Summary: A book for those whom love animals and wide open spaces!
Review: After reading these reviews I just had to buy this book and I'm glad I did... ...
This is a memoir-style story about how two animal loving people, a mutt and cat loving writer (Jeanne Marie Laskas) and a poodle packing physchologist, (her long time male friend) that begin as friends in the city and end up sharing their lives with each other and the pets they cherish on a 50 acre farm. This is both funny and entertaining, mixed with the realities of life when it comes to losing beloved pets and family. For anyone that thinks animals are people too, you will enjoy this fast-paced and humorous adventure!

Summary: A Dream Come True
Review: I loved this book. Written with warmth and humor, it is the most original and enjoyable material I've read in months. Jeanne Marie Laskas doesn't have to try too hard to be funny. She just is. There are certain repetitions regarding her inner princess, her husband's all pants half-off joke, stupid sheep, etc. and the roo, roo, roo and woof, woof, woof that give voices to her beloved dogs, Betty and Marley, that make the story come alive. She is also not afraid to show her serious side and reveal her vulnerabilities. Mostly Laskas had me laughing, but sadly, there are elements that aren't so funny. Believing at first this would be a "fish out of water story"-city couple tries to make dream of farm living a reality and everything goes wrong-it is quite the contrary. This is a love story-love between a couple, their extended family (family members, city friends, country friends, their fifty acres of farmland, and lots and lots of animals. Bravo!!! I highly, highly recommend.

Summary: How could anyone be that clueless?
Review: The unbelievably clueless move to the country where they continually display an uncommon lack of common sense and the apparent inability to plan ahead. It was funny at first, but I wasn't laughing with the author, I was laughing at her. By the time they moved to the country I was hoping some hunter would accidentally shoot her and put me out of my misery. I literally threw the tape out of my car window.

Summary: Farm Life From a City Perspective
Review: Having recently bought a farm in the country I had to read this memoir in order to prepare for what I had gotten myself into.

Laskas writes with humor and reality about uprooting herself and her city man to the country. Many stories are humorous like mule buying, tractor trading, weed wacking, and the concept of a fancy French poodle who gets car sick becomming a country dog. Sadly some stories are tragic like when Laskas loses her loyal pet cat and when her neighbor battles cancer. Good and bad all part of real life and written well. So sit back and enjoy your work has only just begun!

Summary: An honest story of love & self discovery.
Review: I absolutely loved this story, I'm sending a copy to my mom & best friend!! Such a sweet and funny tale of love & life!
Excellent read!!

Summary: Wonderful, I felt like I was there with them
Review: I really enjoyed this book. Wonderfully written. I don't look at poodles the same, especially large poodles. Not one of those little yappy things. When I see a barn now, I wonder does someone there say "I have a barn" with earnest. Anyone who reads this book I think would truely enjoy it. The best part is that is a true story.

Summary: Funny and realistic portrayel
Review: In this funny and realistic portrayel of life on a farm, Laskas succeeds in tickling our funny bone. She makes us love the animals, as she reveals the details of their existance. The read is such an enjoyable experience, I cannot wait to read her next book. Entertaining true life memoir. You don't necessarily have to be an animal love to appreciate this book, but it would probably help. Bravo to the author, on finding a most engaging voice, and sharing it with her appreciative readers.

Summary: Loved it!!
Review: This book has it all - animals, a farm, the country, love, marriage, and life's ups and downs. What a grand adventure of leaving the city and finding that dream house, er farmhouse, in the country.

Summary: Hysterical
Review: Wow! The type of book I never wanted to end... especially since I felt like I had a new best friend in Jeanne Marie Laskas. I cannot wait for her next book to see how life is continuing on the farm. A great book to get through on the weekend!

Summary: Fabulous book!
Review: Read this book...you will love it! I put it on my wish list because I love reading Jeanne Marie Laskas's articles every Sunday in the Washington Post Magazine. Ms. Laskas writes with such wit and wisdom. You will laugh out loud and you'll be moved to tears. Ms. Laskas really has a gift. I was so sad when the book ended because I wanted more. I hope there will be a sequel. In the meantime, I'm going to share this one with my friends. It's truly a delightful book!
