Rating: Summary: The best book ever Review: Have a Hot Time Hades is the first book in the Myth-o-Mania series by Kate McMullan. In the story, Hades gets a book from his book of the month club about Greek myths and finds it all wrong, so he decides to tell the story the way it really happened. In this book, you get to read how Zeus got to be the head of the Greek gods and how Hades ended up as god of the Underworld. Only the story is so funny you won't want to put the book down!

Rating: Summary: One Hot Book Review: Have a Hot Time, Hades! is written by Kate McMullan and it is one of my favorite books. In this book, Hades, God of the underword reads The Big Fat Book of Greek Myths only to find that the book is filled with nonsense. Zeus, Ruler of the Gods has taken at the parts of the myths that he did not like and changed them. In order to correct this, Hades makes his own book with the help of some of the ghostwriters. This is the 1st book in a series and so Hades tells the "true" story of how Zeus cheated at cards in order to became the leader of the Universe. Hades also tells about the first Olymic games, how he and his siblings were freed from their father, Cronos's stomach, how Typhon was defeated, adn how volcanoes came to erupt lava. Have a Hot Time is a wonderful book. It is funny and uses modern language with terms such as HB Olympus, Lay-Z-God, and Po for Poseidon. THe stories that ate told are relayed so well that anyone having a hard time remembering who's who in Greek Mythology will go away with knowlege they will have a hard time forgetting. In the back of the book there is a list of who's who in Greek Mythology and even gives the names used by the Romans. Also included in the back of the book is a Family Tree of the Gods for easy reference of who is related to whom. As I started reading this book I found that I had a hard time putting it down. This book is a good read for people of all ages. Have a Hot Time, Hades! is written in such a way that one can relate to the Gods adn the troubles they are having. The reader gets an insight into the troubles the young Gods have when they first inherit Mount Olympus. Hades is also turned into a lovable character instead of the untouchable King of the Underworld. I cannot wait to read the rest of the books in this series.

Rating: Summary: Hades is having a hot time Review: Have a Hot Time, Hades! By Kate McMullanZeus's version of the myths is wrong. You know the story how Zeus apparently over threw Cronus the Titan and became ruler of the universe? Hogwash. It's about time to set the record straight. For the first time ever, Hades, King of the Underworld, tells the true story behind the myths. This book starts off when Hades and his five other siblings are born. Their Grandfather Uranus told Cronus that one of his six kids will be mightier then him and will over throw him. Cronus was so furious that when his first child Hades was born he swallowed him, and as the other children were born he swallowed the other four. Zeus was the lucky one. Gaia the wife of Cronus bundled a rock in a blanket and Cronus swallowed it. After many years Zeus was grown up and he got his siblings out of the stomach of Cronus. The Gods have to compete with the titans to rule Mt. Olympia. You might know this as the Olympic games. Who wins? Will Hades be respected, as he show's his softer side? You'll have to read it your self. The series includes book two, Phone Home, Persephone, book three, Say Cheese Medusa, and book four, Nice Shot Cupid. I think this book is good for people who like mythology and kids 3rd grade to 9th grade.

Rating: Summary: Say Cheese, Medusa! Review: I love this book!!! In class we read a myth, it must have been Zeus telling it. The gods all have these cool gadgets and a sense of humor. This book is super fun!

Rating: Summary: Great supplement for the traditional tales! Review: I picked up several books in this series when I was looking for a way to make the stories of the star constellations come alive for an 8 year old. What a find! My daughter and I have taken to reading aloud McMullan's version of a story first, then examining the comparable version found in "D'Aulaire's Book of Greek Myths." She gets a big kick out of this, since McMullan's conceit is to tell the traditional story from an entirely different point of view--an alternate take on the same set of events. McMullan's narrator, Hades, calls the compilation of the traditional tales "The Big Fat Book of Greek Myths," claiming that book is the product of Zeus' megalomania and thus always makes him (and his progeny) look good. By reading the Myth-O-Mania version, the reader gets the inside scoop on what *really* happened! McMullan's tales, in and of themselves, are inventively amusing, amplified retellings of the originals. This series is a wonderfully clever way to introduce these classic stories to younger readers. And not just younger readers; you'll finally learn your Greek mythology, too! The pronounciation guides and family trees at the back of the book are a bonus!
Rating: Summary: Cool Book!! Review: I teach 7th grade, and my reading class studies Greek mythology for 9 weeks. I have all 8 books in this series in my room, and I am always reading one of them aloud to my class. The rest are NEVER available on my shelf; they're always checked out! There's usually a waiting list for them and sometimes the kids even hound each other to hurry and get them done so they can read them. These books are a hit with both girls and boys (a rarity), and even my reluctant readers will check these books out! I wish Kate McMullan would write more of them!!
