Summary: Thanks a lot Ann, I hope it was worth it! $
Review: Ann Coulter is an embarrassment to the right. She uses every lowdown slimy trick in the liberal book to sell hers. She's absolutely no better than they are and this book clearly shows that. I thought she might have something new to add to political awareness or that she might have a fresh perspective on politics in general, NOT! This book is just a rehash of the same old ... spun on television ever night of the week. Republicans and conservatives do not need to sink as low as Ann Coulter goes in this book, which is written in textbook liberal bleeding heart fashion. It's a ... sham that this self proclaimed representative of the right has chosen to drag the image of conservatism down to the depths of liberal ... throwing to put a few bucks in her purse. Maybe the liberals can somehow find a way to sue her for copyright infringement.

Summary: What's the point?
Review: I saw Coutler once on Politically Incorrect and thought she was funny. So I bought this book. It's a rip-off.

Why read a whole book you can sum up in one sentence? Coutler's point is that the media is liberal, and liberals are evil. If you already believe this, there's no reason to read it. If you don't, this book won't convince you (Coutler's over-the-top style
and out-of-context "evidence" makes sure of that).

"Slander" is a waste of time for the same reason as Michael Moore's "Stupid White Men". Both books discourage actual thinking, and exist only to reinforce the presumed bias of the reader. And both hide behind shock-radio hyperbole and name calling to obscure the fact that nothing of substance is being offered.

If you find yourself mouthing "ditto" while listening to Rush Limbaugh, you might like this book. Otherwise, don't bother. You won't learn anything.

Summary: fellow conservative is sorrowed by this book
Review: I gave it 1 star because I can't give it 0. Ann coulter tries to makes me think I'm a victim, or that we as conservatives are victims of liberalism lefties. This just couldn't be any farther from the truth. Her analogies and language are completely crude and useless (for me). Ann comes off very mean spirited. I'd like to see less spin and a clearer discussion of the differences cons. and libs. have.

Summary: The truth hurts; the more truthful, the more screams of pain
Review: This book is so full of footnotes, I thought I was reading a math textbook. A lot of the media observations in this book were familiar to me, as I remember saying to myself, "I wonder if anybody out there is writing this stuff down"

From the day I observed the funeral service which was the set of the CNN political panel after the results of the 1994 republican sweep, I have been alerted to the deep feelings of most of the media. Bernie, Judy, and friends simply could not hide their despair.

Some people have claimed that Katie Couric "cleaned Ann's clock" on the today show interview. I would submit that the today show disagreed, having buried the interview in their last half hour and neglecting to advertise it anywhere in the show until just before showing it.

This book is extremely well written. I think the mistake some people make in criticizing it is that they don't recognize Ann's humor. They take every word as an island and don't understand the greater context which is cleverly hidden within the humor.

I highly recommend this book for anyone who can handle the truth and enjoys sophisticated humor.

Summary: A GREAT BOOK -- THE PEOPLE WHO SHOULD READ IT WON'T
Review: Ms. Coulter articulates everything that I, as a Republican and conservative, feel when I watch or read the news or listen to what passes for political debate from the left. It's a shame the media and the left will ignore the book (as well as Bernard Goldberg's book).
She successfully makes the case that discussion and debate over ideas has been killed by the personal attacks and unbridled hyperbole of the left and the media. She uses footnotes to document every claim and comment (unfortunately necessary from a book coming from the right; the left needs merely to make an accusation without proof).
My beliefs have been painted --- without evidence to back such false and ludicrous claims --- as racist, bigoted, mean, evil, homophobic, anti-environmental (yes we conservatives want to destroy the earth, sea and sky --- somehow, I guess we're going to survive in some secretly-constructed bio-dome) and intolerant.

The media never brands such claims as hate speech, yet call any perceived criticism of, or fight against, leftist programs and as virulent hate speech that will mobilize the KKK, the right-wing book-burners and abortion doctor killers from fly-over country.

Ms. Coulter goes after the New York Times, ABC/NBC/CBS/CNN, news magazines, feminists and Hollywood.

Her analysis of the attack on the hugely successful Fox News Channel is superb and enlightening. Ms. Coulter outlines the outrageously idiotic media sensation over the supposed impact a Bush relative (an employee of Fox and a long-term employee of a major network)had on the 2000 Election. How can someone have impact on the vote when they call an election at 2 a.m. --- yet the network (who all use the same information) not had ANY impact when they called the election before all the polls closed in Florida?
Mr. Coulter also documents the left and the media's hatred of the religion and Christians in general, and it's antipathy towards the citizens and the "oppressed" for which it claims to fight.
If you read "Bias" and "Coloring the News," this book takes those subjects forward and looks at the entire agenda for the left and its effective game plan to eliminate real analysis and debate over government programs and our culture.

This book is an easy and engaging read.

Buy it.

Summary: No Surprises
Review: This is a typical book of its sort...in other words, if you're a conservative reading it, you'll love it. If you're a liberal reading it, you'll hate it. Ms. Coulter decides to eschew any sort of reasonable even-handedness, and resorts to right-wing demagoguery throughout the book. It reads like a slightly less dopey version of Rush Limbaugh, and makes you wonder if anyone is interested in examining both sides of an issue anymore. Oh, wait, the liberal side is argued EVERYWHERE ELSE, so we need books like these. Sorry. Forgot.

Summary: Misinformation
Review: This book was written simply as a quick money-maker, and has no educational value at all. To say that the media is totally left-winged is idiotic. Turn on any cable news channel and see for yourself: they are all conservative. If you are a right-winged individual who hates Clinton, you may get a few chuckles, but that is about it. I am not left-winged pundit, but I find that she is constantly hypocritical throughout the book, and inconsistent in her reasoning.

This woman is known for being loud and abrasive. Her newest book continues this tradition for no apparent reason, except of course, to make some quick bucks.

Summary: An Excellent Book But Not Entirely Objective
Review: First, let me state that I don't agree with Coulter on everything. I think she dismisses environmentalism far too quickly, for instance. So I'm not just an ideologue. [...]

This book is not God's gift to the conservative viewpoint...and it isn't meant to be. If you want a polite discussion of conservative philosophy, check out any one of Bill Bennett's intelligent and thoughtful books.

Coulter's point here is to illustrate just how sleazy and unfair the media (in general) has become, and how incredibly biased it is to the Left. People cite exceptions (Fox News) as if dismissing her case...not true. Falling back on the same exception time and time again only PROVES the rule. Fox News is the lone non-liberal island in a sea of Leftist television. If you HONESTLY don't see it, then either you aren't paying attention or you must have bought into the liberal agenda yourself.

Name ONE other news network that gives a respectful and generous ear to the pro-life viewpoint. Just one.

Coulter isn't doing anything that Michael Moore didn't do in "Stupid White Men," but people rarely call Moore a "hatemonger." It's just that Coulter belongs to the "wrong" side, doesn't she? She makes YOU mad, so she must be evil. The difference between "Slander" and "Stupid White Men" is that "Slander" LISTS ITS SOURCES. Moore is a smart guy and a colorful writer, but he whips up your emotions with accusations and doesn't give much evidence. Coulter does.

My only major complaint with Coulter is that she doesn't seem to understand that sarcasm is often lost on the reader when it is expressed in print. When she compares Katie Couric to Eva Braun, after explicitly referring to how many times liberals have called conservatives "Nazis" and "fascists," it seems like incredibly poor judgement on her part...if it's a joke, we can't see the smirk on her face or the twinkle in her eye, so liberals will simply grab hold of that and scream "HYPOCRITE!!!" Ann should have known better. You can't tease liberals...they'll think you are trying to "suppress" them.

Until discourse in this country gets back to a more even-handed tone, I'm glad to see someone finally giving the liberals a taste of their own venomous, bitter medicine. Now you know how conservatives have felt for the last 20 years. --This text refers to the Hardcover edition

Summary: Slander?
Review: The typical tactic of Hired Propagandists is to tell half truths and rely heavily on omissions. I am a liberal in many areas and a conservative in others like most people. The Tactic of Our National Security State is to divide the 99% of People who are not the "elites". This is necessary so that we do not focus on the real problem: the corporations and bought politicians that serve only the interests of the plutocrats. (Democracy USA style). Coulter is just one of their hired goons. A hate filled one at that. Some of her slander includes: (direct quotes): "John Lind Walker should be executed so that liberals will know they can be executed too". (YES REALLY). oor how about: "We should attack all Muslim Countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity". (Yes Really). I want you to keep in mind why these media propagandists put down "liberals". Liberals want justice and fairness for the 99% of the population that are not the extreme wealthy. We have fought for working conditions, fair pay, and civil rights: something that the propagandists must use every trick in their bag to smear. I happen to have 2 Masters, make decent money.....but I'm with the 99% that see through this"conservative" tripe that does not represent 99% of conservatives. Most conservatives are populists Ann...not the wealthy elite you propagandize for... The book is full of half truths and omissiins as any propaganda must be that uses a tunnel vision approach rather than look at the whole picture.

Summary: Truth is an absolute defense
Review: Ann Coulter's recent work entitled, "Slander" is a fun, fast and interesting read for anyone who is at all familiar with the public battle in the media for the political hearts and minds of the American electorate.

On the other hand, the now-infamous Borkean blonde bombshell crosses the line in far too many places, and in some cases, actually slanders the hapless and loony Left she so justifiably and consistently despises.

As Ms. Coulter is no doubt well-aware, truth is an absolute defense to the charge of slander. And there is a grain of truth to many of the charges leveled at conservatives by liberals as set forth in her book. Thus, in my view, the jury is still out on the issue as to whether liberals (and particularly, media liberals) are ultimately guilty of collective slander in their overall treatment of conservatives in the media.

Furthermore, Coulter herself (and her conservative compatriots as well) are often guilty of the same irrational and unfair behavior that she claims characterizes the liberal attitude toward conservative political discourse. In particular, conservatives in the media treat libertarians and their political arguments in a generally dimissive manner, preferring to use ad hominem attacks and name-calling rather than legitimate debate in order to "discredit" libertarian arguments levied against conservative inconsistencies.

Moreover, much of what appears in Coulter's book has already been written elsewhere, most recently in Bernie Goldberg's book outlining the liberal bias of the media. In my view, Coulter has simply reorganized and regurgitated many of the arguments and observations made by many other conservative pundits on this issue, and would have been better served by simply compiling excerpts from those works as a series of essays on the subject, and then taken credit as the "editor".

Finally, the parameters of the traditional debate between "liberals" and "conservatives" is now decidedly shop-worn and irrelevant. The true debate is between the advocates of statism (both conservative and liberal) and the advocates of liberty. And Coulter's book conveniently ignores the nature and quality of that debate . . . apparently, she's afraid to look in the advocacy mirror where she would surely find the face of a statist.
