Rating: Summary: IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN THE BOX! Review: This is a great book to get if you use a Mac. I was new to Mac when I bought the book and found it invaluable in understanding the various parts of the OS. But I have found myself going back to it again and again for detailed, advanced information. In addition, the book is wonderfully printed and designed; a real treat visually (as much as computer books can be a visual treat in any event.) Do yourself a favor and get it!
Rating: Summary: Great Fun! Review: This is the book that makes you glad you splashed out on Mac OS9. If you find you're just using the basics of the Mac OS let David Pogue take you on his magical mystery tour. It's like discovering the joys of the Mac all over again. Better by miles than other manuals. Believe me - I've tried them!
Rating: Summary: An Author's Dream Come True Review: This is the first book in the new Missing Manual series, andI'm ULTRA-proud of it. Amazing things can happen when the author getsto design his own books! I can distill my knowledge of 15 yearswriting about Macs, and 12 years writing for Macworld, into a design that's perfectly suited for the topic. The opportunity to re-invent the computer book let me create a user manual the way Apple should have: With 210 illustrations. With cross-references to PAGE NUMBERS, not "see Chapter 23"! With a 2,300-item index I created myself, by hand. With complete coverage of every Mac OS 9 topic, including "Up To Speed" sidebar boxes for first-time Mac users, plus "Power Users' Clinic" sidebars for advanced Mac fans. As for the Amazon reviewer's notes: Whatever my book's flaws, there is not, in fact, a SINGLE reference to "the pre-Mac and -Windows days when you had to type out a filename" or "286 DOS machines" in the entire book. (I can only imagine that the reviewer confused another book with mine.) OK, so I'm a little excited about this book-somebody hose me down. Meanwhile, thanks for looking this one over! END
