novel Pest Control by Bill Fitzhugh, and not to mention all the other Lawrence Block Novels too!
Rating: Summary: Loved the book. Let's see some more of Keller! Review: I am hot for action fiction. This was a great story of Mr. Everyman who performs his job to perfection, but becomes bored with the routine. Keller kills, so a relationship outside his job, even if its a dog, is a problem. Did he kill his dog and his girlfriend? I think so. Read it and find out!
Rating: Summary: This Is a Good One Review: The hit man portrayed in this novel I pictured as Michael Madsen from "Vengeance Unlimited". This book isn't Mafia, which was one of the reasons I picked it up. But , instead I got a pleasant and a well crafted read from a different kind of killer. Not what I expected but never the less a good read. Each chapter could seriously be its own little sit-com story. I enjoyed this book and look forward to more stories about Keller.
Rating: Summary: Larry Block still on top Review: The hit man in HIT MAN is reminicent of Bernie Rhodenbarr (another Block character) which makes him a hit with me. The story neatly demonstrates that even a killer can have an unambiguous, binding moral code. HIT MAN follows the adventures of a hit man who encounters various tests of his moral fibre. He passes most of the tests. Not a gut busting laugh fest (except once), but highly amusing never-the-less. Fans of LB should feel right at home; and if you've never heard of LB, this is probably a good place to get hooked.
Rating: Summary: Great Read!! Hopefully a new Bloch character we'll see again Review: A died in the wool Mathew Scudder fan,I was at first skeptical of this new guy. I love the way the characters unfold, and unlike one of the previous reviews, I found the stamp collecting part of this fascinating. Bloch is a master.
Rating: Summary: Character Study Review: I am a Matthew Scudder fan and have read and enjoyed a few of those mysteries. I saw Hit Man and decided to read it.It's just a character study of a hit man more than a book with a beginning, middle and end. He grows throughout the book, but who cares? I skipped whole sections in the back about stamp collecting. Just kill some more people why don't you? If we wanted to know about feelings, we'd read Jane Eyre. The humor is really lame, too. I found myself rolling my eyes a few times; very juvenile. It was like evesdropping on two highschoolers.
Rating: Summary: Excellent book - laughed out loud at some parts Review: What a surprise this book turned out to be. Initially I purchased this book as something that would be a serious story of a Hit Man - To find him going through a mid-life crisis and even going to a shrink was a pleasant surprise. An extremely enjoyable book that the reader will not be able to put down. Take the time to read this one.
Rating: Summary: Not vintage Block Review: While I never tire of Block's style and his ability to shape characters, I found this book to be 'Seinfeld-ish'. It was over 300 pages about nothing.
Rating: Summary: I can't wait for Keller's return! Review: I actually picked this book up on a fluke. I just finished Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake series and was fascinated by the hit man character. I finished Hit Man in one sitting. I really liked Keller. I found the man to be a laugh riot. Some of his trains of thought were off the wall -- and very amusing. The only part of this book that I disliked was the last short story. I found it to be dull -- and skipped over the majority of it. I still feel slightly disappointed. Ahh well -- it was a wonderful book anyways! Read it!
