Summary: Don't waste your time!
Review: This book is so horrible, it's hard to believe that John Grisham could have written it. The storyline is unbelievably
implausible and very poorly written. Someone decides to take a cruise over the Christmas holidays and not decorate; hmmmmmmm. This is a reason for the Spanish Inquisition. The entire neighborhood is up in arms; yep, it happens every Christmas, doesn't it? I really like Grisham's other books but this one is just plain stupid!

Summary: Delightful Christmas Story
Review: This is a Christmas story with an unusal twist. It has a hillarious ending and has a lot to say on many levels. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Summary: The status quo
Review: The only reason I can think of that this book is a best-seller is that it has John Grisham's name on it. I usually steer clear of best-sellers, anything recommended by Oprah, etc. since I usually do not like most of the books that appeal to the masses, but the storyline of this book compelled me to at least check it out of the library (thank god I didn't buy it) and give it a try.

First of all, although the story seems like a cute idea, the situations that play out are ridiculous, but not so over-the-top that one could tell if it was meant as satire (and from an interview I saw with Grisham , it didn't seem that it was). The characters are flat, none of them seem to have any depth or real emotion whatsoever. Furthermore, none of them even have enough of a personality for me to like them or hate them, so throughout the book, I couldn't help but feeling that I couldn't care less what happened to these people.

Although the characters didn't provoke much of a response from me, the culture they represented did. Unfortunately it depicts everything I hate about living in a suburb of Boston (although I am sure it is the same for most suburbs across the US). Most of the homogenous people who live there are selfish, petty, too concerned with money, and spoil their kids rotten; and this book seems to be written with them in mind, not just as a subject, but as an audience. The ending of the book makes an attempt at redeeming these people, but it is unbelievable at best, and leaves me feeling that no real epiphany (excuse the pun) has taken place, and that these people will be right back to their old ways on the 26th.

Although this short book doesn't take long to read, save your time and money and try something from someone whose last name isn't Grisham, Roberts, or Sparks. You may be pleasantly surprised.

Summary: Not your typical Grisham thriller, but a great read...
Review: This won't keep you guessing and wondering who's guilty-- or not-- and how the plot will unfold. You pretty much figure it out within the first few pages. Then, again, what's most captivating about this tale is not what the people (the Kranks) do-- but that they even do it at all! And, it something we wish we could do-- if we're honest. Skip Christmas!?!?

In the line of Charles Dickens (even the names of the people reflect who they are-- think, Krank, Scrooge, Tom Thumb...), Grisham weaves this little story (short enough to read in one sitting, long enough to allow you to read a chapter a night before bed) that takes us not only through the actual act of skipping Christmas (in a way), but takes us through the pyschology of it as well. We feel-- and identify-- with the tensions of money spent, good gifts given and bad gifts received, parties no one wants to go to but needs to show out for anyway, etc...

Oddly enough, the quirky story is a small mirror that reveals much to you (if you'll admit it, and wrestle with it) about the condition of your own soul.

Summary: Fun-filled easy read
Review: Read this fun-filled book if you have a few days. It's lighthearted, funny and gets you back into the Christmas mood! I definately reccomend it to anyone of all ages!

Summary: John Grisham impersonates John Irving and John Updike
Review: Well,Well,Well if it isn;t John Grisham doing an excellent impersonation of John Irving and John Updike!!
Humorous, witty and fun to booth and there isn't a Mississippi courthouse in sight!
Only trouble is that it's very short by grisham's standards and only good for 2 hours on the beach.
Still well worth a buy.

Summary: Decency forbids me to relate how I really feel.....
Review: I hate to give a bad review, but I am bound by honesty to say that this is the worst, most frustrating book I've read in quite some time. I picked it up, humbug that I am, thinking "Finally, someone who understands that Christmas is a lot of commercial nonsense" I was disappointed to find that the characters (including the main characters) were a perfect stereotype of everything I hate about America. Bear in mind that this review is based on partial knowledge. I didn't read the whole book, as I became so angry with the characters' stupidity around chapter fifteen that I hurled the book across the room. I picked it up later and read the last few pages. The story resolves nicely, and, for some, the tension before the release might prove an effective literary tool, but, as I said, I despised everything about these chracters and could bear no more.

Review: what a fabulous book. would certainly become a great movie. I thoroughly enjoyed it from the very first page to the last.

The book highlights the materialism of american christmas, and truly hightlights the amount of money that is spent on christmas because of the hype created by people all around you,.

The Kranks a really funny couple decides to skip christmas and get away from the madness of it all. It truly shows the resistance that they have to all the fancies around them. But something more than their own enjoyment pops up in the last minute and they decide to do christmas on christmas day. This shows the greatest sacrifice our parents always end up making for us children.

Very touching book and very funny. Guys if ur feeling down buy this book. Lots to learn in there

Summary: No Good...
Review: This book is not up to John Grishman quality. Although it was actually interesting throughout the first 3/4 of the book, after that it really tapers off. The last part of the book really drops off and makes it worse.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Short and Funny
Review: Great book, lite and funny!
