Rating: Summary: Excellent Book Review: The Redwall series fascinates me, and Lord Brocktree also did. I wish the books weren't so short, though . . .
Rating: Summary: This Book Was The Best Of The Series! Review: This book was excellent! Here is the basic plot: At the beginning of the story, the Badger Lord Russano of Salamandastron has finished writing an account of the long-ago battle for Salamandastron, led by Lord Brocktree. The story goes that the father of Brocktree, Lord Stonepaw, is ruling the mountain whilst his son goes questing. However, the evil brother of Verdauga Greeneyes(check out Mossflower for info on him), Ungat Trunn, has set his sights on Salamandastron to use as a fortress for terrorizing the surrounding countryside. Trunn's messenger is turned away, and a few days later, an invasion fleet of warships that stretches as far as the eye can see arrives. Lord Stonepaw and his devoted hares are in desperate need of Brocktree's help. Meanwhile, Brocktree has teamed up with a hare maiden on his journey. They get wind of the invasion and start to round up all the fighting creatures they can find. This leads to an outrageously funny battle with a large, Scottish-sounding hare in order to gain his help. Later, of course, it leads to the climactic battle against Ungat and his troops. This book has everything for a Redwall, fantasy, or book fan. It has humor, battles, rich dialogue and character personalities, and really excellent poetry. All in all, this book is for anyone who likes to read.
Rating: Summary: Very good book and book series. Review: I'm not going to bother to rewrite what so many other have already written about the plot in this book. I've been a big fan of the Redwall books when they were first published in the USA (When was that? 1992? Somewhere there about. I wasn't even in High School yet.) and Brian Jacques in general (I have copies of his "scary stories" books). I bought the hardcover of Redwall but never had a chance to read it when I went on a summer trip to visit relatives I've never even known about. I ended up buying the paperbacks in some backwater town. Since then, I've read and reread the first three novels (Redwall, Mossflower, Mattimeo) so many times that the paperbacks fell apart and I store them in plastic zip-lock bags. I can't bear to throw them away. I now have hard bound editions of all the books in the series. As a 23 year adult who read so many different books, It's a fantastic thing to read a series of books that captured the heart of so many. Although the books as of late don't go in a direction that I want to know about. It would be nice if Brian Jacques elaborates on the history and glory of Malkariss (SP?), Or the story of the very first badger at Salamandastron, Or exactly where, when, and who makes Martin's sword, and I'm positive that I'm not the only one who wishes Jacques would take his characters farther out into the world to meet other and more bizarre creatures. (The creatures tend to be localized around Europe. Ever noticed that there has not been one single skunk, porcupine, penguin, wallaby, or rabbit [not a hare] , etc., etc., in any of his stories?) Nevertheless, the stories are great and will quickly reach the appeal and world wide acceptance that books like Wizard of Oz has long reached. I have every intention of sharing my entire collection with my children (If any) these wonderful, thought provoking stories. I gave Lord Brocktree four stars since Brian Jacques' stories are becoming more and more "detached" from the main thread plot. It's great that he's branching away from the overall Redwall environment and expanding the Redwall universe, I just hope he doesn't stray too far. Since Jacques' more recent stories have a very thin plot attachment to the earlier books.
Rating: Summary: Jacques Best Yet Review: Lord Brocktree is a great novel. If you enjoy animal-tales then this is a book for you. This story takes place mainly on the coast of Salamandastron and in Mossflower forest and country. In the story there is a wildcat named Ungatt Trunn. He and his Blue-Hord have set their sights on conquering the mountain fortress, Salamandastron. The badger, Lord Stonepaw, and the hares of Salamandastron aren't young anymore and the young, restless hares had already left some time ago. It is up to the old hare, Fleetscut, to gather an army to stop the evil wildcat. One part of Fleetscut's journey is when he is being chased by patrol of the Blue-Horde. He trips and falls while running. The next thing he knows he is in a net in a tree and the patrol is slain by squirrels who are scavenging weapons. There is someone else gathering an army. He is a massive badger with a sword as broad as his head, and his father is Lord Stonepaw. His name is Lord Brocktree. This is the badger in Ungatt's nightmares. In Ungatt's nightmares there is a badger that is walking towards him and he tries to find out who he is. Badgers in these Redwall stories are very courageous beasts. In the story Lord Stone paw sacrifices himself to save his hares. "Four he held, with another three trapped in the net, to be swept along with him to the edge of the bottomless pool...With one last war cry, Lord Brocktree of Salamandastron summoned up his final strength and jumped. 'Eulaliiiiiiaaaaaa!' " This is Brian Jacques 13th and best Redwall novel yet, and there will be more to come.
Rating: Summary: YEEEEEEEHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Review: Oh man! I am so thrilled at Brian's new book! He does it again when he ties 3 different happenings together. There is(surprisingly,) no feast! This book happens before Mossflower, and even before Martin the warrior! Read this book now! The greatest book I have read for months!
Rating: Summary: Lord Brocktree:A Masterpiece Review: This is the thirteenth book of the series. It is a very good book.It has war and stuff. If you like Mediaval stuff you'll like this book.
Rating: Summary: Truly Pure Brilliance Review: Well, Brians done it again. He's pruduced another book in the Redwall series. This one is as good as the others, the has been no drop in quality whatsoever. He's put in plot twists, and more gripping moments than you can wave a stick at. He's been back and looked at the original books, seen whats missing and then written a book to bridge the gap in Salamanderstrongs history. A great book, with hopefully more like it in the mix. Well done Brian, good luck for you're next book.
Rating: Summary: Lord Brocktree is a good book, but not up to standards Review: Lord Brocktree is a great book, but it is not has good as other Redwall books. It seems like Brian Jacques rushed through the book. There was little character development before the fighting started. I was hyped up about this book coming out, but it was a slight dissappointment. It starts out with Lord Stonepaw and his aged hares all living on Salamandastron. As always, they smell a war brewing. Then Salamandastron is attacked by a horde led by a wildcat named Ungatt Trunn. Lord Stonepaw is left dead. Then Lord Brocktree comes into play. He has a vision, like all badgers do, telling him to go to Salamadastron. He finds out about the Blue Hordes, and realizes the Bloodwrath won't help him. While he is traveling, he gathers up and army to go fight Ungatt Trunn...
