Rating: Summary: Excellent! Review: A brilliant visual safari revealing the digital, virtual and visceral all and everything of the Internet for people who want it clear, quick and colorful.
Rating: Summary: Best book about the Internet! Review: An amazing book that shows you in clear, beautiful illustrations how every part of the Internet works. Whether it's the basic underlying technology like TCP/IP, or how the email, the Web, FTP or other Internet resources work, it's the place to go. It's great for advanced users as well as newbies. I particularly liked the section on safety and security --- I know now how the FBI's Carnivore program works.
Rating: Summary: Visual aids to understand the Internet Review: As an Internet instructor, I have found the book a must for my students. The book has improved since the previous edition by adding new information about the novelties of Internet technology. Moreover, you will find the drawings the most facsinating feature of the book. Take my word as professional in the field, there are stacks of data for you there. useful
Rating: Summary: A long time coming!!! Review: Best book I have read in some time! Should be required reading for every prospective parent. This wonderfull, intelligent beautiful young woman is my new hero!!! I could not think of a better role model for my two young daughters. How appropriate this book was written by a woman of her age and background. She only confirms to me what I have known for so long now. The "60's" was and continues to be the most monumental failure known to man. The sooner we stop the social experimentation and engineering the better we all will be for it. Eagerly await her next work whatever the subject may be.
Rating: Summary: Never have to explain to mom again! Review: Excellent book for mom and dad if they ever ask you how the Internet works. I got lost in the world of colors and BIG arrows and pointing all over the places.
Rating: Summary: simplistic Review: Excellent resource... though sometimes a bit on the simple side. Most of us know how to use email we just may not know how it works. But the illustrations are great. Redundant at times, but I guess hearing something twice reinforces it. Good job. I used this book as an introduction to my independent study class on Internet programming languages.
Rating: Summary: Great book and diagrams Review: Good thorough book explaining the technology and different parts of the Internet. Also, relatively up to date which is impressive with all the changes going on. I will be using this book in my UCLA Extension class, Web Technology Fundamentals.
Rating: Summary: A good visual reference Review: I bought this book ages ago and never understood it. Now, after working on the net, it all makes sense. In general, you will not understand the internet using this book, but it does makes a great prompt if you know it already. I keep it on my desk as work when I get a bit stuck visualising packet transfer etc. If you want to learn about how the internet works, this book is not for you as it covers too much information at one go without linking it together.
Rating: Summary: It covers a lot of areas related to the Internet and WWW. Review: I got this book to read about the Internet and how things worked behind the scenes. It covers everything from basic to advance topics that include protocols, modems, internet connections etc. Concepts are really explained well using illustrations. I would recommend it for both the beginner and the advanced surfer.
