Rating: Summary: I laughed, I cried, I wet myself Review: This book was sitting on the shelf at the vet's office (Murphy had sliced his paw open and needed some TLC), and because there was nothing else to read except heartworm brochures, I picked it up. Now I'm picking it up at Amazon. You should, too.
Rating: Summary: Yes,Cynthia, animals do, INDEED, have an afterlife! Review: This book should help any very young child who has lost or is about to lose a pet. Actually it might be a good idea to read while while the pet is still healthy--parents, too! Although there is a lot of imagination (as to how God runs this heaven, dogs sleeping on clouds, etc) in this it is done so well it makes us all feel good.I would like to take exception to that one professional reviewer's opinion re 'faulty theology' that pets might visit here from the other side because they don't have an afterlife. If she thinks that animals don't continue after death she might consult her Bible, which says something quite different. They do. And some do, indeed, 'visit' with their people (a book I recommend below goes into this in detail). Dog Heaven presents this in such a way that will not frighten children at all. It will make them hopeful. Perhaps Cynthia Rylant had this experience, or knows someone who had. Although I take the position that people and their pets alike (as well as animals in general) will share the same Heaven, I can see no harm in a dog or cat heaven premise for young children. Parents can always say the child can visit, or that the animals can come and live in 'people heaven' if they wish to. I would also at this time like to recommend two books: The first is an absolutely heartwarming book, FOR EVERY DOG AN ANGEL; we learn that at birth a puppy's angel comes to stay with it throughout its life. When it is lucky enough to bond with its "forever person" the angel feels great joy. When it is time the "forever dog" passes over its angel that becomes its "angel bridge" to the other side. Sometimes it can cross back for a visit (the writer has had that comforting experience and she handles this idea in such a way as to bring great happiness at the thought to children.). When it is finally our time to cross over, we find our "forever friend" eagerly awaiting us. The second is THE SOUL OF YOUR PET. This book gives solid evidence of animal afterlife; wonderful, credible recountings of interactions of people with pets that have passed on. WIll cause even the most hard-nosed skeptic to re-think his views . Biblically accurate as well
Rating: Summary: This book is very helpful for people who lose a dog. Review: When I read this book to my teacher/mentor, she started crying. It was very touching. It reminded her of all the good times, and it helped her deal with the loss of her dog. This book is not only excellent for children, but adults also.
Rating: Summary: For adults too. Review: "Dog Heaven" was a gift to me when my special dog died. It was simple, beautiful, and wonderful -- just like my dog. Since then, I have gifted this book to others when their special friend died. The book makes for a great acknowledgement of their grief -- much better than a sympathy card.
Rating: Summary: This sweet book is comforting and joyful. Review: I have purchased this book (after it brought me to tears when I discovered it at a school book fair) for at least 6 friends who have lost a beloved dog. Now they are buying it to comfort their friends. It's a treasure! Joanne Turk
Rating: Summary: EXCELLENT BOOK TO GIVE TO ANYONE WHO TRULY LOVED THEIR DOG. Review: This book touches the heart in the child of all of us who have lost a beloved canine pet. It is truly helpful in dealing with the grief that one feels in the loss of their dog. This book is NOT just for children!
Rating: Summary: This isn't just for kids, it's great for anyone. Review: Anyone who has lost a special friend will appriciate this book. It's nicely illustrated and the story is written in a style that is not insulting.
Rating: Summary: Tender and Heartwarming Review: This is a wonderful book to read when a beloved dog has passed away. It gives children, as well as adults, a peaceful and hopeful view of a dog's place in heaven. It eases the pain of the difficulty when losing a pet. The illustrations are very childlike and colorful, making it a happy book, even if it brings a tear to your eye. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! I dedicate this review to "Cody".
Rating: Summary: Lovely, soothing, lyrical, with spectacular use of color. Review: I have a vivid childhood memory of my 3rd-grade Sunday School teacher emphatically explaining to our class that dogs do not go to heaven, because "THEY DON'T HAVE SOULS." (Emphasis mine-- my mother was FURIOUS.) This book has a lovely, soothing, lyrical quality when read aloud; the imagery is eloquent of the special love for and of dogs; the illustrations are a spectacular use of color. My child adores this book, as do I. Wonderful for all ages, and for anyone who can't imagine a Heaven without dogs.
Rating: Summary: Outstanding book for dog lovers! Review: This book was given to me by a very dear friend upon the death of our beloved Golden Retriever, Cinnamon. It is the only thing that brought me comfort after her death.
