Summary: Simply the best!
Review: If you look for a good book on JDBC 2.0, this is "the" book. The book is complete, in fact, it covers both jdbc1.0 and 2.0. All topics are explained expertly with style and depth, and in a very accesible way so that beginners can understand. All the codes are clearly written to prove all the main points discussed in the book. This book is the best both for learning jdbc and a reference.

Since not all the features in JDBC2.0 have been adopted by vendors, this book will remain as "the" reference for many years to come.

Summary: Consise, Simple, to the point
Review: its not a bad book. Covers everything you need to know to a degree. There are obviously advanced feautres that are not covered here that would probably be more suited for a design pattern book or a more in depth discussion of distributed objects. otherwise, Its pretty decent, if you dont mind the occasional spelling error.

Summary: Over All Good, But~~
Review: Over all, the book is good. It explain the concept precisely and clearly. It is better than other related book available in the market. But there are some week point:
1. It is not for the very bignner. It assume you know something about ODBC setting. In the advanced part, it assume you know what distributed computing, EJB and JNDI is.
2. Some of the example can not be running through. such as the Applet example, and most of the example in server site connection(even though I know how to install EJB)
3. Part II is not worth the money, you can easily get these information in J2EE API online.

Summary: The details that are needed.
Review: The full database connectivity and usage of the Java language is covered. With excellent code samples that appeal to all levels of programmers. I have used it to develope an inhouse delivery system and I am not a professional programmer. Very up to date with coverage of all the latest features of the API and what is due soon. EXCELLENT.

Summary: The best resource for JDBC users
Review: This book contains everything you need to create either simple or very complex database applications written in Java - a short introduction to relational databases and SQL language, very nice and understandable JDBC tutorial, complete reference manual of all JDBC 2.0 classes and methods, and several good examples how to use JDBC features in your applications.

Actually, I would appreciate more detailed description of using distributed transactions, relation between JDBC and JTA and using EJB database components but the main purpose of this book is to cover the most common features of JDBC API - and this goal is definitely fulfilled.

Summary: Recommended...
Review: This book provides a lot of valuable background information and is complementary to the JDBC specification. This is a "must have" if you want to know more about the more complex topics of JDBC like scrollable result sets, datasources, connection pooling, etc.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: An excellent reference for JDBC core & standard extensions
Review: This book provides an excellent tutorial on JDBC 2.0 core features and standard extensions. In particular, the chapters on standard extensions (XA, connection pooling,...) provide unique step-by-step descriptions/examples that offer a top-down view of these features.

Summary: A difficult balance achieved
Review: This is a comprehensive guide to all aspects of JDBC. It pretty much succeeds in being all things to all people. The chapters are verbose and well thought out - as befits a tutorial book - and each one is rounded off with a comprehensive guide to all the relevant JDBC API calls - as you would expect from a reference book.

The example's are a little lightweight but nevertheless they work and they do illustrate the points being made in the text.

I bought this book about a month ago to get me up to speed on Java's take on SQL and now find that, in addition to showing me the Java, I know twice as much about SQL as I did before.

Well recommended.
