Rating: Summary: Thanks. Now I can charge my customers 'killer' consultancy Review: I first read about this book in the review by Dr Ray Duncan.
(http://www.ercb.com) After this review I bought the book and found it very helpful. It added another dimension to my
way of designing web sites and the book has been a very
'profitable' addition to my library.
Rating: Summary: killersites... killerbook Review: In fact, this is one of the best books I've read recently on the subject.
Siegel have an amazing point of view on how web sites should look like and on how information must be the center of everything. It really helps us to shift our paradigms on how to build web sites.
The book have some structure that reinforces the ideas Siegel wants to show us and the book's web site shows us, in the real word, everything discussed in the book.
Rating: Summary: Changes the HTML paradigm of no control over web design... Review: You can tell that David Siegel once coded type for print long before
WYSIWYG desktop publishing...Although a few of us knew the craft
of code-hacking, we had become so jaded with menu-driven lay-out
that we lacked the drive to do it...thanks to Siegel, his insightful reporting of his own and others' code manipulation
to get what you want in site layout is truly inciteful!!!
This book may not change your life, but it should change
your code and delight those who hit your site!
Rating: Summary: Inspiring....for designers at all levels Review: This book is one of the three books on web site design I regularly reccomend. The concepts
that Seigel uses in this book are inspiring. You'll find yourself re-thinking your
site design after just a few chapters. His web site is also a regular stop of mine, and
the online support that it gives to the book makes this combo exceptional for beginning designers.
Rating: Summary: A Killer Book for "creating killer web sites" Review: Hi future readers,
you are about to enter a whole new world of understanding and enlightenment.
David Siegel has succeeded, where many other writers have failed, in explaining a tough subject in an easy to understand manner.
I have been using GIF(with a HARD G, not a J) and JPeg/MPeg and now .JIF (with a J) ;-) since the formats were invented and suddenly,
with David's Book, I now understand fully how the compression works, how to make them small but efficient, and how to implement them
into great looking Web Pages. (come check some of them out at WwW.Shop1st.com)
He simply explains how a small (say 36k) .GIF could expand into a 3meg image when read in a browser. (It's scary. I and my viewers thank you)
The only reason I didn't give the Book a ten, is I differ a little on some of the coding explanations, but don't we all (-:
AND there is much more in the Book than just HTML coding.
This book is definately a "must have" for anyone, beginners and experts alike, who WANT to have compliments about "their" great Web Pages.
If you are going to do this as a business, as I plan to do, David's Book is a "tool" of the trade - Claim it against Taxes (-:
and the price from here is good too.
I could, as I have already, go on and on praising "Creating Killer Web Sites" as it offers a great deal more than the space allowed here,
but should you still have any doubts, or just plain need to hear more, please send me an EMail and I'll be glad to reply to you.....
Happy Creating. . . . . . -=[ Nickalf the GREY ]=-
Rating: Summary: Killing Web sites Review: A good book with a lot of nice tips and touches. But do think for yourself. The author is not a god
Rating: Summary: Creating Killer Web Sites points to the future of the web Review: This book has two parts. It discusses the theory of what makes
a well-designed web site and the tools and infrastructure designers need to build the sites of the future. My book
emphasizes visual solutions to hard problems, rather than
particular techniques for achieving those solutions. Second, it
teaches you how to make good looking, effective sites for today's browsers. There are also two chapters on designing
with Adobe's PDF. It's 270 pages of full-color graphics. Visit the companion web site (www.killersites.com) before
and after you buy! -- David Siegel
Rating: Summary: A classic book on web design. Review: This book doesn't teach you html. You should already know html before you buy this book. This book teaches you how to design good looking web sites. Personally, I don't think this can be taught. There are many examples of good and bad sites, before and after sites, but the old saying, "Can't teach an old dog new tricks" goes when it comes to art and design. Fortunately, these things are very subjective. What is bad to me, may be good to you. But in the end, there are only so few that really deserve to win a bikini contest.
Rating: Summary: Good For Me, the newbie Review: This book is a great book if you want to learn to design the greatest web sites. However, for professional web designers, this is not a reality, but only a dream, unless you live out in San Fransisco California. David Siegel will show you a lot of awe inspiring work, and tell you a lot of useful things, however his design ideas are unrealistic. Most the time when designing sites for clients, you are dealing with people who hardly have the internet, and want this and that, and all sorts of web design "no-no's". They want the standard, buttons on the left with, banners/headers on top, and very little done with the bottom of the page. Most companies are on a budget and don't set much aside for us web designers. Oh yeah, this book also assumes you have at least several Adobe Products (which most web designers should) I give this book a 3 for 3 reasons (positive). 1) It's very inspiring. 2) It's an easy read, and Siegel presents the information very well. 3) It talks about some important issues. The two reasons I give this book a bad mark are 1) Most the book is not written by David Siegel, but rather, his employees. But, Siegel has some sorta ego problem, so go fig. 2) It's expensive for such a thin book which does not contain that much information. It's expensive because it's printed on what seems like photo realistic paper, and is kinda shiny, and a lot of typographic layout goes into the design of this book. This book is a must for all newbie web-designers who probably live on geocities, angelfire, etc.
