Rating: Summary: Just what everyone needs to hear Review: I absolutely love John Grisham! I loved his lawyer books and I like the way he's turning spiritual now. And this one is even better than hislast one...seems he just gets better and better. I read this in three days and loved it! It has put new perspective on what's really important for the christmas season. It's definitely one of the best books of the year and I think everyone should read it. I love John Grisham and I hope he keeps writing books for a long long time!
Rating: Summary: Skipping Christmas Review: Skipping Christmas is a big departure from the legal thrillers that John Grisham is noted for. Having read this book in a day, it was the perfect length. The humerous story begins as Luther Krank totals up his last year's expenses on Christmas, $6100! So his wife and he decide to take a Carribean cruise, saving money. As they are questioned and ridiculed by neighbors and friends, the Kranks are determined to stick to their plan. Hopefully, you will be able to experience this novel and see what comes when a couple decide to skip Christmas
Rating: Summary: All I want for Christmas... Review: ...is to be able to skip it.Who hasn't said one time or another something to the effect of "next year, let's keep it simple...let's go away for Christmas without family and friends." John Grisham's "Skipping Christmas" is a fantastic, light-hearted story about how we all feel every Christmas...rushed and broke. This pleasant and quick-to-read tale is a MUST for anyone who needs to take some time out during the holidays for a little bit of "brain candy." I took this book with me on vacation with me last week and was able to read it within a day. Grisham is a comedian, it's a nice breath of fresh air. Everyone should read it...because in the end there's a positive message ringing to the tune of "this is what Christmas is really all about."
Rating: Summary: a nice quick read Review: I thought the book was funny and a very nice read. It's only 177 pages and I was able to read it over the weekend. It's one of those books you start and can't stop. Very enjoyable.
Rating: Summary: Laughed till I cried! Review: As I am reading , laughing out loud, with tears streaming down my face, and then experiencing uncontrollable outbursts of giggling between reading the chapters as I thought about the story, my husband was asking "is it really THAT funny"? My answer is yes. I thought so.I found it to be the healthiest thing I could do for myself during this hectic time of the year. I found the ending quite touching and sweet. To those who ruined the surprise by divulging what they called a "predictable ending" shame on you. It was delightful.
Rating: Summary: Skipping Christmas is so funny Review: My wife and I both enjoyed this book a great deal. It was very entertaining for us to listen to. We listened to the CD audio edition of the book. I would recommend it to anyone who likes a comedy about Christmas. The book actually turns out quite good, and almost made us cry in the end. We are buying copies for our family to read before Christmas!
Rating: Summary: Grisham meets Dickens meets... Don't skip this! Review: John Grisham's "Skipping Christmas" shows he is more than an author of legal thrillers. As a fan of "The Pelican Brief," I wondered if he could pull off a Christmas book. He has pulled it off. "Skipping Christmas" is not Charles Dickens. Still, he grabs at the reader to consider the important of Christmas, and jabs at the superficiality of the typical Christmas protocols. Never disregarding the true values of Christmas, Grisham wields his pen through a terrific tale of parody and fiction, so close to the reality many of us face durinf the holiday season. So, as you rush out to the mall to buy the sausage sampler for your Uncle Lou, dropping by the hardware store for some outlet multipliers for your tree lights, pick up a copy of "Skipping Christmas." I fully recommend "Skipping Christmas." Anthony Trendl
Rating: Summary: Skipping Christmas Review: Mr. Grisham has dipped into the heart of the American psyche and created what is destined to be a future Christmas classic. Laced with wry humour and filled with genuine warmth, Skipping Christmas is a fun read. I thoroughly enjoyed this delightful short work. and eagerly await a film treatment, as I am sure (if produced true to the writing) it will easily rival "A Christmas Story". Congratulations, Mr. Grisham - and thanks for the holiday treat! Especially this year, I needed that.
Rating: Summary: Good Quick Christmas read. Review: John Grisham has been one of my favorite author's over the years. The story of this book is something that a lot of people would want to do. Skip Christmas Luther and Nora are a typical family. Taking a lot of time to celebrate Christmas and later regretting it. Luther at times in this book seem to get a little bit out of hand with the whole idea of skipping chrismas. Overall the best parts of the book were the Frosty parts and of couse I loved the last 50 or so pages of the book. This was a good quick read.
Rating: Summary: Unworthy of toilet paper. Review: This is the most meandering, unimaginative, vomit inducing "novel" that I have ever been forced to endure. I say force for my goodnatured parents found a loophole for enforcing cruel and unusual punishment and it is "Skipping Christmas" by John (...) Grisham.I can denouce this book even after having read "Nothing but the Truth". It's about some whiny simp named Luther Krank who hates christmas and loves white chocalte (...). Nothing more should be said about this repetive plot and Grisham's writing style which is about as imaginative as a manuel for a dishwasher. (...)
