Summary: Awful doesn't begin to describe it!
Review: It is one of the few books that is worse than the movie. I hated the book from beginning to end. I am compulsive on finishing a book once I start, but it was almost enough to make me stop. The characters are one dimensional. I am surprised that they were able to make such a wonderful movie out of this awful book. That sounds like I am a movie fanatic which I am definitely not. I read voraciously and love books. This one just needs to be put out of its misery.

Summary: Read this a long time ago, but remember my feelings well
Review: This remains the only book I have ever read that is worse than the movie. The adventures were less believable (albeit, his life in the movie is pretty out there too!) and the book, surprisingly, doesn't allow the reader to love Forrest as much as the movie does.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Great, great, great book.
Review: So I thought, well, what the hell... I'll read it. I liked the movie, didn't I...? So I read it and found that it is so much better than the movie! I heard once that the people who did the movie didn't want to pay Groom, claimimng that they changed it enough. And they sure did! This book is funny, with a smart and naughty touch, unlike the movie which was, maybe, a *bit* corny. One thing is sure, you won't regret reading this one. It is a very fast read too.

Summary: Like a box of chocolates
Review: I saw the movie the same day after finishing the book and agree with some other reviewers that the book is a little better. The book has some more outlandish adventures: Gump being shot into space with an ape, an odd mishap with dinner for a few hundred soldiers, etc. I don't recall Gump's cross-country run being in the book, I think that may have been the producer's way of tying things together. One reviewer wrote that this was like a collection of short stories. I agree somewhat. However, I seem to recall Gump referring to previous situations/people in his adventures and sometimes learning from them, so it is not completely disjointed. It's the voice that is the real winner. Gump's perceptions are hilarious for a couple of reasons: First, Gump is so sophomoric; though supposedly not the brightest person, he is not one to be duped. Second, we can tell what is REALLY going on from what Gump tells us but doesn't fully understand.

The book is hard to put down and is a quick and easy read.

Summary: Better than the movie
Review: This book made me realize that the movie, while being one of the best I've ever seen, doesn't do it justice. The book has Forrest getting into even more outlandish (and less wishy-washy) situations. For example, he spends 4 years in stranded in the jungles of New Guinea and learns chess from a Yale-educated tribal leader named Big Sam. You have to read it to believe it.

Summary: Incredible
Review: This book is the novel of the movie, "Forrest Gump". If you love the movie, then you will love this book. The story in this book is completely different from what you have seen in the movie, and you may find it difficult to believe what Mr. Gump have encountered in his life. But eventually, you will believe it. That is a good book.

Summary: Like a collection of short stories
Review: This book is very witty. I saw the movie before I read the book, and if the movie had to contain everything that's in the book, it would have to be in two or three parts.

It's like Winston Groom wants to tell everything about post-War history and society in the USA, and the idea of seeing this through the eyes and wisdom of a supposedly less intelligent and man with a big heart is a good idea. It makes you learn, think, laugh and cry. Even the language of Forrest Gump is on an intentionally low and naive level.

Summary: Forrest Gump
Review: This book had to be one of the funniest books that I have ever read. When I picked this book to do a report on I thought to myself that this would be easy. I would just watch the movie and call it good but I was wrong! I'm glad that I went ahead and read the book anyway because I got to experience the true meaning. This book was great. From the football to outerspace this book definately diserves best book award in my world. Trust me. If you read this book you will not regret it!

Summary: Forrest Gump
Review: I read the book after I saw the movie, still the book outperforms the movie undoubtedly. The book could really take you to somewhere you'd never imagined, through the eyes of Forrest Gump, everything is possible. It was hysterical, cynical, well-written and an ultimate satire of American history, a must-read book that you have to keep in your collections.

Summary: Forrest Gump
Review: This is a really great book in every aspect. From college football,to the Vietnam War, and even the game of Ping-Pong, this book has everything to offer. From the introduction of the book till the end. My favorite part of the book would have to be when he hit the guy in the guy in head with his medal. The story uses the first persons point of view through Forrest's eyes, which lets you see how he views the world. Although he is considered an idiot by his IQ of seventy, his thoughts make you think of who the real idiots are. Forrest is a great character because he does not really care what people think about him. Even if he knew that a person did not like him, it would not really bother him. Another original trait of Forrest is that he acts on instinct instead of reason, which leads to a few embarrassments. For example, when he was honored as being one of colleges' best football players, his first words were that he had to pee. Forrest is also an excellent character because you see him change in life from a boy into a man. His life is full of suprises. Forrest also experiences ups and downs of true love through his best friend Jenny. Jenny was the only girl Forrest's age who gave him a chance. Since they both needed a good friend, they were meant for each other. The movie Forest Gump does not compare to the novel. I feel that the book puts a lot of different scenes in it than does the movie. The book is also more humorous than the movie because you have to use your own imagination to visualize what is really going on. This is probably the funniest book I have ever read. I have never experienced a book like this in which every other page creates an amusing adventure. I would definitely recommend this novel to anyone who likes a book that makes get a good laugh out of it By:Chris Thompson
