Summary: One of the greatest read's ever
Review: This book was great, great characters, great story line, and best of all great plot twists. If you liked the other Rielly books this is a must, and if you havent read a Matt Rielly book then you have to read this. I have never been as entertained or absorbed in a story (including previouse Rielly books) as I have been with this book. I read it in like two days and re-read parts just for fun all the time. I have to admit I usually do not like books like this. I am more for military biographies, but when I picked ICE STATION (first book in Schofeild series) I couldn't put it down. Scarecrow was no different. The greatist part for me though was that Rielly introduced a new character who wasn't a marine, he is an ex Delta Force operator. Even though I respect the marine corp I just felt Delta force should have been incorporated in his early books. To summarize, Scarecrow is a exciting thrillride with nonstop action and nonstop excitment. A must read for any one who shops in the fiction section.

Summary: Lots of Action, but Little Plot
Review: This is the first book I read from Mathew Reilly, and after reading the dust jacket I was really excited about the book. The idea of a bounty hunt worth hundreds of millions of dollars and a secret council of rich tycoons masterminding the entire event sounded really exciting.

I was hoping for a novel that would compare with Forsyth or Le Carre and I was ultimately disappointed. Scarecrow tended to read like a comic book with Shane Schofield constantly engaged in completely over the top chases and shootouts. These occur with such frequency that they start to become boring because all the reader wants is for the plot to unfold. Initially the plot has potential to be complex and griping, but after the first few bits are revealed it becomes very transparent. Additionally, it is difficult to feel connected to the characters because the are all totally FLAT. Ultimately, it did not matter in my mind what happended to the different individuals in the book because Reilly spends almost no time developing his characters.

In short, the book has too much comic book style action and not enough on character an plot development. If you like the other authors mentioned above try something else, like one from Daniel Silva or Clive Cussler.

Summary: READ WITH ON-TARGET ARTICULATION
Review: U.S. Marine Corp Captain Shane Schofield gives added dimensions to the term action hero, and Scott Somers gives our champion vibrant, death-defying voice. He reads with vitality and on-target articulation.

In his latest adventure Schofield is the target - he's on a hit list along with fifteen others, fighting men all - commandoes, spies, terrorists. Each must be stone cold dead by noon on a specific day. And, the price on their heads is a hefty one - $20 million per.

We may take "price on their heads" literally, as the head must be exchanged for the multi bucks. What a prize for bounty hunters! They come from all corners of the world hoping to cash in on this. They're the lowest of the low, the worst of the worst, including the dreaded "Black Knight" who isn't greedy - he only wants Schofield.

It's a mad, exciting race to the finish as Schofield fights not only for his life but to discover what murderous international cabal is behind this evil plot.

Summary: Long live the Scarecrow!
Review: When I finally heard that Scarecrow was released in the States, I just had to get it. I've read Ice Station and Area 7 and I was sure Scarecrow would be just as good. Yet I was wrong....Scarecrow is actually ABSOLUTELY THE BEST!!!!! Reilly is amazing! Just as I was thinking how could he possibly top off the first two Shane Schofield novels I was blown away by how much detail, action, entertainment, and raw human emotion was in this book. The first two books Scarecrow targeted others, and that was a fun ride. Now that he's the one being targeted, Scarecrow's mind goes into overdrive and takes the reader to new heights. So many twists in the novel that you would not know what to expect next. You would expect one thing but then immediately that theory would be shot to hell. And Reilly even manages to throw in some of today's current events into the novel to give the plot some realism and manged to blend it all in beautifully and crisply. The great thing about Scarecrow is you don't have to read the previous Scarecrow novels (although it would be good in order to understand some of the small references made to past events into Scarecrow's life, also why wouldn't you want to read the first two novels?????!!!) and the human emotion displayed in this book is raw and very heartfelt. There are few action novels that have that. Overall Scarecrow is absolutely THE BEST Shane Schofield novel to date. I cannot wait until Reilly puts out the next one. Matt keep up the great work and keep us readers happy! LONG LIVE THE SCARECROW!
