Rating: 5 stars
Summary: excellent coverage of fundamentals
Review: This book starts at the beginning and covers all the fundamentals of building web pages with ASP.NET.

The examples shown in each chapter are covered with very detailed descriptions of each line of code. This makes it very easy to follow for the beginner but a little boring for the expert.

Myself, being a beginning .net user appreciated this level of code description and explanation. Each example builds on previous code so as you progressed through the book the examples become more robust.

The authors style is like your best frind showing you how to accomplish a task with lots of hand holding. The prose is easy to follow with hints and tips thrown in through out the text.

Summary: More of a beginner book
Review: This book was a little bit boring to read. I think it is more suitable for beginners than for intermediate asp.net developers. Every subject gets (1) theoretically explained (2) shown in an example in both VB.NET and C# code (3) the code gets explained (4) repeated in a summary. A little overkill I think to repeat everything 4 times.
When reading the book's title I was more thinking off some datadriven webapp architecture but unfortunately it doesn't cover architecture, just data-access.
A big part off the book consists of the object reference, witch I never use because of the excellent, more extensive .NET Framework reference on my computer and VS.NET's intellisense.
It covers the basics of Cashing pretty well though.

Summary: Excellent Book
Review: This is one of the very best books I have personally read on .NET. The book is well organized and well written. It offers a comprehensive range of .NET subjects. The only drawback is that it is not very detailed. The code examples are in both VB and C#. (This is a great feature of this book). The code written in this book is actually pretty good, however, some examples may not work (or you may need to make minor changes for them to work)

Final Verdict: This an excellent buy

Summary: A lighter guide than expected
Review: This would be a book I would recommend for novice ASP programmers or even new to web programmers. It was written with a bit fluff here and there greatly lacking concision I have come to demand from technical books. It did serve as a good overview book on ASP.Net and ADO.Net techniques but not much deeper than that.

Summary: Developers - Another Keeper, Great Code Examples
Review: To a serious developer, nothing is more valuable than nicely annotated code examples. This 704-page book is packed with code, with each example in both C# and VB. I bought this book together with ASP.NET: Tips, Tutorials, and Code (also by Mack and Seven plus others). Between the two I have a nice library to draw on for help on my current .NET development project. For example this book had nice examples for storing and handling images as blobs in SQL Server. I built an application to store, display, and edit several thousand construction photos very quickly relying on chapter 13 from this book.

I have found the SAMS Teach Yourself series very useful in spite of their beginner level content. This book is part of a newer series from SAMS (blue spines with glossy photos of the galaxy) that are intended as in-depth resources for professionals. So far the six that I have in my library rank with the very best professional series from Apress and seem a bit beyond the always timely and usually useful WROX books.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Provides nice introductory coverage of ASP.NET/ADO.NET
Review: Want to learn how to leverage ADO.NET to insert, update, delete, and display data in your ASP.NET applications? This book is for you. If you are new to ASP.NET and ADO.NET then you have a lot to learn with the new data display controls and a whole new model as far as data access is concerned. Classic ASP developers looking to quickly learn how to build data driven ASP.NET applications should give this book a read.
