Rating: Summary: Judge the book not the author Review: I have been a long time Madonna fan. My sister and mother of 3, has not. But I had the book sent to her anyway, knowing that above all, she is fair. My sister thought the book was amazing and ordered copies for her friends. She said it teaches a valuable lesson to people of all ages and she totally commends Madonna for writing this book. So for people who tell you not to buy it because she is "cashing in on motherhood," read the book before you make any judgements. The funny thing is that the book is trying to teach people not to be so judgemental and people who judge this prior to reading it, are doing just that.
Rating: Summary: Madonna Does Good Review: With a distinct narative style ment to be read aloud, this book is a sweet tale of friendship. In the age of Reviving Ophelia, a cautionary tale may be just what we needed.
Rating: Summary: Good Attempt Review: This book is cute and it looks like it resembles Madonna's childhood. It was a nice book to read and would probably make a good impact on young kids.
Rating: Summary: Beautiful Book - Wish there was a version for boys. Review: There are so many inspiring and creative books for children on the market, and this one definitely deserves attention. If the inspiring story of the damaging effects of jealousy and the truly beautiful illustrations are not enough to get you to buy this book for your daughter, sister, aunt, mother, etc., then perhaps the fact that the proceeds go to charities for children will give you that extra nudge. I bought a copy for my neice, and it is already one of her favorites.
Rating: Summary: Madonna's book is a tool to teach kids not to be ignorant. Review: Madonna has done it again! This book was funny and directly to the point. It teaches a great lesson to not judge people based on what is different from you, what they look like, etc. Maybe with children growing up today reading these type of stories, there won't be comments made about "cashing in on motherhood" They might actually learn to accept all people for what they are... INDIVIDUALS, not to be labeled and judged based on fears and misunderstanding. Maybe if everybody learned something from Madonna instead of instantly dismissing her, this world wouldn't be filled with so much HATE.
Rating: Summary: Oh, please Review: I guess we should be proud that our little, Detroit girl has made it big in the business of writing children's fiction. Too bad for Madonna that the best thing about the book are the illustrations (which she had nothing to do with). The book is contrived and awkward (maybe that's a British thing). Madonna said in an interview that her daughter helped her edit the book. It needed to be edited some more. Throughout the book, Madonna has this annoying habit of addressing the reader with little asides that just seem out of place. The characters are unsympathetic, even the ones that are supposed to be sympathetic. And the fairy godmother angle is just trite. 2 stars for the illustrations. No stars for the book.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic...and enjoyable for all ages. Review: Very well written, wonderful story. I'm sure it would be enjoyed by many adults, as well as children of all ages. Highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: magical Review: Good job Madonna.. It isn't any easy job to write children's book where you need to be simple in story telling yet strong with the message, not to mention the challenge to grap attention and interest of a kid. You did it and you did it beautifully. The book is beautifully written, simple, yet powerfull. Proceeds will go to charity- a great thing as she is not doing it for earning more money, and becoming more famous.
Rating: Summary: Not a very good book Review: This book has fallen victim to its hype. Unfortunately what it promises and what it delivers are very different.
Rating: Summary: A great book for anyone Review: This is a very nice story about acceptance. I loved the illustrations and the dialogue. It's also good to note that the proceeds do go to childrens charity. It was an enjoyable book and I am excited about the next one. ;)
