Rating: Summary: even grannies need therapy Review: Talk about self-indulgent. This sad old woman's reminiscences on how her daughter never forgave her for emotionally abandoning her as a tiny girl, and her 'realisation' that her daughter was not too bright, and had a flawed character, is not the sort of thing that you should ever write to your grand daughter as a parting gift...Not to mention her own misdemeanours-having a child outside her marriage and never being honest to anyone...I hated reading about how bright and special and sensitive she was as a child compared to her daughter and granddaughter. No wonder every one left her. I can't understand why anyone would want to hear her philosophy on life, take it to therapy granny.
Rating: Summary: Heart scooping Review: Tamaro reaches deep into your soul as she speaks to you through her character. No matter who you are, you can definitely relate to this book. There is such a strong conversation that goes on the moment you start the book. Tamaro's offered one of the best advice I've received so far in this book: stop for a moment, and listen to your heart.
Rating: Summary: Letters of Life Review: The story is told in the form of letters and the letters talk to us about life and what really matters in life. Written like poetry, the book tells us things which could change our lives and the way we treat our fellow beings' lives.
Rating: Summary: Flawed but a jewel nonetheless Review: This book is deeply moving because it deals so closely with issues close to the human heart. The prose is simple and uplifting, the story just an excuse to reveal to us universal truths that we all know but refuse to acknowledge. Critical and cynical people might brush this book aside but I feel that one really has to look very deeply into it to really discover its true worth. This must be read with an open mind and I feel that the ending is particularly apt because there is none. This situation could be so easily applied to our daily lives and the author is telling us in simple gracious terms that patience and undersanding should be the forefront of our relationship with our family. Despite the somewhat muddled use of the flashback technique and several narratives that are a little to rambling, this is a jewel that teaches love, in a world where there is little to be found.
Rating: Summary: A very moving story! Review: This book made me reflect on my relationship with my own mother and grandmother. It truly moved me! I would recommend this book to any woman who is open enough to look at her own life with all its mistakes. The grandmother in this book is very human. She has made mistakes, admits to them, and has learned from them. At the end of her life, she wants her granddaughter to know her family history and also wants her to be able to make the right decisions in regards to her future. She is completely unselfish with her granddaughter's well-being. I had to share this book with my grandmother! Do not believe the reviewers who only gave this 1 star!!! They do not have a heart to follow!
Rating: Summary: touching and fabulous Review: This is among the best novel in epistolary form.
Everytime I continue reading it I could really empathise and sympathise the grandmother's sadness and frustration with her granddaughter. This story is teaching how important it is to take of our loved ones.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic book! Review: This is the best book I have ever read. It literally changed my life. The character development of the grandmother is superb. I found myself really connected to her. Every woman needs a mentor, someone who will encourage, love and believe in her. This book teaches a lot of life lessons, with the most important one being "believe in yourself." Women of all ages should find it an inspiration.
Rating: Summary: Always follow your heart Review: Well written and evocative, Follow your Heart feels fresh and is refreshing. A special collection of wise methaphors about life. Powerful and positive. Enjoy it. It is the best book by this young Italian author. I do not recommend the rest of her novels, but this one is worth your time.
Wheather you read this book or don't, be sure to always follow your heart.
