Rating: Summary: My favorite babysitter Review: My favorite babysitter earned this esteemed title simply because she would always bring Busy Busy World over and read it to me for hours. My parents were amazed--and still laugh--about my demand that they go out so that Beth could come over and read Busy Busy World to me. It was so much more fun to imagine myself in Paris with Pierre the Parisian Policeman--for several hours in a week, I could be a world traveler . A couple years ago when I began babysitting for a family on a regular basis, I went to local bookstores, hoping to buy my favorite childhood book. I was dismayed to find it out of print. I just ordered a copy via Amazon, as a good friend of mine is having her first child soon and I can't think of a better gift. I'd much prefer, however, to have been able to buy a new copy....
Rating: Summary: Bring back Busy Busy World!! Review: Now that my own copy from childhood has come apart at the spine, and both covers need to be reattached, I wish this book were available for sale at a retail-like price. This was my favorite book as a child, and it has become one of my children's favorites. We read it almost every night these days. If my parents hadn't saved it, it would have been lost to them. These are great stories, with wonderful funny illustrations (you have not lived until you've read Good Luck in Rome, complete with pasta-flying, gelato-spilling traffic chaos sound effects, to small children) and the book actually encourages an interest in other countries and cultures. What can we who love this treasure of children's literature do to get a campaign going to get this back on the shelves?
Rating: Summary: I'm devastated. Review: Of all the Richard Scarry books we grew up with, why would this one be out of print? My son and I have been relying on my family's old, taped-up copy, but several pages are missing. (The story about Sergeant Yukon of Canada ends with Smudge the chimney sweep rescuing Frau Wascherwommen's little boy Hans...) Still, it's our very favorite book, and for my son, it's an obsession. My sister-in-law was very impressed when my not-quite-2-year-old said "Israel" and pointed to the right place on the world map! I want to get complete copies for my son and my nephew, but I can't afford the collector's prices. I hope an enlightened publisher brings this book back into print someday!
Rating: Summary: Great Book! Review: Richard Scarry's Busy Busy World was one of my favorite books when I was little. My whole family loved it and we still quote it all the time. Favorite lines I used to repeat when I was little were "I am Taking You to Jail" "Klondike Kid and Tundra Pete are Back in town said Grubstake Moose" "Whrr Clop" "Oh How Beautifully Fatima Danced" and a few others. I highlited them in my copy. Back to basics, this magical book is about occupations of animal charachters from all over the globe. Children can learn wonderful things from the book. But it never has to seem like learning, that's part of the magic. As you read, you will probably feel like you are part of the book yourself. I felt that way too. I bought two copies of Busy, Busy World the last time it was in Print, and gave them as gifts to friends who were having children. I'd buy another million today. Please encourage the publisher to reprint it.--Robert Metz
