Rating: Summary: Ugh! I'm embarrased to have chosen this for my book club! Review: You can certainly tell the author is young. There was no substance to this book. If I were 21 or so I might have enjoyed it more, but it read like a harlequin romance novel and I am truly embarrased to have chosen this book for all the other women in my book club to read.
Rating: Summary: COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN Review: ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS I HAVE READ IN YEARS! I Laughed one minute and cried the next. A must read girly book!
Rating: Summary: Fabulous! Review: I found this story to be touching, insightful and very moving -- not to mention funny at times. It was thought-provoking as well. I can't wait to see what Cecilia comes out with next -- what a stunning first effort!
Rating: Summary: WORST BOOK! Review: Pretty much the worst book I have ever bought!!! The reviews were great for this book but it was just plain bad! I would never again by another book by this author. There was no grasping point to this book!
Rating: Summary: Great Girlie book Review: Loved it. Real tear jerker. Great book Cecelia - well done.
Rating: Summary: A wonderful read!!!!!!!!! Review: This book lives up to all the excellent reviews it has received. Both funny and sad, this young author writes as though she has written many books already. I found myself saying I would read ten pages, then stayed up a little later to read a couple more. It is an inspirational story and very cleverly written. GREAT!
Rating: Summary: Immature Review: I bought this book, the premise sounded like something I would really like. I also noticed some pretty good reviews.I was very surprised at how much I didn't like it. I couldn't even get through the whole book. The writing was immature and shallow, and very repetitive. Maybe I am too old for the type of book, although I do like some of the new "chick lit". I am going to send it to someone else, and let her try it, maybe it was just me.Anyway, if you are reading this review, maybe you should try to get a copy from the library, or borrow one, or even wait for paper. I hate writing bad reviews, I would just rather not say anything at all,but here it is with apologies to the author.
Rating: Summary: Good oul read! Review: Yep, hats off to cecelia, she did well!i must admit i really enjoyed this book...actually stayed up until half 3 in the mornin to finish it!now i love my tear-jerkers which is why this lost a star...i was only reeeally moved by the last letter...and yes my eyes welled up but not the tears they're accustomed to in their other old favourites, usually by maeve binchy!! but it was a really good read...although the way the documentary took off is just a tad unrealistic!! anyway...thats my opinion!
Rating: Summary: Enjoyable, a perfect light read Review: Its an enjoyable read if not slightly predicatble. By all accounts there is a movie planned and one can see how the story will adapt to screen. If you have a loved one you have to buy a gift for then this would be a good choice. What I liked about the book is that it's a rare insight into contemporary Ireland as oppossed to some of the worn cliches that tend be depicited in book and film. For that it should be praised. The subtext from her official website, www.ceceliaahern.com, seems to suggest that a sequel is in the pipeline.
Rating: Summary: powerful character study Review: Holly and Gerry met through mutual friends while still in junior high school. They became sweethearts as both recognized that they had met their soul mate. Eventually they married. He promised Holly that if he ever left her, he would leave her with a list. Two months later Gerry is dead. Fifteen plus years from they met, thirty years old Gerry was diagnosed with a brain tumor. A few months after Gerry's death, Holly remains grieving and unable to leave her home. Her mom calls to tell her that she has a package addressed to Holly with the word List above her name. A stunned Holly realizes somehow Gerry marshaled his energy to give her ten months of lists to help regain her equilibrium because he loved her so much he wanted her to live. Now Holly begins to follow Gerry's list with one envelop opened per month as he reaches from beyond the grave to help his beloved return to the living. Title aside even if it is the salutation of each of Gerry's notes, PS, I LOVE YOU is a powerful character study that focuses on grieving and healing. Holly is a fantastic protagonist who begins to mend through the solace provided by Gerry. Her weird family and her best friends provide sympathy, but cannot help her overcome her dread of life without Gerry. The hero is incredible as he knew when he will die and planned accordingly for what he could do to get his cherished Holly out of her depression and mourning and into the light of life. Cecelia Ahern provides a powerful drama that will leave no one dry-eyed. Harriet Klausner
