Rating: Summary: Cute Romantic Manga Review: "Marmalade Boy" is a cute little free spirited romance.... But not the most creative thing. The art is cute, but ordinary. Anyway, besides that, it's pretty cute and a fun little romance. The story line isn't the best, but the charecters are nice. I also like the fashions and the style. I do suggest it if you are looking for a nice Frieday read to kick back with, but I don't suggest it if you are looking for this really creative book full of amazing fashions. (I suggest Paradise Kiss if you're looking for that type of thing.) Anyway, it is pretty cute, and would look pretty nice in any comic collection. -Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: One of the best shoujo series ever! Review: A lot of people compare Marmalade Boy to a soap opera, and I understand why, but I think that gives a slightly wrong impression. There *is* an enormous love polygon in this series, but instead of being shallow and nonsensical like a soap, the relationships in Marmalade Boy are true to life. This series touches on topics that so many other love stories gloss over: problems getting along with one's family, the complicated feelings people have about their friends, envy, the importance of trust, and the difficulty of a couple staying together when everyone seems to want to tear them apart. I don't want to make it sound like Marmalade Boy is full of angst; it has it's share, but it's full of laughs as well. It's light but deep at the same time. The characters are well-rounded, but take some time to get to know. I prefer the anime to the manga (coming soon from TOKYOPOP as well ^_^), but out of all the shoujo manga I've read, this series is one of the best.
Rating: Summary: An Exciting Book to Read and Keep Review: After I read this mind gripping book, I couldn't stop! I'm trying to get a hold of the other books after this one, because it just makes you want to read more. This book is about a girl who is trapped between her parents getting divorced, a cute step brother, and a nagging boy who rejected her years ago. As she deals with all this, she finds herself getting to know her step brother, Yuu, better. I can't wait until I read the rest of this series!!! I am so going to convince my mom/dad to get all the Marmalade Boy books! Oh yeah, there are 8 books in the series. If you're really hooked on Marmalade Boy, you can buy their epidodes. It's called Marmalade Boy Ultimate Scrapbook, Volume 1. There are 76 episodes total, but for now, they have only made episodes 1 through 19 in a boxed set of 3 dvd's. It's $84.99 (only at Amazon.com) I hope this helps you, and I hope you will grow to love Marmalade Boy as much as I do. ;)
Rating: Summary: Begin the roller coaster ride! Review: And what a ride Marmalade Boy is! This series is long but the manga moves pretty quickly. You'll fall in love with all the great characters, especially our main hero and heroine - Yuu and Miki-chan. This series is pure soap opera by the way, with angst and drama by the bucket full. I plan to get them all!
Rating: Summary: Shoujo with Style Review: I am a fan of shoujo (girl's romantic) anime and manga, and this series by Wataru Yoshizumi just blew me away. Not only is the artwork superlative (the best I've ever seen), but the story is unique. Among a wasteland of giant robots, girls with superpowers, etc., Marmalade Boy shines above many other series. The story begins as Miki Koshikawa and her parents are nonchalantly sipping tea together. Mr. and Mrs. Koshikawa say calmly that they're getting a divorce, and that they are basically getting remarried to another couple that they met in Hawaii. Miki is unhappy by this arrangement and even more so after she finds out that the other couple is moving in with her family! Worse yet, she finds out that the other couple has a son named Yuu who is a punky jerk to her. Adding insult to injury, Miki's friend Ginta is trying to rekindle a romance with Miki. Due to a misunderstanding, Miki thought he didn't love her and is surprised when he kisses her and tells her he loves her. What happens next? You'll have to find out in the next manga volume of Marmalade Boy!
Rating: Summary: It's about time!! Review: I have been waiting impatiently for the translated version of Marmalade Boy and I am sooo happy to finally get the first copy! It's great to be able to read the original version and compare with the anime version (mine being fansubbed). For those of you that love this series, I highly recommend you start getting the graphic novels as soon as they come out! Now that the series has been picked up to be sold on DVD in english, there will be more new fans out there that will want anything Marmalade Boy!
Rating: Summary: Marmalade Boy Tastes Pretty Bland Review: I know this is a well-loved and well-reviewed series (how do you think I ended up reading it in the first place?) but my overall assessment is that it doesn't live up to the hype. The reviews and blurbs tout it as a "wacky" romantic comedy but aside from the fact that Miki and Yuu's parents swap partners, which I actually found kinda creepy, it didn't really bring the "wacky" for me. Sure, it's unusual, but the storyline doesn't really go anywhere with it except toward the end which I won't get into since I don't want to spoil anyone. Miki is likeable but her love triangle didn't interest me much. Ginta is her best friend and Yuu is her step-brother but frankly I don't know what she sees in either of them. Ginta is an immature hot-head and Yuu is a mysterious ice-man. Blah. The auther then proceeds to throw in alternate love interests for all three but since I didn't really care enough about them in the first place, who they ended up with didn't matter. The only marginally interesting storyline was Miki's friend Meiko, who has a relantionship with her teacher. Ok, maybe that's kinda creepy too, but it was slightly more interesting than the main plot. Miki's life is full of typical Shojo problems: multiple love-interests, sports, best-friend woes, weird parents, school trips, and part-time jobs. I haven't read tons of manga, but this already felt like a well-worn storyline that just didn't offer anything different enough to catch my interest. Definitely manga lite and suitable for a younger crowd. If your looking for angsty teen romance of a more realistic and dramatic sort I highly recommend Mars by Fuyumi Soryo.
Rating: Summary: Fantabulous! Review: I love graphic novels although I have always been a little hesitant to read manga books (I think it's the pokemon phobia I had when I was younger...) but HOLY COW! I was so hooked to this book that I could not put it down despite the fact that I was incredibly tired. And when it ended I was "NO!!!" and the next morning I rushed to the library to get the second and third books in the series. I will definetly be taking them on vacation to read with me and I highly recommend this book (and most likely the series) to anyone... well mainly anyone that is a girl since there are a couple of corny (yet sweet) moments. I can't wait to find out what happens next!
Rating: Summary: Hooked on Marmalade Boy! Review: I love shojo manga/anime--and so far, Marmalade Boy has to be one of my favorites. The story sets in high school, where a japanese girl by the name of Miki Koishikawa, has her life turned upside down when her parents decided to switch partners with a couple they met while vacationing in Hawaii. To top it all off, that couple has a son her age who is awfully cute. It's a cute teenage romantic soap opera. I like the anime better but the manga is good as well. This is a great buy if you're into romantic reads. The characters are cute as well.
Rating: Summary: Great shojo manga Review: I loved this book! Yoshizumi has a great plot for this series. It's fun to read...you can almost imagine yourself in the character's spot. The series is mostly a romantic comedy, so if you like that genre, you'll love this manga. I highly recomend it. Ja!
