Rating: Summary: Good example code Review: Personally, if this book would have come out during the ASP.NET beta it would have been more useful to me. We could have all used more examples than we had back then. If you are trying to get a grasp on how data is moved between the data store and the ASP.NET page, this is a good book. For more seasoned ASP.NET developers, you may still find a example or two that makes you think differently about an approach to solving a problem.

Rating: Summary: Introduction to Confusion Review: The book should have been titled "Programming Database Driven Web Applications with ASP.NET." Seeing a table of contents before purchasing this book would have really helped. I'm a Windows C++ programmer, not a database programmer. I just wanted an understanding of what ASP is and how I could use it in my web pages. The author also throws at you ADO, XML, SOAP and the list goes on. I'm confused enough as it is. The book was no help to me.
Rating: Summary: Too many listings, not enough technical Review: This 704 pages book has way too much listings. It does not go deep technically speaking. Topics are pretty interesting but not enough informations on each.In short, I am pretty disapointed. Thick but nothing in there that worth the weight! I will search for another book.
Rating: Summary: Great introduction to most major data access techniques Review: This book covers most of the basic techniques an ASP.NET data access application would utilize. There are a few more advanced techniques, but if you are at that level this book may be a bit simple for you. I especially like the way the authors take a basic example and keep expanding on it with new techniques. This learning pattern mirrors the way a lot of developers learn. I wish I would have had access to a book like this in the spring of 2001 as I had to learn a lot of this stuff by trial and error. If you are just getting started, this book will save you a lot of time in getting up to speed. Plus it is nice that all examples are given in both VB.NET and C#, especially at this stage in the adoption of the .NET platform where developers are still trying to determine which language to learn.
Rating: Summary: The BEST ASP.NET Book Review: This book describes how to use data driven componets that are in real world applications. It even has an appendix in the back describing ASP.NET events and their behavior. Great Book.

Rating: Summary: Kindergarten Database Examples - Great for Beginners Review: This book has easy Database Code samples in VB.net and C#. really easy. Really clear -- great for first timers. Experienced .net eople will find little here that is not available elsewhere. The XML and SOAP chapter is sort of a waste ... Why it has an authentication chapter at all is questionable as well. Both are a waste of space. Appendix A is huge waste of space and not appropriate. The Major Flaw of this book is it lack of depth concerning the Grid Control and hardely any ADO.net code. A book about Data-Driven apps should have much more DataGrid and ADO.net info ... But the examples it does have are excellent for beginners.
Rating: Summary: fantastic Review: This book is fantastic. For me personal this book is one of 2 that are my only reference on paper to learning asp.net. The other is "ASP.Net Unleashed" where unleashed falls over is that it is totally VB, but this book is shown in VB and C#. Unleashed is better with the web form side of things. But that aside both books are complete, and I would not pass this book up as a blob of paper sitting on your computer desk. If you are like me, you always look for more then one book when learning something new. It is always worth while to bounce ideas of more then one writer. I would get both books and you would not need to buy any other books on the topic ASP.NET.
Rating: Summary: the book for beginners! ~wonderful Review: This book is so wonderful that I strongly recommand this book to all of the beginners who want to know asp.net. The authors write about asp.net very clearly in plain English. They use C# and VB.net together, which is better for anyone who understands Java and then goes through asp.net very quickly. If you want to know how to write class in VB.net using asp.net, you should read this book. It is more clear than any other book. I suggest that the authors can write advanced books about asp.net again.
