Rating: Summary: Unseen but not unreadable! Review: my third Robinson novel. A taut, tense tale of a clever bad guy "out there somewhere" prepared to wreak unspeakable havoc on the western world in a stolen hi-tech submarine.as a naval buff, I liked the narrative style, mixing the militarily possible with the improbable.a jolly good read (allow 2-3 days for best results!)
Rating: Summary: Is Adnam out there? Review: I start reading this book and the next thing you know, Egypt Air falls from the sky near Nantucket. Ok, it is far fetched but Patrick Robinson makes the impossible sound possible. The action is intense from the start. If you hate slow starting books, read this book. My only problem was the foul language. He could tone it back a notch. For those with the stomach, this is a must read book that you will not want to put down.
Rating: Summary: Pathetic dialog Review: After Kilo and Nimitz, I was also disappointed with Unseen. The characters are cartoonish. Admiral Morgan is a bore. I am dropping out at page 166 while he is on his grand tour of the UK.
Rating: Summary: Excitement only keeps building! Review: We heard the audio version while on a trip and were really caught up in it. The villan, almost captured a bit of our sympathy dispite the crimes he committed. While we can't comment on naval accuracy, we did think that he made it every bit as exciting as does Tom Clancy, who is one of our favorites. We can't wait to read the other two books by the author, but we are sorry that we "read" the third book first.
Rating: Summary: Poor, boring and predictable Review: I found this to be the worst of Robinson's three novels. His hero is not a very appealing individual - I found myself rooting for the villaim - a very evil person. The ending is quite illogical - given what went before. Save your money and wait for Clancy's next book.
Rating: Summary: Extremely good until weak ending Review: A rocking good plot and great action. HMS Unseen rivals 'Rainboe Six' and 'Triumph and Glory' as my favorite of the summer ( I guess summer's over--OK, my favorite of THE LAST FEW MONTHS) Robinson slacks off a bit in the last 1/4 of the book though, it kind of fizzled for me at that point.
Rating: Summary: Good But Not Great Review: Robinson's plots are interesting, but his characters are mere caricatures of real people. Adm. Morgan is possibly one of the most grating characters in modern fiction. Also, in the first half of the book, the narrator relates a rumor wherein the US president summons a magazine editor/publisher to the White House, and threatens him with a treason charge for investigating an indiscretion on the part of a U.S. military leader. Reality check anyone? Let's just take a quick look at the Bill of Rights and decide whether any president would have the audacity to try this one. It seems as though Robinson is trying to live out some self-aggrandizing fantasy through the character of the president.
Rating: Summary: Not as good as the first two, Too much eating! Review: Unseen fell flat about midway through and never recovered. Especially annoying was the exaustive detail of every single meal eaten by every character (I am not kidding). Don't read this book if you are dieting! Otherwise a good read but by far not his best work.
Rating: Summary: A Tour-de-Force. Robinson is a master. Review: Like his previous novels, Patrick Robinson has written a "can't put it down" page turner. All his characters, in particular, Adnam- Eliat 1, are engrossing. Brimming with excitement and detail this book is a powerful reminder of the vulnerability of all things.Well done Patrick - looking foward to the next one.
