Rating: Summary: Excellent book makes Kornshell scripting easy and fast. Review: This book is an absolute pleasure to use. When I'm working on a scripting task and run into an obstacle, I want to be able to quickly get the information I need and move on. The numerous examples and thorough index make it possible for me to typically get an answer within a couple of minutes. With so many other books I get annoyed having to skip around for 20 or 30 minutes looking for information related to my specific problem. If you're the type who prefers reading concise examples of exactly what you want to do, as opposed to wading through vaguely related sections scattered throughout a book, then this book is your best choice

Rating: Summary: The authority for Kornshell Review: This is the best book I have seen on shell programming. I tried three other books before I found this one. This book is great because it offers examples, shows the output from the examples, and also describes them extremely well. The other books I tried, and did not like are : The Korn Shell: User & Programming Manual - I didn't like it because it lacked information on string handling. It seemed alright though. Unix Shells by Example - Too many examples, if there is such a thing. The author didn't describe what was going on as well as this book does. The layout is confusing too. Unix Shell programmer's interactive workbook - You need to be sitting at a computer to use this one. Wasn't very effective while reading it on the train.
