Summary: 12 Days on the Road
Review: If you are in any way rotten this is a book for you. None of the Pistols claim to remember those twelve days very well. Neither would the average bear if the difference between chicken soup an vomit become a blur. Glad we have Noel Monk to remember for them. Selective amnesia is common in any business, but especially so in this rock hard business. Thanks Noel... The true fan will want to put this twelve shooter in his arsenal.

Summary: Garbage
Review: Look at this: a book written by an illiterate Roadie and a pretentious unemployed journalist, Oh goodie.

This book reads like a myth-ridden fairy tale written by two broke idiots who have tried to spin a spider web dispite a lack of material. Why weren't any of the original band members themselves referenced? it's obvious that the authors had no idea what they where talking about as there were many biases and unresolved conflicts expressed in the text. Anyone who takes this book seriously is just another lemming who deserves to jump of a 200 foot cliff to his/her deaths.

Read Lydon's "No Irish.." or Savage's "England's Dreaming.." for a closer look at the truth.

Summary: Funny, interesting, and a great resource for fans
Review: Since Noel Monk was actually on the tour with the Sex Pistols in the US, this book is full of first hand incidents and conversations. Not to mention the fantastic pictures included. If you are a Sid Vicious and/or a Sex Pistol fan, this is a must have!

Summary: 12 Days in Rock and Roll
Review: The Pistols' disintegration during its US tour had taken its place in the annals of rock and roll some time ago, and this book is just one examination of it. Written by an eyewitness/accessory, Noel Monk, TWELVE DAYS ON THE ROAD WITH THE SEX PISTOLS IN AMERICA, is an attempt to chronicle the mess. Whether you loved the Pistols (as I did) or loathed them, there is no overstating the band's importance in saving rock and roll from itself. But that redemption came at a price, as this book shows. Exploited by the record label, mismanaged by everyone, preyed upon by publicity hounds, and too young to defend itself, Mr. Monk makes it plain that the band was doomed from the very moment they landed in America.

But like all "Great Moments in Rock and Roll", history blurs with legend, and sometimes the book provokes skepticism. On the other hand, the book demonstrates a lot of sincerity, and the photos are well worth the price of the book. It's a quick read of a significant moment, not just in punk history, but in the history of rock.

Summary: How much I love this book by Stacy Bergin
Review: The Sex Pistols were one of the fore-fathers of punk rock in the U.K. This book chronicles the chaos and anarchy that ensued on their failed 1978 tour of America. From Johnny Rotten and Sid Vicious getting their first taste of America's police, to Paul Cook and Steve Jones' beautifully obscene appearence on a local radio show, this book tells it all. It even has a "Where are they now" part in the back. This book is the closest anyone will ever get to hearing of the Sex Pistols tour. I wasn't born yet, (not until 1982), and I felt as if I was right there with them, because the book engrosses you. It's a definite page turner, one that you just can't put down, because you're always wondering about something. "Is Sid going to die of withdrawl?" "Will Paul kill himself?" "Is Johnny going to blow up in everyone's face?" "Is Sid ever going to bathe?" It's all here. I recommend it highly

Summary: Terrible
Review: This book is horrible. Previous to this I read "Lydon 's Rotten- No Irish....". This book contradicts Lydons account in so many ways and it was written by the roadie with absolutely no help from the band. Some of it is absolutely ridiculous. For instance, the section where sid and jonny first encounter american cops who harrass them and the book says something like "the pistols had never seen anything like this in england" and the guys got really scared and believed that the cops were going to shoot them. Give me a break! There are no jerk cops in england????? I highly doubt that. And the way the story makes such a hero out of the road manager... Who cares? Gee whiz, he made it through 12 whole days with the pistols.... and wrote a crappy book about it much less!!! This book also never finalizes quite a few issues. I completely agree with the other 1 star review on this page. Avoid this book.

Summary: Easy reading
Review: This is a very fast read. Since Monk was actually on the tour with the Pistols, it's interesting to get a first hand account of what went on during this brief tour. Many of the reviewers here question the truthfullnes here, citing contradicitons brought up in Lydon's book. True, however, when reading biographies, especially those of musicians/entertainers, always remember that there are three sides to every story: the writer's, the subject's and the truth.

Summary: The Best Sex Pistols Book.
Review: This is by far the best Sex Pistols book there is. I have read them all and in this book you learn alot about the internal workings of the band and descover some things you may have not known. Also the best Sid Vicious book is: "Sid Vicious, Rock 'N Roll Star".

Summary: I'll take the bus, please
Review: To start, a thoroughly enjoyable read. When reading about a band like the Pistols, one must beware as there are certain caveats. The main being that most of the literature written was by authors who did not know the Pistols. They weren't there! This book was (co)written by Monk. He was there for those 12 days with Sid, Johnny and, to a lesser extent, Paul and Steve.

However, to be fair, this book has the events unfolding as Noel Monk saw them - there are facts in here that John Lydon disputes in his book 'Rotten' and there are also facts that Lydon would never have known (Monk knew far more than anyone about the whole Tom Forcade deal).

Enjoy this book, it's one mans' version of what went on. Read the other literature and make a balanced judgement.
