Summary: Portable and Good Too!
Review: At 8 X 5-1/2 X 1-1/2 this nicely bound volume can take the abuse of being carried around in a briefcase. With 477 pages including a 20-page index you should seldom have to resort to your ten-pound complete technical reference. An on-the-road administrator or consultant might find this to be his most indispensable resource.

This book is one in a series of portable references for system administrators. The book contains the typical step-by-step instructions with frequent screen shots. The typesetting is nicely done, and, like most books from Microsoft Press, the editing has been carefully done.

The author assumes general familarity with a networked Windows, if not NT, environment. It is not a planning or installation book but a daily adminstrator's guide. If your network planning is not complete or if Windows 2000 is not yet installed, you will need other references.

Summary: Not too much of I.T.
Review: Basically has everything starting from users and groups and finishing with DHCP. I definately recommend that book for any junior system administrator out there. When i first looked at the size of that little book i thought that it wouldn't be even worth reading, but when i started reading it i realized that i was definately wrong about it. Good explaination for group policies.
What i like about these books is that they are small and can
easily fit in any bookpack.
(I apologize for any spelling mistakes)

Summary: Microsoft Windows 2000 Administrators Pocket Consultant
Review: Clear. Concise. Informative. Encyclopedic in scope. This book is not designed to teach you Win2K. It is designed to serve as a reference checklist for most common, and not so common procedural tasks that occur on a day-to-day basis.

While I own an ever expanding library on Win2K, I find that this is the book that always resides in my ready bag, so as to be available where I travel. Mr. Stanek has done a marvelous job with this book. I highly recommend it.

Summary: Serves its purpose well.
Review: Don't expect to learn Windows 2000 by reading this book cover to cover. It's not really designed for that. It is better used as a reference guide for commonly performed system tasks. In that regard, it serves its purpose quite nicely providing solid organization and simple advice.

This book serves a definite purpose. It's designed to be the book on the shelf that you use when the inevitable "How Do I Do This?" question pops up. It fulfill this purpose well. What this book is not designed for is to fully explain the features of Windows 2000 and Active Directory. There are other titles that do a much better job of that.

Summary: Small package, A lot of information!
Review: I bought this book about a year ago and have steadily been buying more and more of Mr. Stanek's Pocket Consultants. This book has been a constant companion and I've also used it as a study guide. I passed my MCSE test by the way thanks in no small part to this book. I've put this book that hell in the past year so I found it surprising that the book's cover is still in tact and the pages are holding. The book has rounded corners, a stictched binding, and an extra thick cover for a reason!

I continue to be surprised at how much useful information Mr. Stanek pours into every page. I read something somewhere, might have been a review, that said its like Mr. Stanek starts with one of those heavy duty doorstop books, you know a 1200 page monster, then takes out all the useless filler, fluff, etc to get the book down to a healthy 500 pages. I believe this, the book has never let me down when I was in a crunch.

Summary: 2nd edition even better than first
Review: I have the first edition and got the second edition immediaetly. With the second edition, Stanek has done a great job! This book is well written, easy to follow and concise, yet packed with lot's of useful information and hints and tips for Windows 2000. I consider myself a fairly expert Windows admin, but still learned quite a lot from this book. Like other Windows books that Stanek has written, this one is excellent for either new admins or experienced admins. I whole heartedly recommend this book to everyone.

Summary: Excellent handbook for Exchange admins...
Review: I keep this handy reference in my laptop bag. It's invaluable for Exchange admins, particularly if you're moving from Exchange 5.5 to 2000 you'll have plenty of things to refer to every once in a while.

Summary: An absolute must have
Review: If you are an engineer/sys admin in a W2K environment this will instantly become your dog-eared, coffee stained, finger soiled, locked in your desk when you go home, stroke inducing when you cannot find it best friend. The only thing holding it back is the spine/binding. Not cheaply made but by its very nature takes one heck of a beating and should be bound with industrial strength materials. Buy the book.

It is packed with multiply screen shots to outline steps in just about every proceedure to guide the user in seting up and administrating a W2k network. It is also an excellent study guide for individuals that are attempting to acheive their MCSE in W2K
