Summary: So you want an SUPERIOR beginner's HTML book ?
Review: I was given this book as a gift and promptly returned it. To but it bluntly, this book is subpar with respect to its competition. In its place I purchased Elizabeth Castro's "HTML For The World Wide Web 4". Castro's book is an excellent reference and a great value. Then I came across Joe Burns' "HTML Goodies" and my search ended for a SUPERIOR beginner's book on HTML. Burn's book is a peerless product in terms of content, presentation, value and his uncanny ability to clearly communicate. Don't be fooled by that slick yellow/black cover. Seek out Burns' and Castro's books and at $35.00 for the PAIR you'll be happy, hapy, happy.

Summary: Should be: Creating Web Sites for Dummies
Review: If you are trying to learn HTML, this is a pretty good book. But if you are trying to learn to create your own web site, personal or commercial, then this is a GREAT book! The title is misleading; the book is better on the vagaries of web publishing than it is on the intricacies of markup. But either way, it's easy to understand and fun to read.

Summary: Good info but anti-climatic
Review: The book is concise and full of basic info for the uninitiated. It's a soft and easy read. The only problem with the book is when your on the last few pages, it recommends that you purchase a software package i.e. "FRONT PAGE" or similar package which negates learning HTML in the first place. I could have first purchased the software and saved $23.00 plus tax.

Summary: Too verbose and not a good reference.
Review: The book wastes too many pages on how to convey information, e.g., use headers that lead the reader, use concise language, organize paragraphs in logical sequence. Excuse me, but I thought I am suppose to learn about HTML, not high school English. Also, the book doesn't describe key HTML areas very well: tables, colors of background and selectable text, inserting your own background image. The structure of the book is not obvious so it is hard to use if you need to quickly look up the syntax for an HTML tag. I have purchased another book to act as a reference. As matter of fact, I found many other books in the market that are much better at explaning HTML.

Summary: Good Basic HTML
Review: This book is great if you need to know the basics of HTML. I refer over to it if there is something I am looking to do for my webpage. It is easy to understand, especially if you aren't a technical person. If you want to learn basic HTML, this is a great book to get you started building webpages.
