Rating: Summary: TRULY A REVELATION! Review: How illuminating! I was really enlightened by Invisible Life and Just as I Am took me even further. I became so acquainted with the characters that I felt the pain, joy, longing as well. Now, this is powerful.
Rating: Summary: SORRY! Review: I DIDN'T KNOW THAT IT MAY TAKE A FEW DAYS FOR A MESSAGE TO POST, THAT'S WHY I HAVE TWO ALMOST OF THE SAME POSTS ON THE MESSAGE BOARD. I COULDN'T REMEMBER THE FIRST POST VERBATIM, BUT I'M SURE THEY COME OUT TO DISPLAY WHAT I FEEL.
Rating: Summary: ANOTHER BESTSELLER ! E.Lynn's done it again! BRAVO! Review: This novel is part-two to E.Lynn Harris' first novel Invisible Life. Once again we're engrossed in the lives of Raymond, Basil, Nicole and Kyle. We're introduced to newcomers like, Jared, Delaney, Gilliam, Pierce and Janelle. E.Lynn has chosen new locations such as Atlanta and trips back home to bring us into the pages of this wonderful story. Plus he still has things going on in his old stumping ground of New York. This was another book I can't put down.(May 1999) I picked this one up as soon as I completed Invisible Life and when I looked at the clock I realized I'd been reading and sitting in the same spot on my porch since the morning sunrise. This book is compelling, powerful and yes BOLD. It's laced with rich and beauitful language and continues to broaden your understanding of gay men and the choices they make. AWESOME! AWESOME! That's what comes to mind when I think of E.Lynn Harris and his writing style. Now it's on to Abide With Me, which is part three of this "AWESOME" trilogy. Once you experience E.Lynn Harris and his literary magic, you'll never see things the same.
Rating: Summary: CRYING A RIVER! Review: Loved this book! Harris smoothly and deftly moves the narration between his main characters Raymond & Nicole. I was taken back a bit that the book alters the narration between the two charcters. It was amusing to see how each one spoke of a certain situation, but expressed subtle differences in how things played out. As a sequel, in my opinion, it surpasses its predecessor, Invisible Life. I was blown away by how much the characters had grown and changed. I was also completely engrossed in how they looked at certain situations and what the implications on their lives had been. Kudos to Mr Harris for being such a masterful story teller.
Rating: Summary: the sequel to Invisible Life Review: Raymond is back trying to figure out where to go with his life. The only thing I didn't like about this book as much as the first, is the way the author jumps from first person character in each chapter. I got a little confused as to who was speaking next. It was still a great story though.
Rating: Summary: Could hardly wait for the drama to continue... Review: After the first book (Invisible Life), I could hardly wait to see what happened next. I felt a bit cheated. This book was much slower than the first. I found myself rushing, saying okay already, I got the point. It wasn't as captivating as the first. But I still remained curious for answers to questions from the first book, which still remain unanswered. There was, however, the scene when Kyle died and leaves a note for Raymond, which was indeed the highlight of this storyline. It was very emotional, and it drew you right into the room with Kyle to the very end. While Raymond read the letter, you actually felt every emotion Raymond was feeling. A truly effective piece of work by Harris. If only the other issues were told as effectively as these two parts, I would have given the book a much higher rating. I still enjoyed reading and following the story and can't wait to finish the next. It amazes me to know that so many people today have issues regarding sexuality. It leaves me wondering why? What is happening?
Rating: Summary: EXCELLENT BOOD FOR EVERYONE Review: THIS BOOK IS BASICALLY CHANGED EVERYTING FOR ME WHEN IT COMES TO FICTION. IT DEALT WITH BISEXULITY, GENDER, RACE AND ETC. IT EXPLORED EVERYTHING. I DEFINIETLY RECOMMEND JUST BECAUSE IT WAS A GOOD STORY FROM BEGINNING TO END. VERY WELL ROUNDED AND INTERESTING CHARCTERS. I ALSO RECOMMEND THE OTHER BOOKS OF HARRIS
Rating: Summary: Just Plain Loved It Review: Well, let me start by saying that I had the pleasure of reading this book about two years ago, and it still remains one of my favorites. I have the entire collection of his books (but his one is still my favorite. I STILL find myself reading diffrent passages from the book - my all time favorite is and always will be "The letter from Kyle to Raymond (I really cried). I just loved the part when he said "If its good enough for God, then why worry about mear mortals. This book was the best of all. I have just now ordered it on cassette for the long drives I sometimes take. Hey, Mr Harris do you think you could combine "Invisable Life" and "Just As I Am" and make a movie. I promise you it would be a winner. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK !
Rating: Summary: Great Reading!! Review: I was moved and captured by this book. I'm glad Raymond found true love, and I'm happy for Nicole too. It's too bad Raymond didn't know that his true love was always there in college, but everything has its time and place.
Rating: Summary: Sorrow, Uplifting and Inspirational Review: I'm not an avid reader, but after reading "Just As I Am", it was the most inspirational Novel I've read in a long time. Each character felt so real as if they were friends of mine. I felt their agony as well as their conquest. I recommend this book to any one who is confused about their sexuality. This book will allow you to be honest with yourself. It's a great book for all who are not afraid to hear the truth. Thank you E. Lynn Harris for writing such a great master piece. I'm looking forward to reading "Invisible Life".
