Rating: Summary: Suprisingly Good Review: Madonna did a great job with this book. Both my kids and mom loved the book.
Rating: Summary: My 6 year old gives this 2 thumbs up Review: I decided to purchase this book mainly by cover design and illustrations, and maybe a bit of curiousity. I honestly wasn't sure what to expect. I have to say that I was surprised at the length of it. It's longer then I expected. But, it was an enjoyable read for me & my 6 year old daughter. She loved the interjections from the author. The story was cute and had a moral. I'll be buying the next children's book that Madonna writes and possibly all of them.
Rating: Summary: Madonna Has Heart, for all you non-believers Review: Everything Madonna touches is gold. She is sensitive and intelligent, and believe it or not she has more good qualities than bad. This book is a total reflection of that. Madonna is quite a rose herself. I have been a long time fan of the person, not the persona. This is a great book for anyone who is intuitive and loves a life telling kind of story. Whether you like Mo or not, give the book a chance. Otherwise you're the weed, and you don't even know it. The book is a beautiful rose garden of tales in relationships with heartfelt meaning. Mo, you've done it again, and I am so very glad you are expressing yourself through children's books. You are simply wonderful. Get this book!! For yourself and for all the little roses in your life. They will love you for it!
Rating: Summary: Better Illustrated than Written Review: The illustrations caught my eye and made me pick it up, the writing and trite and cliched story made me put it back on the shelf. Madonna is a lot of things but a good writer is not one of them, at least I didn't see it in this book. I will, however, be on the lookout for more books illustrated by Jeffrey Fulvimari. He deserves more credit than the author, and yet his name doesn't appear on the cover, as I believe is traditional with children's books. If you want a story with a moral and not inspired by "don't hate me because I'm beautiful" shampoo commercials, I recommend Shel Silverstein's "The Giving Tree" which will remain a classic long after Madonna's book is a footnote in "Where Are They Now?"
Rating: Summary: Lisa Umina, Christian Author Review: Madonna has made some very big movements in history. I guess from my view as an author that writes to teach children to know and love God, maybe just maybe it's the child that teaches the parent why God is important. This book pulls Madonna from the glamour and glory of being a celebrity into being a good role model as a Mother. I think this light for Madonna is the best one for her to be in.
Rating: Summary: Madonna does not disappoint Review: I am a mothe r of two and just purchased this book for my children. I am very pleased at its contnt and design. My children loved the story and the pictures. I think it is really sad that others condeam everything Madonna does and trust me we have all seen worse. I am a country music fan myself-but consider Madonna to be a legend and icon. And now I have found myself to be a fan. After reading the book I purchased my first Madonna CD. American Life and found it to be touching. I love it. I am not a fan of hip hop, or much pop. Most of it all sounds the same to me. The book is great, the album deserves a ear. I hope others learn to stop the envy and share the love. One can always say Madonna has never done anything except embrase other cultures, and is really a good person where it counts. The only buttons she really has pushed was pro-life, not to condeam others because they live different than you or I. Acceptance and tolerence. We all can learn alot from Madonna. I have and to that congrats.
Rating: Summary: Beautiful and Spectacular Review: "The English Roses", written by Madonna is beautifully written and spectacular. The story is a wonderful story for both children and adults. An excellent story of compassion and true friendship. I love the magical feel to the story, although a very real concept to ponder. Madonna is a great writer. Both a learning and entertaining book for children. Humorous. Illustrations are more than spectacular. A great book for children and adults, especially good for children. Absolutely recomended. Diana: Author of: "Inpirational Wisdom For Love, Beauty, And Richness"; (and) "You Hold The Key To Riches And Happiness".
Rating: Summary: The English Roses Review: I read this book with the necessary scepticism of a hard working freelance children's author. I have to say, that I found the story itself to be well written. (No grammar goof-ups) But, I felt cheated. Who exactly is the protagonist here? Is it Bina, or the other 4 girls? Although the girls learn a lesson, they did not figure it out on their own as every good protagonist should. No siree, they had a fairy godmother(how original) show them the light. This concept would have been great in the 70's(although a little over-done)but todays children want the independence and growth from solving problems on their own. One of the biggest no-no's that I hear from editors today is not to cheat the reader out of the story by having the problem solved by an outside force. (a parent, a teacher, or a fairy godmother!) Why don't these same rules of writing apply to Madonna? I think I'll submit my next picture book to her editor.
Rating: Summary: The English Roses by Madonna Review: I love this book! It is about time we had some books for children like this. There is a great message for children here. I think it important that children are eductaed in this way as it will help elevate the consciousness of our world in future. Madonna has done a great job and I love that she has the guts to use her life as the example....even if it might be indirectly! I can't wait to read the others!! Good Luck Madonna!! Rating: Summary: Very disappointing -- awful plot Review: Madonna, please do not write a book again, especially for children. The girls depicted in this book have beautiful faces (no room for less than beautiful faces?) and are skinny, «anorectical»: this is a bad example for children. The plot is not original in any way either; only the drawings are really well-made and deserve a look. In my humble opinion, I think you should try OTHER children's books, NOT THIS ONE. This book will sell some units just because of media's attention; Madonna's (huge) popularity; and marketing/advertising.
