Rating: Summary: Dorothy Hong Review: His stories evoke a wide-range of sentiments. I am swayed by his accounts and think that he has the ability to make America a safer place just as he has done in his legal career.
Rating: Summary: A touching book from start to finish Review: I am not by any means an avid reader. I enjoy reading a good book from time to time, and this is one. It was recommended by a friend and I simply can't thank them enough. It was not only fascinating to read, but also inspired me to become more politically involved in the Democratic caucus in my state. This inspiration did not come from political talk in the book, but rather from my general interest in this man and everything he has to offer.
Rating: Summary: Compelling Stories Review: I couldn't put this book down. It has interesting insights to major court cases with the drama of these trials told in very human terms. It also really tells the reader a lot about the character of John Edwards. He is a great family man and a lawyer with heart. A quick, easy read that is worth your time.
Rating: Summary: From P-I-L to president? Review: I don't know - somehow a being a career personal injury lawyer (we call them ambulance chasers up here in Virginia) doesn't seem a decent qualififcation to be president. I thought I would find his book illuminating, and point in some way to what some see as presidential material. He spins a good yarn (with help from his co-author) but in the end, he's just another P I L. I'd just as soon vote for Lowell "THE HAMMER" Stanley. Sorry folks.
Rating: Summary: This is the man who can beat bush in 2004 Review: I have just begun senator Edwards book. I have met the Senator on several occasions, read everything I can get my hands on about him, watched every interview and every debate in which he has participated...and can only say that I fully understand WHY the republican party fought so hard, and at great cost..to no avail...to stop him from defeating the incumbent republican senator in North Carolina. THIS is the man they truly fear..not howard dean! He can go toe to toe with Bush, and speak to the moderate, and the undecided, and the disinfranchised..and win the presidency in '04! What I have read so far of this book, speaks volumes as to the man's character, integrity, intelligence, and humanity. He is a man for our time..and troubled times they are. Read on!! And VOTE!
Rating: Summary: Amazing! Review: I have never read a book that was written by a politician because they all seem to contain the same old "I love my country and want to serve it" rhetoric. This book is completely different. Even though he wrote this after being elected to the Senate, John Edwards mentions it only briefly. Instead, he focuses on his years as a lawyer and the four cases he felt defined his career. With each case, he leads you through the opening statements to jury deliberation like a great legal thriller. I could not put the book down. What's even more touching, however, is how much personal information he reveals, from his working-class upbringing to the tragic death of his son. Clearly, John Edwards is a different type of politician and this country is lucky to have him. A definite must-read!
Rating: Summary: This Guy Is Running For President? Review: I have to admit that I expected the regular political junk from this book, but this guy really can write. It's not a "morning in america " kind of thing -- there's no boring politics. It's just a plain old good roaring read. More like Baldacci or other legal thrillers than "man from hope" self-serving junk. I'm not so sure about this guy's politics (I'm a republican myself) but it doesn't matter. If you expect an overview of the Clean Air act or something, you can forget it. The stories in this book really hooked me. I'm still amazed that they are real.
Rating: Summary: Just a PR attempt to get your vote Review: I live in NC, and I've been wondering what John Edwards has been doing lately besides running for president. Nice to know that he writes well, but that's all. He has done nothing while senator for NC than run for president. What a disappointment he has been to this state.
Rating: Summary: A man of compassion and commitment Review: I read John Edwards book in one evening, and could not put it down. Although a Kerry/Edwards supporter, I was not enthusiastic about John Edwards before reading his book. Now I am.
Four Trials is not a political book, and although Edwards shares about his life, it is not primarily a personal autobiography. It is about four personal injury suits he dedicated himself to day and night as a lawyer, his deep caring for his clients and anger about their (often terrible) injuries or losses, the obstacles he faced, and how he won. It is also about his love for his own family, and his near-paralyzing grief when his beloved son Wade died in a car accident in 1996 - and how fighting for compensation for a young girl who was disemboweled by an unsafe pool suction drain helped bring him back to life despite his grief, and direct his pain and outrage to a constructive cause.
It is a book of heart and soul, the book of a dedicated public servant who as a lawyer let nothing get in the way of his caring for people who suffer needlessly as a result of negligence and downright indifference of institutions dedicated to profit, and his commitment to helping them win in court so they could pay lifelong medical costs and survive.
Did he make money doing so? Yes. But was money a primary source of motivation? Read his book, and decide for yourself. If you have any doubts about genuineness of John Edwards, or that he is the best man out there to be our vice president, read his book. Even if you don't have doubts, read this book. It will touch your heart. It will help you believe again that there are politicians out there who truly our committed to helping people in real need and changing the direction of this country.

Rating: Summary: "Presidential grace"!! Review: I read John Edwards' book with great interest. I loved it, and read it again!! I urge republicans, democracts and independents, alike, to read this book. You will be riveted from start to finish. These are great human interest stories, to be sure, but more than that, these stories, as told by Edwards, give the reader such insight into this candidate's character, mind, and values. I can only dream of a debate between John Edwards and the current occupant of the White House on these values and on the direction the country should be taking! He(Edwards) will face his largest , and toughest jury, the American public...and given the the choice, I believe with all my heart, they will rule in his favor. He SHOULD be the next President of these United States! I hope I get the chance to vote for him! Oh, and one more thing. For those "doubting Thomases" who think being a trial lawyer does not qualify a person to be President, I need only to remind them, that one of our greatest presidents was, in fact, a trial lawyer.....Abraham Lincoln!
