Rating: Summary: Excellent!!! Great!!! Fabulous!!! Stupendous!!!` Review: I received this book as a Christmas present from my girlfriend. I couldn't put it down! I love it!! This is an absolutely fantastic book!! Great pictures!! Excellent stories!! David Lee is correct when he say's, "that anyone who has ever seen a Van Halen concert is forever changed" or something to that effect. (Who I am I anyway?? Kreskan??) Excellent work, Dave!! P.S. - I was at the Anaheim show!! What a great entrance!!!
Rating: Summary: Eye-opening, but no tell-all. Review: Hard core VH fans may be dissapointed but Roth tells it like it is, at least from his perspective. Good to hear the other side of the story of the VH-1 Awards fiasco. Ed VH makes it all Dave's problem when it seems that Ed's ego and control-freakism probably derailed (hopefully only temporarily!!) the greatest reunion in rock history! I was in Germany for the '78 Sabbath tour and VH blew them away, Sabbath was nearly booed off the stage after the "Opening Act" was through! Hopefully someday cooler heads AND egos will prevail!
Rating: Summary: CLASS ACT Review: If there was ever a bible for hip and cool this is it.ROTH proves, white men can jump ala`drum risers to dirt-DAVE...!This book defines style. Here's to you DAVE,- "YOU DID DO IT RIGHT".
Rating: Summary: David Lee Roth's Crazy from the Heat is a Must Read Review: Being a fan of Diamond Dave, I eagerly awaited the arrival of "Crazy from the Heat" from Amazon. The wait was very much worth it. In this whirlwind biography, Dave proves why he is considered the greatest showman in rock and roll. His stories of the road and his dedication to his craft are inspirational. How many other singers would take the time to scrub the floor of the stage before a concert tour? I would recommend "Crazy from the Heat" to anyone who is a rock music fan and especially those of us who admire Mr. Roth because it shows the human side of him that many of us have not seen. There is depth of character revealed in his interactions with ordinary people and in his travels as a "Jungle Stud." I think that it is a reflection of David's maturity that he has not taken the opportunity in his autobiography to make derogatory comments about Van Halen or any other of his business associates. If you want to read about the David Lee Roth band or the mudslinging with Van Halen, I can provide you with copies of articles on those subjects. But if you're wanting to learn more about the greatest front man in rock music, then "Crazy from the Heat" is a must-read.
Rating: Summary: DIAMOND DAVE RULES! Review: From the cover to the contents to the body of the book is all first class! It reads like a a Huck Finn book and Diamond Dave tells it like he walks it! Excellent Book & F@$#$ Ed VH!!!
Rating: Summary: Looking for the inside scoop? It's not here Review: Being a major fan of DLR ("Eat 'Em & Smile" still blows away anything VH has released since "1984") and classic VH, I looked forward to reading Dave's book. Talk about a major disappointment. If you're looking for interesting stories involving Dave and the rest of VH or the DLR band, they're not here; I guess there just weren't any worthwhile times involving these people worth recounting (or Dave's pulling his punches.) Want information regarding anything recorded between VHII and 1984? It's also conspicuously absent. Where's the substance? We get more information on Dave's Vegas band (who really cares?) than VH and the DLR band combined. If that's what you're into, great. If not, "Forget about it, Dave."
Rating: Summary: A little ain't enough Review: I was expecting a little different book. A little more sex drugs and rock-n-roll. I did find the story telling to be very intriguing. This is a must read for any classic VH fan. Diamond Dave lets down his gaurd and takes you free wheelin with him all over the world. By the end of the book you really start to understand Dave. He really hasn't changed that much after all.
Rating: Summary: Read 'Em and Smile - DLR as Modern American Realist Author Review: What the world needs now is the uncomprimising attitude and honest to goodness soul of Crazy from the Heat. This collection of superactive storytelling is taylor made for fans of energized, disjoined references like those of Mark Leyner, made all the more shocking, 'cause they're true! DLR keeps things moving right along, mostly with the top down, but the most compelling moments come from his early self portrait and the dynamics of his body of work, both musical and behavioral. The recent dispute with Van Halen is minimized both in column inches and by comparison to the loyalty and friendship he describes with folks like "Big Ed". As in the title track of Roth's 1991 release "A Little Ain't Enough", "There's a function at the juncion". In this case the juction is Amazon and the funtion is "Crazy From the Heat".
Rating: Summary: Informal tale of Hard Rock's King!! Review: Exciting story of Diamond Dave's life. My only negative comment would be the use of poor grammar.
