Rating: Summary: Great new resource for Network+! Review: I heard a couple of weeks ago that Michael Meyers had a new book coming out for Network+. This was good news to me, since I read and loved his A+ book, and I'm looking at getting my Network+ this year with the new test objectives. So I got my hands on the new Network+ the other day, and I have to say it's great! I haven't made it all the way through (of course) but the introductory chapters filled in the holes in my basic understanding of networking. The explanation of the OSI 7-layer model really made sense! I really feel like I'm going to get a lot out of this book. The writing is interesting, and the drawing and photos really bring this stuff to life. I have a feeling I'll be reading this one twice, but I'm not worried it will put me to sleep. Coming from someone who reads lots of tech books, that's really a compliment!
Rating: Summary: Here's a question: How many IT job ads mention Net+ certs? Review: I just figured I'd ask who's getting Net+ certs since I don't recall seeing any job which asks for those with Net+ certification. Perhaps it's just the in-house people who are required by their department to do so? Because I've been looking through the various job sites and I've yet to see one which lists Net+ as a desired certification. Usually it's MCSE (NT/2000), AS/400, Citrix, Novell, or some other certification that employer X is seeking in candidates. Oh well, carry on.
Rating: Summary: Excelllent Book Review: I just passed my Network+ Exam with an 860 out of 900. This book covers most of the topics I saw in good detail. The only weak points were on CSU/DSUs and ISDN in general.
Rating: Summary: Definitely a worthwhile read!! Review: I just took the test yesterday and passed, first try. This book is well constructed in terms of keeping the user interested. Without saying technology has it's fun, sexy areas and the grueling, mind numbing areas that will bore you to tears no matter how much you love computers - this book balanced that out nicely so that you are not reading 400 pages of sure-fire insomnia cure. Likewise, with the accuracy - I have been working as an admin for a few years now and what I did know matched Mike's knowledge almost perfectly. All in all it is definitely worth your time whether or not you decide to take the test. However, it is sad this book will be out dated after the first quarter of 2005. (The new test comes out.) However, I would definitely buy another book buy Mike Meyers; I have no doubt that the 3rd edition will be just as good.
Rating: Summary: Sufficient material Review: I purchased and read this book from cover to cover in less than 3 weeks. I thought the information was slightly vague and could have been better. After taking the network+ exam, I now know this book is sufficient for passing the exam. I scored a 873 out of 900 possible and have no REAL experience in the networking field. If you want a bullet proof combination, I used Exam Cram 2 by Mike Hardwood along with the Meyers book. I am stressing the fact that all you need is either book. Exam Cram 2 is shorter and more informative, but if you like Meyers' approach, stick with him. The test is not difficult, contrary to some newsgroup posts. Good luck!
Rating: Summary: not too bad but i think there are other books out there Review: i read all those reviews and they are right. The book does not really prepare for the network+ certification. I had some fun reading it. The questions in the book and on the cd are way to easy and really do not cover what is on the real test. I passed the test but only because i had some previous experiences as i took graduate courses in networking. I would say that the whole book is just too much to read. He is good with telling stories and making jokes but i think the book could be cut to a at least to a fourth of its size and would give a more efficient study guide. Maybe its because people that do the Network+ cert are not as educated... i have no idea.
Rating: Summary: read cover to cover, took practice exams on disk, passed! Review: I read this book and took the practice exams over and over and passed the certificastion exam in less than twenty days. I can't argue with results.

Rating: Summary: HAS ABOUT 95% OF WHAT YOU NEED. Review: I think MIke Myers A+ was great, so is this book, but it is not quite enough of what you need. After going through several practice tests, I found that it was missing some info, but not much! Definetly use several practice exams in addition to this book. From what I hear, every Net+ book does not have everything, but I definetly recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: I passed my exam Review: I think this book will help you to pass your exam. The questions on CD that came with this book are to easy. It is better to get questions from other source. All the answers, I can think of, from the exam were found in the book. There are few typo errors found in the book. It is a good idea to read carefully in order to understand the book and know the answers for the exam.
