Rating: Summary: Good for newbies Review: If you've done a good bit of servlet programming, this book probably won't help you. If you haven't, it's a boon. I found the book well written and comprehensive, but didn't really learn anything I didn't learn after a few weeks of implementing a large servlet project.
Rating: Summary: One of best written book Review: This is one of the best written technical book I ever owned( and I owned close to 100). Concisely written and presented especially for a new technology like servlet. Whoever with the one star rating for this book surely missed the gem.
Rating: Summary: Best Servlet Book on the Market Review: I read O'Reilly's Exploring Java and then this book, and was able to accomplish my goal - to write JDBC Servlets that access Oracle via the Sun Java Web Server. The JDBC chapter could be expanded to cover stored procedure and result processing just a tad more in depth. But all in all, one of O'Reilly's best books!
Rating: Summary: The best Servlet book you will find Review: Goes in-depth into Servlets, even some of the more obscure areas like inter-servlet communicaton and servlet chaining. Lots of examples. A little too much focus on the Java Web Server as the example platform, but for the most part the examples are easy to transpose into you current work.
Rating: Summary: A recommended reference for all servlets programmers Review: Great Book. I had so much trouble getting it, but is really worth my effort! I would say, any servlets programmer (especially beginners) should have this book by the side always!
Rating: Summary: Frustration galore, Try it dont just read it!!! Review: I read this book and was extremely frustrated, It is by no means a good book, may be not for newbies, the book was passed on to me from someone else who was frustrated with it. It probebly is a good book for established Java programmers to fully grasp the concepts as the experienced Java programmers around me have said, However if you try the examples you will find that you cant get passed chapter 3. I already submitted a bad review of this book which does not appear in the posted reviews I must assume that Amazon.com does not post bad review of this book for one reason or another, and I cannot understand why there are so many good reviews for such a rush to print book, may be the next edition will prove to work better, Although I doubt if I will try it.
Rating: Summary: It's awesome and worth investing in if you're serious. Review: This is the type of servlet reference I have been trying to get a hold of for a long time and it is easy to by books that don't really have the type of content you are looking for. I write servlets on a daily basis as part of my job and most of the time,I need just enough reference to get me going in the right direction. This is an excellent resource to have and most of all, it pretty good reading and will get you started on e-commerce type servlet application development. Yep - this is another excellent OReilly book. Good job Jason Hunt.
Rating: Summary: Outstanding.. Review: This is the only best book about Java Servlet programming. It contains many useful examples; the contents are well formed and writing style is easy to understand. It is the must buy for every single Java and Web developer. Two thumbs up.
Rating: Summary: Emphasis on the practical! Review: If you know Java, and need to get up and running quickly with servlets, this book will get you there. The author seems to have anticipated all of the "Yeah, but how do I..." type of questions by providing examples of various tasks using servlets.... you can get a wealth of information and look like a servlet guru in no time.
Rating: Summary: Must-read for experienced Java programmer Review: If you are a moderately experienced Java programmer and want to find out how to create useful servlets, this is the book for you. Soup to nuts approach with valuable examples had me writing servlets within a day.
