Summary: Good Book
Review: The book does assume some technical background, but you were not even close to reading the correct book (or taking the correct test) if you wish to make web pages. I think you were thinking of the i-Net+ certification. It is more related to the Internet than networking concepts. This book does a good job at giving what you need to pass the Network+ exam and to help you get your foot in the door to starting your career.

Summary: Gets the job done!
Review: This book has lots of helpful information about the Network+ exam, however, the book does not cover in detail the true scenario's in a network environment. There were also objectives not covered on the exam that caught me off guard. Someone with at least one year experience could pass the Network+ exam with this book as I did. I guess for the money I would say this is a good study guide for the Network+ exam.

Summary: Excellent Supplement
Review: This book is a great refresher for those with experience, or those who just wish to supplement computer based training. It got me a 793/900 and I only studied for about a week. I would definitely recommend it.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Its Okay
Review: This book is okay, actually it would have been great for the Network+ 1999 Objectives, but its lacking for the 2002 Objectives. Wait for the next revision. It will really help you understand the OSI model and IP addressing, but thats about it.
If it wasnt for my past experience, I might not have passed.

Summary: Good Book
Review: This book was the core study guide I used for passing the Network+ exam. Over a period of about 6 months I read it 3 times cover to cover. I then went through it again about a week before and basically memorized a whole bunch of stuff I figured would be on the exam. You must understand that almost every page in this book has something you'll actually see on the exam. I liked that a lot. Many books have a whole bunch of theory and irrelevant history...who cares! I want a certification. This will get you there, plus you'll take to memory some essential things you'll need to work as a network tech and throughout your career in IT.
The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is because I would have liked to have had more practice questions included on the CD. Of course, I could have purchased more for a fee on their web site...please! Oh well, caveat emptor.

Summary: Very Brief...Not Comprehensive
Review: This was my first venture into the Passport series. The book is quite readable and provides what amounts to a whirlwind tour of most of the objectives of the exam. For vetarans in the field, the book will provide a pretty good refresher, should fill most gaps, and should give you confidence in your own knowledge to pass the exam.

This book most certainly is not for the new tech treading in unfamiliar waters. The book does not treat any area in great detail, and in fact misses more than a half-dozen of the objectives on which the Network+ exam tests. In particular, the book mentions little if anything on the following:
802.2 (LLC)
AppleTalk
POP3/IMAP4
RARP
NTP
VLANs
SOHO Networks (particularly troubleshooting DSL and Cable)
The book itself admits that it is Microsoft-centric because the Network+ exam is that way, but you will get burned by the non-Microsoft questions if you have no other experience or reference. If you are new to the field and are looking to this book as your only resource, it certainly will fool you in thinking you will be prepared to be successful on the Network+ exam. The questions offered in the text are considerably simpler than those you will see on the real exam. The questions offered on the CD are a little closer but still too simple. I strongly suggest additional material (a comprehensive study guide from your favorite publisher, as they are all very good anymore) and a stronger exam prep simulator (...).

The book does the best it can in fewer than 400 pages, but unless you are a network veteran you will need more support to pass the exam.

Summary: Great Book
Review: Took the Net+ exam 3 days ago and received a 780/900 (646 is passing) on the exam. This book covers all the pertinent information on the exam. I read the book twice, in order to absorb all the information; but only a couple of weeks prepping for the test before test day was enough; combined with the practice tests that came with the discounted voucher I purchased off the Total seminars website. I recommend this and the A+ certification passports from Mike Meyers. Some of their other books are outdated and/or inadequate, but these two are perfect if you're willing to memorize the important information that they give you to pass the test.

Summary: you can pass, just know the stuff
Review: You can pass with this book, just make sure you have a pretty good grip on the stuff when you finish. It's a real good book for the exam, but skims over certain things you need to know more for the exam, but that's why they make bigger books too. peace.

Summary: Good Enough to pass the Net+ Test
Review: Your question: Is this small book alone good enough for me to pass the Net+ test?
My Answer: Yes.

I personally never like thick books with lots of "essay" talks. If you only want to pass the Net+ test with the minimum amount of time, this book alone is good enough. I passed the test today with a comfortable mergin but only read this book to prepare.

Net+ is an introduction to networking technologies after all, so don't spend too much time on it; instead, just pass it quick then move on to other exams such as Security+ and Server+. Think of Net+ Exam as Networking 101 - Don't waste too much time of your life! This book will do.
