Summary: Outstanding as a College Text
Review: As a college professor I use Dr. Jones' book as one of the required texts for management courses. Students' responses were enthuisastic with end of the term comments such as, "the best book used in the Master's Degree" and "great hands on advice for managers". The emphasis on the dysfunctional nature of organizations provides the reader with realistic insight into the challenges facing most organizations desiring to make positive changes. Dr. Jones' book provides a unique understanding of the personal and professional nature of the problems which grow out of proportion in a dysfunctional organization. More than identifying the stages of the problem, the author provides practical solutions to move organizations to a higher level of effectiveness. All students said, "this is one book that will stay in my library for future reference".

Summary: Workplace dysfunction: more common than you realise!
Review: During my long working career I have partcipated in numerous courses, got advice from the best consultants and read lots of complicated theories. This is the first book that gives clear and practical advice to identify and solve the problems of an dysfunctional organization. I recommend Jones's book warmly to everyone who is interested in improving the quality of the activity of his organization.

Summary: If It's Broken, You Can Fix It
Review: Excellent book for the OD professional and the manager alike. In his usual very effective style, Dr. Jones' "lessons" are very readable, practical, and understandable, with just the right mix of humor, metaphors and stories. His use of actual experiences serve to effectively demonstrate the "real-life" usefulness and value of the techniques he describes. Every organization experiences dysfunction, to one degree or another, and can, therefore, benefit from the guidance Dr. Jones provides in this book.

Summary: A book with true meaning and use in today's environment
Review: Having been in the corporate world for over thirty years, I can relate to many of the wisdoms in Mr. Jones' writings. The concise methodology used is easy to understand and implement. To apply these principles throughout those 30 years would have made my life much simpler. Kudos to Tom Jones for shedding true light on dysfunction in such a straightforward and yet humorous way, and his way of fixing the problems that do exist.

Summary: Lightbulb ON!
Review: I believe that any reader will easily recognize the corporate situations that the author describes - it's the stuff we live with every day at work. The "aha!" comes along with the author's insightful discussions of HOW and WHY these situations come to exist, and why they are so very frustrating. But the best part is the practical "here's what you can do about it" discussions. This book shows you how you can have some impact, how these situations can be addressed constructively.

Summary: Dealing with disfunction
Review: It's so obvious, I don't know why someone didn't think of it before. But nobody did until Tom Jones wrote it down. Disfunctional people go to work; disfunctional workplaces result. In today's environment with the children of broken homes, and their parents, coming into the workplace; with people who have a hard time connecting with other people, managers can look over the situation and throw up their hands in despair or they can figure out how to make it work. Tom Jones helps us with the latter option. He offers practical advice on how to identify the particular disfunctions of your own work place, and how to change the disfunctional systems so that everyone, disfunctional or not, can survive and get the job done. This is a practical, how-to manual with enough insight into the psychology of disfunction, but doesn't overwhelm you with theory, to make the solutions work. You can't change the people, so change the systems.
