Rating: Summary: Pompous, preachy fathead Review: I don't know what it is that makes Americans flock to "Tell-it-like-it-is" Demagoguery. The loudest, pushiest, and more self-assured person is not always right (and usually isn't). It is okay, in fact it is encouraged, that you actually think for yourselves. What gets my goat about this guy and his book is how important he thinks he is. I saw him on "Meet the Press," and, not giving it a second thought, he proceeded to list the top three journalist in the US, himself on the top of the list. Gimme a break. And "How to create my own no-spin-zone in life?" Thank you, Bill. But I think I can manage on my own, believe it or not. No objectivity and shoddy research delivered by an egotistic demagogue: Fortunately enough for him, I guess he has that "sassy" Rush Limbaugh kind of attitude that makes people buy into it. A Self-Help book and a combination "Pat-Bill-on-The-Back" book. Doesn't this guy have something better to do?
Rating: Summary: O'Reilly is dangerous Review: Bill has a good show, I will give him that. But he is a demagogue of the worst kind. He professes to be spin free and surmounts power on that premise. He knows that people are fed up with mishaps in Washington and abroad, then he uses that to gain power. He has power because he is able to persuade people to his point of view. One cannot ignore his conservative viewpoint, but it infuriates me when he says he his spin free. I was dizzy after the first chapter! I would be just as upset if a liberal claimed to be spin free and spun left ideology in the name of truth. If you like to be manipulated then read this book, or read it and debunk the rhetoric.
Rating: Summary: Mr. O'Reily brings to mind that classic Woody Allen line: Review: 'Commentary and dissent have merged to form dysentery.' Now we have a network shill devoted to its spread.
Rating: Summary: honest, courageous, down to earth reports Review: The book presents important issues that face America, issues like abuse of power by influential people, lack of ethics in a society, corruption, biased control of information, demoralization and brainwashing of the children, hypocrisy in politics and so on. I am glad that Mr. O'reilly captured these issues on a paper for the second time. He is a voice for those who are unheard and mocked by the corrupted ones. I am a great fan of his style of presenting the facts and down to earth information. He is one of a few people I have a lot of respect for in the media and probably the only one who is not afraid to challenge the powerful. I often say to myself that that's exactly how I feel and what concerns me about issues in a society. I know that in the long run, Mr. O'reilly will be seen as a model in a journalism sector and history will judge him as honest reporter. I recommend the book because I believe it touches on important issues and provides a clear understanding of how the system works in America.
Rating: Summary: All Spin, All the time Review: Like all good politicians, Mr O'Reilly has taken care of the tough part in the title. Frankly I am tired of public people saying something which is the sound bit when in reality what is said is completely different. This book is the opinions of a christian conservative. Which is fine. These opinions are clearly articulated by a man who has has obviously struck a nerve with people who are sympathetic to his view (Frankly his show seems to ratcheting off into the weird...I really dont care about his argueing with hollywood stars and their flacks...Bill you are going in the direction of the tabloids...you made your point on the donations..stay there and dont talk about their agents...refocus on real news) However, I am realistic enough to realize that he and his shows are conservatives...be proud of it and stand up for what you believe...but No Spin??? Roger Ailes at work??? What is opinion if not spin...Mr O'Reilly doesn't give a clearly articulated view from both sides of an issue...he gives his own which unfortunately is sometimes not based in fact and now that he is getting his ego involved is a time sickening...who really cares what George Clooney thinks? Why should I care that George Clooney has an opinion about Bill O'Reilly? and why should I care that Bill O'Reilly has an opinion about George Clooney?...Frankly I dont... I am an American living abroad and watch Fox on Astra and got the book...but it is not news it is comment... Have some truth in advertising.
Rating: Summary: The Book Is Even Beter Than The Show, How Could That Be? Review: I watch Bill because he puts it all out there & doesn't care what people think, when they are not dissecting the actual information that he gives, by way of research & facts. I tape him, even when watching, in case I get interrupted. He sticks up for people & will just as easily bash the left or right, whoever is in the wrong, in the discussion. The book gives me a chance to not have the interference of people "who just DON'T want to GET IT! I don't always agree but am open to the possibility of persuasion. One thing that I would like to see people do in reviewing the book, is actuallly read & review THE BOOK...NOT BILL! -Teri Obermiller, an Independent Thinker
Rating: Summary: Oh! O'Reilly! Review: Why do so many people love Bill O'Reilly, while so many other people hate him? Because Bill O'Reilly isn't shy about sharing his opinion of things. If he thinks you're wrong, he'll spell out for you why he thinks you're wrong. But unlike so many, he'll actually listen to people who disagree with them and give them a chance to persuade him. This book is a collection of interviews from "The O'Reilly Factor," (the TV show, not the book), used to illustrate O'Reilly's points on subjects ranging from Hillary Clinton to NAMBLA. Truthfully, the book would be a better read if there were more writing and less in terms of transcripts, but in all, this book demonstrates what's behind the O'Reilly phenomenon. It seems to me people who are so insecure as to have their viewpoints challenged are those most likely to hate O'Reilly. But those who watch the show, will see that O'Reilly is neither a right-wing nor left-wing extremist. But those who are unable to see the world in any other way are those who make up his detractors. Bill O'Reilly also goes after people who are full of it! If you're convinced your viewpoint on things is the only valid one, then you're not someone who will enjoy this book. For you a blank journal in which you can indulge yourself with your thoughts may be a better buy.
Rating: Summary: O'Reilly Smash Review: Bill O'Reilly reminds me of the Incredible Hulk. He started off sane, intelligent, and relatively civil. These days, he's a thundering force on a rampage. It's too bad. I'm not a conservative, but I used to find O'Reilly insightful and original. I felt the same way about Rush Limbaugh when he was still on the rise. But like Rush, success has gone to Bill's head. These days he just wants to talk about how important he is, and whine about why nobody wuvs him. I realize I'm writing a review more of Bill than of the book. But they're interchangeable. Like so many talk-show host tomes, this isn't really a book at all, just an extension of a media franchise. If you still like O'Reilly, you'll like the book. If you don't like O'Reilly, you won't like the book. But it's hard to imagine anyone at all being even slightly surprised by so much as a syllable of the book. It is exactly what you'd expect.
Rating: Summary: Better than I expected Review: Being middle of the road with a slight right leaning I have watched Mr O'Reilly's show on FOX but it wasn't until I heard him interviewed on KGO Radio in San Francisco by Ronn Owens that I was moved to take a look at his book. Surprisingly the man is rare in that he is at least consistent, which in my opinion is sorely lacking these days. He is also radically honest and doesn't play politically correct games, but asks the questions that many wonder about as well as the questions most interviewers steer clear of. I like his in your face or at least "don't BS" me attitude which comes thru in his writings. While I still do not agree with some of his views I respect him a great deal because he at least is who he presents himself to be. And I find myself agreeing with him more and more. And the fact his show as of 12-02 is the #1 cable show speaks volumes. In fact the New York Times noted in and article the last week of December 02 that the Democrats see his and Rush Limbaughs ratings and viewer/listener numbers and are fretting that they cant find a liberal who can do what O'Reilly and other conservative hosts are doing. O'Reilly and the others I admire have something else the liberals do not. They know how to listen as well as hear what others say, and they don't play the whine game!
