Rating: Summary: Inspiring and thought-provoking gem Review: First off, allow me to say that I thoroughly enjoyed Tuesdays With Morrie and consider it, without question, to be one of my all-time favorites. That being said, Albom's 2nd offering can neither compare, nor supplement, Morrie. So, please, do yourself a big favor and do not go into this one thinking it will be on the same level of profundity. It's not.Having issued my caveat, allow me to say now that this short, yet poignant, novella, makes for a most enjoyable and thought-provoking read. Do you tell your loved ones how much they really mean to you? Do you possess a genuine love of mankind or are you corrupted by the increasingly pervasive cynicism that unfortunately seems to be the order of the day? When you die, what positive impact will you have made on others from your days on Earth? No, my friends, this is not Dr. Phil. It's Mitch Albom. And it's a book that provokes these and many other timeless questions. It is also, indubitably, in this humble reviewers opinion, a book that should be added to your wish list - today. "Strangers," the Blue Man said, "are just family you have yet to come to know."
Rating: Summary: Get to Know Mitch Albom HERE Review: Mitch Albom once again presents us with a story which many of us can relate or associate ourselves. He does this easily because, like his college professor in 'Tuesdays with Morrie', this book draws on his relationship with someone personally close to him, an uncle. A reader who can see him/herself, or their own life story, between the lines of a book finds that book very comfortable.....and this is certainly one of them. I started this book on a Saturday morning, and with three kids, was finished Saturday night. An easy, enjoyable read. I'm already awaiting Albom's next release.
Rating: Summary: Makes you think... Review: Today is Eddie's birthday... This line has caused me to reflect on several of my birthdays and to realize that with each passing year they become less and less of an event. Eddie is a maintenance man at an amusement park who thought his life had no meaning and that he made no impact on anybody. Five people appear to Eddie immediately after his death and prove him wrong. After reading this book, I began to wonder what five people I would meet in Heaven (or wherever I end up). Perhaps a co-worker I don't really care for, perhaps a best friend from years past, or the person I accidentally cut off in traffic this morning. This book has caused me to re-examine my daily interactions with people and to wonder how those interations have impacted both of us. Have I made a difference in anybody's life without even knowing it? Do the people who made a difference in my life know they did?
Rating: Summary: 5 Reasons Not to Read This Book Review: The title of Mitch Albom's new book sounds interesting enough and could be developed into a great story; but I couldn't find it here. The author skirmishes into the lives and histories of five people whom 'Maintenance Man Eddie' may or may not have known; but doesn't do anything to improve the main character's understanding of his pitiful and worthless life. I found the book to be depressing to read. The only positive thing I took away was the brief time it took to read. It would have been a mistake to invest more time or money. (David in Roanoke, Va.)
Rating: Summary: Like chicken soup poured right into your heart Review: A heartwarming story that, despite it's title, is not necessarily religious but rather thought-provoking. A wonderful follow-up to Tuesday With Morrie, it is impossible not to smile and cry while reading this book.
Rating: Summary: a beautiful book... Review: I could't get through 'Tuesdays with Morrie' because it was too boring, but this book is beautifully written and the story is touching also.
Rating: Summary: Easy, quick read with meaning Review: I was looking for a light book to take on the plane and I grabbed this one. Unfortunately, I read the first page a few days before my trip and finished the book a few hours later! I kept picking it up for "just another few pages". It's great for the imagination as it gives a novel way to view heaven and it starts making you wonder who would be in line to meet you. I recommend this for anyone who doesn't have a ton of time to read and hates to take months on one book. I thoroughly enjoyed it!
Rating: Summary: Once began... hard to put down Review: This book really grabbed me from page one. I was pulled right into the drama of this one man's life... and death. This is a short insightful little gem of a book. It is real. This could be about my own uncle or grandfather. I loved it and especially enjoyed how Albom depicts heaven as a place where the meaning of your life is explained to you... that even when you feel you have wasted your time on Earth... you really haven't because you inadvertently have affected the lives of everyone you ever come in contact with. I am passing this book on to my mom, and a few more friends after that. It is well worth your time to read this book!
Rating: Summary: Artistic and Charming Review: It is a pleasure to experience a creative person at the hight of there craft. In this case, Albom, doing what he does as well as any contemporary, writing in simple easy to read expression. I recommend this book to anyone who has ever had questions about the value of the life they are living, Which is everyone i know.
Rating: Summary: AMAZING Review: I cannot say enough about this fabulous book! I picked it up on a whim and had finished the book in three hours. I could not put it down. Albom does a fantastic job taking you through this man's life and showing how events you aren't even aware of can change your life and the life of those around you. Although a book about "people you meet in heaven", I think Albom does a very good job at dealing with philosophical aspects instead of overly religious aspects, so if you are not a religious person, don't let the title scare you away. This is a book I will read over and over again and have already bought several copies for family and friends. THe premise of the book - how your afterlife is designed to help you understood the life you just led - is fantastic, as is the way everything comes together in the end, in a very realistic way. If you don't read this, you are robbing yourself of a truly great experience.
